May I reinforce the comments made by Myra Watts about the demise of the Wella setting lotions. I have used the green and purple bottles for many years to my great satisfaction, and that of my hairdresser who has looked after my hair for 31 years. I am at a loss to find anything comparable. The setting lotion which the staff at a local Superdrug branch recommended as comparable is called 'Stayset' but this left my light silver grey hair with a pinkish tinge. Will Wella please reconsider their decision to cease production of a product highly valued by so many?Sarah Barratt
I have been using this item for several years and I find it superb for my hair which is fine and needs the exta firm hold supplied by this hair set. I have scoured the supermarkets and chemists and they all tell me that this product has suddenly been discontinued. They also say they have been inundated with enquiries from ladies like myself who feel very hard done by. When you find a product which enhances your hair you feel very upset and disappointed when it suddenly disappears from the shelves with no explanation. I have no idea what I shall use now although Superdrug did tell me they are bringing out a hairset called Superstay but I doubt very much that it will have the same qualities as Wella Hair Set Extra Firm Hold. It would be interesting to hear from Wella as to why this product has been discontinued and if they intend to replace it with a similar product as there is nothing else like it on the market
I have very fine dead straight hair and I've always wished for long glamorous curls, in my continuing efforts to get these curls I followed up on one of my mums suggestions- setting lotion! After several attempts to find this the little bottle, superdrug had it tucked away in a corner for a price of £2.99 for a 100ml bottle. The instructions were less then helpfull "apply to towel dry hair, style as normal then brush into place" so I liberally applied this to my hair (heeding the warning the any spills on skins should be washed immediately) and made a huge mess, the bottle only has a tiny opening in the top meaning you have to shake this on to your head. It feels like sticky hair spray when you touch it. Firstly I simply set it rollers and went to watch tv for an hour, when I took the curlers out I was left with lots of tight curls, but my hair stayed as if the bendy curlers were still in, brushing in an attempt to get my hair away from my head resulted in all the curls coming out leaving me with very straight hair again.
So on my second attempt after washing my hair for the third time that day, I applied the setting lotion using less then before and trying to make less of a mess and went to work with my curling irons. And ended the second attempt in tears as huge clumps of my hair came of with the tongs. The combination of heat and the setting lotion had burnt away my hair, leaving me with a very short layer underneath my hair (I always start curling from below) meaning I have to use loads of grips to hide it anytime I want to wear my hair up.
My experience was a bit of a disaster; I'm leaving the setting lotion to the little old ladies from now on!
