Advantages: Does what it's supposed to
Disadvantages: Hard to do your on hair
I bought this kit with the intentions of putting blond streaks in my own hair. It was only after I'd looked thoroughly at the kit that I decided it wasn't a one man job, and I'd need someone else to help, because I wouldn't be able to manage the back.
So the box sat on my shelf for a few months, because I kept forgetting to ask someone, and then when I did it was never a good time for them.
Eventually my son asked if he could get some blond streaks put in during the holidays, so rather than pay hairdresser prices for something I was sure he wouldn't want in the end, I decided to use the kit.
==The Kit ==
In the kit you'll find
* A pair of gloves
* Bleaching agent and reactor
* A brush with a crochet hook end
* A plastic tray
* A plastic hat with pre marked holes.
* Conditioner
== Using the Kit ==
Using the kit is simple enough. Firstly you have to brush the victim's, oops person's hair into its normal style, then gently place the plastic hat on their head and tie the ribbons under the chin. It has to be on reasonably snug for it to work.
Then using the crochet hook end of the brush you have to push it through the hat at the designated areas and pull through a little of the hair. I say a little, but you can actually pull though quite a bit if you really want to. I found the best way was to lie the hook flat against the head and go in from the side, rather than have the hook pointing straight down in a stabbing motion.
Once you have as much or as little hair through the hat as you want, you need to comb the hair to remove any tangles.
Then you need to mix the solution. You use the plastic tray to do this, and use the brush to mix it around. The solution eventually becomes a thin paste, about the same consistency as pre mixed mustard.
Now the fun part, you have to spread it all over the person's head, making sure you thoroughly cover each strand, this means brushing from different directions to get the proper coverage.
The waiting time is about 20 minutes, but this depends on personal choice, the less time you leave it the more orangy the colour, the longer you leave it the whiter it becomes. You can check the colour by wiping a few strands of hair clean to see if its done.
Once you've got your desired colour, all that remains is to wash it off. Firstly rinse off all the solution whilst the hat is still in place. Then remove the hat and carry on rinsing, then condition your hair with the sachet provided.
Simplez!
== My Thoughts ==
The kit is very simple to use when you're using it on someone else. I would imagine though that getting the back of your head done properly by yourself is near on impossible.
The hat is designed very well, it doesn't take much effort to push the hook through the plastic, so there's very little chance of stabbing the person on the receiving end. Unlike some of the kits I used to use as a kid, although that might have just been my sister taking great pleasure inflicting pain!
After 20 minutes the solution produced a nice natural looking blond on medium to dark brown hair, and my son's hair wasn't at ll dry or brittle afterwards, and immediately after using it, his hair was lovely and soft due to the conditioner.
As long as you have someone to help you I'd recommend this product. Why pay salon prices when you can do the same job at home?
