Advantages: Excellent Results, easy to use, leaves hair soft and Silky.
Disadvantages: Need someone to help you with it,as would be very difficult to do yourself.
Having naturally dark hair, I often get tired of the same colour and want something different. This time after a recommendation I decided to go for the blonde streaks effect, nothing drastic but enough to change the appearance of my hair. The brand I decided on was the Wella Hair Streaking Kit, this product produces natural, light blonde highlights and it a lot kinder to hair than some of the other dyes and brands. This to me has to be a deciding factor, as you want your hair to be soft and silky afterwards as oppose to dry and brittle or sticky. I recommend that you get someone else to do this for you, it is made to be possible to do it yourself if needed but I think you would find it extremely difficult to do the back yourself or at least get the strands even, so phone a friend on this one! CONTENTS •¤•¤•¤•¤•¤• ;¤ •1 Gentle Cream Developer •1 Sachet Of Lightening Powder •1 Mixing Tray •1 Applicator Brush with Hook •1 Pair Of Plastic Gloves •1 Conditioning Shampoo •1 Detailed Instruction Leaflet •1 Highlighting Cap CHOOSING THE LOOK •¤•¤•¤•¤•¤• ;¤•¤•¤•¤• ;¤•¤• Before you commence on your streaking adventures it is advisable to have a look at the various effects in the leaflet and choose one that you fancy. All Over Highlights *************** Pull fine strands of hair through every second or third hole in the cap or tiny strands all over, this is the one I chose and gives an overall effect of subtle sun bleached highlights, nothing drastic and they blend in beautifully with your own natural hair colour. Crown Highlights *************** This is best suited for hairstyles with a longer top and short back and sides, depe
nding again on the desired effect wanted, pull strands through roughly where indicated on the leaflet around the middle of the head. Hairline Highlights *************** This will give a soft accent around the face, for this pull strands through every other hole only around the forehead and sides. So now you have chosen your ideal look lets get streaking…………….. METHOD •¤•¤•¤••¤• ¤ 1.Brush your hair, do not wash it must be dry. 2.Pull the highlighting cap over your head and pull down tightly so there is no gap between the cap and your scalp, the down side to this is hope nobody comes round and sees you looking like you are wearing a rain hat or a badly punctured swimming cap, not very flattering believe me. 3.Using the hook provided, pierce the cap and pull through the strands of hair, as many as required and your chosen thickness. 4.At this stage avoid any mirrors in the house and do not answer the doorbell! Sorry but you will look like some genetic experiment that went badly wrong. MIXING •¤•¤•¤•¤• Remember to pop on the plastic gloves before you start this as it contains Hydrogen Peroxide and your skin will not thank you for it otherwise, also put a towel round your neck to protect clothing. 1.Pour the lightening powder into the tray and add the gentle cream developer, DO NOT inhale the powder whilst mixing. 2.Stir until you have a thick paste, and yes the paste is a lovely pastel blue shade but do not be alarmed. 3.Spread immediately over the hair, put each strand on top of another as you do it to hold in place. DEVELOPMENT •¤•¤•¤•¤•¤• ;¤•¤•¤ The timing will vary according to your natural hair colour; if your hair is previously permed or c
olour treated it will have different timings from normal hair. As a guideline light blonde/medium blonde takes 20 – 30 minutes and dark Blonde/or light Brown will take 30 – 40 minutes. The other thing to remember is to do a test strand first if you are unsure, better to be safe than sorry, or green or orange……… Remember to check the hair every 5 minutes or so, the cycle is red – orange- yellow-blonde, so do not be alarmed if you check it and it is a strange colour, it just means its not ready!. Never leave it on more than 50 minutes and believe me this would be long enough for anyone, my hair took around 40 minutes being brown. FINNISHING OFF •¤•¤•¤•¤•¤• ;¤•¤•¤•¤ Once you have reached the correct shade of blonde rinse all the paste off and pull off the plastic cap, a word of warning this can be quite a painful experience, so be warned! Shampoo the hair with the enclosed conditioning shampoo and rinse well and that’s it. THE END PRODUCT •¤•¤•¤•¤•¤• ;¤•¤•¤•¤• ;¤•¤• You will be left with lovely pale blonde highlights and soft silky hair, I was actually amazed at how good a condition it left my hair and has remained that way after numerous other washes. The colour is excellent, no yellowness, very natural looking indeed. This kit is ideal for anyone who fancies a lightener without having to risk becoming a total peroxide blonde, or if you have wondered what you would look like with blonde hair, it really is simple to use and tones in so well with your own colour without the shock factor you sometimes get from changing colours. The plus for doing your own is you can have as many streaks as you want and choose the desired thickness, the result is defiantly as good as you would get from any salon
and at around £5.40 a kit, a lot cheaper too. It does say on the box do not use on hair longer than chin length, but take no notice, mine is a lot longer and I think they add this as it is slightly harder to pull longer hair through the cap but it does work just as well. So if any of you fancy a change, I really would recommend this it is superb. - 22/03/02 I'm not to be let loose with such things - the last time I tried to change my hair colour, I managed to get more stuff on the bathroom floor, shower curtain, t-shirt and towels than I actually did on my hair. My mother wasnt impressed... |

- 22/03/02 Been toying with the idea of streaks, but don't think I should try blonde on black hair - maybe I'd just let it get to the red stage :) |
