Wella High Hair Add Some Body
Advantages: If you know what you're doing you can probably make it work.
Disadvantages: I don't know what I'm doing and couldn't make it work!
I'd like to start this review by saying I never normally use 'products' in my hair. The most it gets is shampoo, sometimes conditioner, and the very occasional hot oil treatment. So, for me to use a product of this nature is really unusual.
So, having said all this why on earth would I be using something like this and reviewing it. Well quite simply, a friend of mine who got married 20 yrs ago had a blessing recently, and those of us who were part of the wedding ceremony were invited to be part of the blessing ceremony. Because of this, I obviously wanted something a bit more special looks wise than my normal throw a brush through my hair and tie it back with a scrunchie look.
Wella claim that this product is designed to help you add shape and protection when you're blow drying your hair, and it was the product recommended to me by my hairdresser, it was what she used on my hair and showed me how to use to re-create the same look at home after washing.
The bottle is plastic, has a spray nozzle bit at the top, and contains 200ml of this liquid. To be honest it looks pretty uninspiring, but what the heck, the hairdresser did wonders with it and assured me so could I (Yeah right!....)
So I've paid my money (around £7 ouch!) and here's me, at home, ready to give this a go. I've washed my hair, I'm ready to blow dry it as shown by the hairdresser, so I spray (well spritz is a better word for what happens to be honest) at the roots, work it through my damp hair, and then blow dry curling my hair round the brush as I do so to try and re-create the look the hairdresser gave me.
Hmmm... well I have to say the effect when I did it wasn't really great. Yes it added some volume initially, but it didn't really last, and it certainly didn't leave me with a masterpiece of a hair do. Maybe it's partly because I'm crap at this sort of thing, but I really didn't find this to be very effective, and it didn't leave me feeling gorgeous the way I did when I came out of the hairdressers. My hair was certainly shiny though, and looked well conditioned, but the following day it looked really limp and in need of washing, and although the smell which was gently floral to begin with wasn't nasty, it did still smell a bit chemical to me. I still can't work out how the hairdresser managed it if this is what she used because my hair really did have great volume when she did it.
In the end, I asked a friend whose done hairdressing in the past to come and do my hair for me on the day of the blessing, and it did look good. He didn't use this product however, and I have to say I've not used it since, and gave the bottle away to someone in amongst some other bits and pieces on freecycle. I get the feeling that this kind of fancy styling isn't for me somehow.
Overall, I'd say this product isn't for me. I'm sure there are people out there who are now laughing at my ineptitude, and I'm glad to have given you a giggle, but I shall be sticking to simpler styles that don't need products from here on I think, and calling on a professional when I want something fancy.
Summary: A hair product that doesn't really do what I wanted it to.
