Advantages: Feels light in the hair, non-greasy, anti-frizz product which works.
Disadvantages: Price
I have to admit that I am one of those people who possess no hairdressing skills whatsoever. Whenever I try to blow-dry my hair in an attempt to recreate that "just left the salon look", I fail miserably and my hair always ends up untamed and frizzy. It is because of this severe lack in hairdressing skills that I am pathetically dependent on my straighteners to produce any kind of recognizable style and I have become in the habit of ritually abusing my hair with temperatures of 220°C every day.
Most of the products I have bought in the past designed to smooth and protect my hair from such heat abuse have left my hair feeling greasy or sticky, but on a recent visit to a different salon, the hairdresser recommended the Wella High Hair Flat Iron Spray priced at £8.99 for a 200ml bottle. Now the cynic and cheapskate in me thought, she must be getting commission to push this stuff, but considering she had just made a good job of the cut, I pushed the boat out and bought a bottle.
The bottle itself is light blue in colour and quite small and stubby with a push pump dispenser. It is comfortable to hold and doesn't slip out of your hand when you push the pump because the neck of the plastic bottle is rubberised to help you grip.
The directions say to wash and dry your hair as normal, then shake the bottle well to mix the two phases of the product, and finally spray it evenly through the hair, section by section before applying the straigteners.
The two-phase styling lotion spray is designed to be used with straightening irons because the oil gives your hair protection from the heat and the light hold component helps to maintain the straightened effect until the next shampoo. The spray also has anti-frizz properties to help protect the style from the effects of humidity.
The product dispenses well in an even spray and quickly disperses through the hair. It smells a lot like hairspray and has the lubricating feel of hair serum, but it is not greasy, in fact it feels quite light in your hair. After straightening, my hair did look healthily shiny and a lot less frizzy than normal. The bottle says that the spray strengthens and protects with pro vitamin B5 and UV filter and I must admit after repeated use, my hair does appear silkier and less flyaway.
In my opinion, this is a good product, which does work and gives the same overall effect as using a combination of straightening cream and serum without that heavy oily feel. Unfortunately, I have only ever seen it for sale in hairdressing salons and at £8.99 for a 200ml bottle it is a little on the expensive side - if anyone knows anywhere I can get it cheaper I would appreciate a message.
Summary: Good product, just a bit too expensive.
