Advantages: It works, it smells lovely!

Disadvantages: None for me!

My 23 month old twin boys' hair was growing wild and to be honest I begrudge paying the £15 price tag that comes with both their haircuts every one to two weeks as they look a right scruffy pair when their locks become even the tiniest bit too lengthy. It was the other week I decided to purchase a set of clippers to shave it all off, but I didn't want them looking rough with a bald head at their tender age so I went on the hunt for a decent gel that would spike the leftover hair up slightly and make them look a little trendy.

Boots is where I headed as I'm saving advantage card points like crazy, and I popped straight over to the mens haircare aisle! A vast array of gel and hair products met my eyes and I really didn't know where to start looking first. Luckily for me though Wella Shockwaves range comes in an eyecatching deep red packaging and it was there my eyes were drawn to!

Wella shockwaves range offer a variety of hair products for men, including their gels. There were a few to choose from but I picked up the strong, wet look gel. Obviously you'd pick up whatever you feel would benefit your type of hair the most.

Wella Shockwaves Strong Wet Look Gel comes in a 200ml deep red, upside down tube. The front of the tube tells us exactly what we need to know without overflowing us with info, this includes the brand, the range, the 'type of gel' which in this case is Strong, Wet Look Gel - what the aim of the gel is which for this tube is a 'Long Lasting Hold with a Wet Effect. Underneath the brief description there is a 'hold' chart indigating the strength of the hold of the gel - four boxes are provided, if all four are coloured in then you know that it is an extremely strong gel, if none of the boxes are coloured in it's obviously not worth buying lol - this gel has three coloured boxes letting me know that this is considerably strong and should be a decent product.

The back of the tube provides us with a little more information about the gel as well as informing us about the aims of this particular gel. The strong, wet look gel has a strong hold formula that shapes and defines your style with a wet effect. You simply need to work it into yout hair to create your own style then leave it to dry naturally. It tells us that the gel doesnt leave your hair sticky and it washes out easily too.

The gel itself is a clear, gel/jelly like substance, not too thick that it's hard to control yet not too thin that it's runny either, it has the perfect consistency to rub amongst your fingers and apply to your hair comfortably. The gel doesn't have a strong smell to it but the smell it does have is very pleasant quite a sweet, fruity sort of scent - nothing feminine though don't worry boys!

Rubbing a little into my fingers, although it is transparent I can see it on my fingers clearly so that I am able to see where it is going on my twins hair. Just a little is needed on their fine and short hair to create little spikes and it literally takes me seconds to swipe my gel smothered fingers through. It styled their hair almost instantly but didn't harden straightaway allowing me enough to time to have a little play if I wanted to and create a style I wanted. Soon after styling though it quickly hardened and left them with trendy and cute spikey hair do's that didn't look thick with gunk instead it looked smart and suited them well. Touching their hair afterwards their hair was hard where the gel had been applied but not overly so, it did actually still feel like hair. The tube was right in claiming it doesn't make the hair sticky as there were no sticky feelings to their hair do's at all and they could touch their hair without me having to wipe their hands every two seconds, as they hate any strange feelings on their hands. The hold of the gel is fantastic and lasts them all day even with them playing with their hair now and then or just being boys generally and messing about. Towards the very end of the day though it does begin to lose it's hold and white bits do appear but nothing major to worry about. This of course wouldn't happen to men as they don't stand fiddling with their hair every two seconds or having constant boxing matches with their twin brothers, or do they? It also washes out within seconds leaving no trace of gel, which is handy if anything goes wrong with your styling etc.

I have to admit for just over £2 for the tube, which has lasted me now for a good 2 months and that's with using it most days I am very impressed. It holds my boys hair perfectly and creates cool styles that they seem to be happy with. I'd recommend the gel to anybody who enjoys creating different looks with their hair and wants it to stay that way, especially if they like the whole 'wet look' too!

Summary: A really good product that does the job it's meant to!
