      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Give firm hold, nice smell, easy to brush and wash from hair.

I like to use hairspray on my hair to hold it in place when I wear it up or when I tie it back in a hair band. The sides of my hair sometimes fall onto my face and irritates me a little, so hairspray just holds it back for the style I am wearing that day. I do like to experiment with my hair styles because now I have long hair I am able to style it in many styles. This hairspray comes in a can and has a good sized nozzle at the top of the can which I find really easy to press to release the spray onto my hair. It sprays a nice even mist of which is quite fine. It isn't a heavy spray and it gently coats my hair really well without having to spray a lot onto the hair. It has a mild perfume fragrance to it and this one isn't a strong scent like some other brands which have quite a lot of fragrance to them. This one is quite a subtle scent and the scent doesn't last long compared to other well known brands, but it isn't a problem I am unhappy about as long as the product works well for a good hold that is all that really matters to me. I only have to give my hair a quick spray over the parts of my hair I need to hold in place. This spray dries really quickly and in around 30 seconds or so. It doesn't dry sticky or tacky on the hair or make my hair look like I am wearing hairspray. It gives a really natural look to my blonde hair and doesn't give the appearance of the hair looking all stiff and hard. When I wear my hair down and pop my Velcro rollers in my hair, I tend to just spray over the hair curled around the rollers and when it comes to taking the rollers from my hair, I find I can easily just pull them from my hair without the hair tangling etc. Means my hair isn't damaged in any way but the spray just helps my hair curly from wearing the rollers for around a hour or so. My hair still has body and when I run my fingers through my hair, it does feel soft and feels really nice but with a good hold of the curls. It is really easy to wash from the hair, it just washes from the hair perfectly. I always like to brush my hair before I wash it and when I brush it after using this hairspray the brush just glides through my hair without the brush getting all tangled or my hair feeling to rough etc. Doesn't dry out my hair and just gives it a lot of flexibility and a natural bounce. This spray is a firm hold and does give a good firm hold and holds a style into place perfectly and in the way I expect a branded hairspray to hold hair. But it isn't a super firm hold and if you are looking to buying one which can hold a style firmer and have a more stronger hold, this one may not be for you and you may need a maximum hold hairspray. But if you just want a firm hold of which the hair can still flow naturally and still have some bounce, then this one would be a perfect one to buy. I really like this hairspray, it works a treat for just holding my hair in place and it lasts most of the day without the need for topping up and the results are perfect for the way I style my long hair. It costs £2.89 for a 400ml can and I think it is a lot of hairspray for this price and good value for the money. I think the quality is really good and I don't think you would be disappointed with the results for holding your hair in place. I do think this one would also be suitable for men to wear too, some men do like to wear hairspray sometimes if they have some of their hair sticking up and they want to tame it a little. I think the fragrance isn't too strong for a male and it would hardly be noticeable on their hair. Also appears on Ciao under my username pinky50. I give this hairspray 5 stars. Thank you for reading my review and I hope it has been of some help.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      A great daily hair spray

In need of a new hairspray recently, I turned to my local Wilkinsons store to try and find a new can. I have recently had my hair cut from just below my shoulders to chin length, and although I love my new 'do' I like putting my hair up during the day when I am at work. The length of my hair now being an issue with strands of hair falling out of my short ponytail I figured that a light misting of hairspray each morning would keep it in place whilst also keeping it looking neat and tidy. I have in the past used L'Oreal hairspray but wanting a change, and also seeing that the Wella Silvikrin hairspray was on special offer, I bought a can to try out at home. The can I opted for is the Wella Silvikrin Firm Hold Hairspray and this hair spray is given a number three rating out of four for its holding properties. The packaging is not the most exciting to look at being a metallic green in colour with a green lid and white text indicating that the product is made by Silvikrin. A yellow banner across the body of the hair spray is the only indication that this product is for firm hold. I have seen this hairspray in three different size options and these are 75ml, 250ml and 400ml and each size is packaged in the same colour way. Being that I hadn't used this hairspray before I opted for the 75ml can and paid just £1 for the privilege however a look around reveals that the larger 400ml can an currently be bought in Boots for £2.89. I was keen to try out my new buy when I got home and therefore went to work putting up my hair and coating it in a liberal mist of hairspray. The product sprays easily out of the nozzle when pressed and I generally find that a light press on the nozzle gives a sufficient coating for my medium thickness hair in about five seconds. The thing that immediately struck me about this hairspray is the lack of smell when sprayed which I found a bonus when compared with other more potent hairsprays. The smell is light and only just detectable when it is applied to the hair, and this is a feature I love when I have just washed my hair as it doesn't loose its shampooed smell. The hair spray settles onto the hair and upon drying creates a slightly stiff feel to the hair which although not visible to the naked eye is definitely noticeable when I touch my hair during the day. Now any hair product is going to get a good trial on my hair as I am out of the house all day and my job usually involves a fair amount of going in and out of the office during the day. In my opinion this hairspray is great at holding my hair in place and will easily hold it there for the duration of the day if I don't venture outside much. However, having gone out and about yesterday in the cold and windy weather I did notice that I had a fair few strands of hair which had come out of place when I returned to the office and that the stiff feel to my hair had gone. Therefore although this is a great product for being inside it does struggle slightly with harsher weather. As a result of my trial I would have to give this hairspray four stars out of five and it does come recommended. This product is great for hair like mine of a medium thickness and as it does not smell too strongly nor make my hair completely rigid. Additionally the value price of this product means that I can justify using it daily without any big expense. However, this hair spray is not that great in windier weather and for that it does lose one star. I hope this review has been of some help and thanks for reading! x

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Good general hairspray that keeps my fine locks in place

===Why I Bought This=== I have very fne hair, and although I do not use hairspray every day if I am going out anywhere special I always use a quick spray or two to help hold everything in place and to stop it flopping and looking flat. ===The Brand=== Wella has been pioneering hair care products since the late 19th century. The firm began in Germany and took the name 'Wella' from the German for wave. ===The Product=== 300ml steel aerosal spray can. Wella Silvikrin Firm Hold Hairspray. 'Up to 24 hour hold'. Press top. 'Developed by hair experts to deliver reliable hold and control at the same time your hair stays flexibe, soft to touch and natural looking.' Suitabe for: *Normal or medium texture hair * If you want extra strong reliable control and manageability while maintaining flexibility. Brushes out easily and adds shine. To use - hold 20-30cms from hair and spray evenly while protecting eyes. For best results use Silvikrin Firm Hold Mousse to create your style. Contains no CFCs. ===Cautions=== * FLAMMABLE * Pressurised container. * Protect from sunlight and heat. * Do not spray near flames. * No smoking. * Keep away from eyes. * Keep away from children. * Do not inhale. * Use in well ventilated room. Solvent abuse can kill instantly. ===Cost=== I paid £1.99 quite a while ago at our local chemist. Currently Tesco stock the 400 ml (£2.78) and 250 ml (£2.20) sizes. ===My Opinion=== Well I have never really liked hairspray - primarily because it always stinks - but having fine flyaway hair it is a necessity on certain occasions, so I always try and have a can at home. Normally I do not like aerosols but with hairspray I make an exception. I do not like using it and try and spray it outside or do it quickly while holding my breath and rush from the room. I also always cover my closed eyes with a tissue. Regarding the smell, this one does not smell as badly as many I have tried - not paricularly nice, but not horrid, which is all I think you can expect from hairspray. Also the smell does not linger, which is a bonus - so after a few minutes you do not smell as if you have used hairspray at all. It goes on in a good fine spray - I usually only give a few quick squirts to hold the front of my hair in place as I do not want to cover my entire head with it. I just want the front section to be kept in place a litle - and this hairspray does the job well. With having very fine hair is tends to just look lank otherwise and I do use a setting lotion first - though I have not tried the Silvikrin Mousse recommended on the can. The hairspray does comb out well and even when used you hair is not stiff and set as it can do with very firm hold sprays. It does keep it in place without being a solid helmet, and as I have used setting lotion as well it does the job efficiently - even into the next day or until I wash it. For me this is a good basic hairspray that does the job and will comb out - which is all I really need. It is a well known and trusted hair care brand. ===Star Rating=== 5 stars. ===Would I Recommend?=== Yes. ===Website=== www.wella.co.uk ===Full Ingredients=== Alcohol Denat Butane Propane Isobutane Octylacrylamide/Acrylates/Butylaminoethyl Methacrylate Copolymer Aqua Aminoethyl Propanol PEG-12 Dimethicone Parfum Linalool Triethyl Citrate Benzyl Salicylate Butylphenyl Methylpropional Limonene Hexyl Cinnamal Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone Geraniol Citronellol

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Firm hold for your hair

I have really thick, really long hair, so I need a hairspray that is strong enough to hold my hair up at the roots and curl it under at the ends and this guy des the trick. ~~~ Reasons for buying ~~~ I am really quite careless about which hairspray I use, as long as it does the trick it doesn't really matter to me. However, I do tend to stick with the Silvikrin firm hold hairspray because it's strong and relyable, but it also brushes out easily and does not leave my hair looking or feeling sticky or funky in any way. As I have said, I have long, thick hair. My hair is kind of heavy, shiny and swingy, which is great if you're going for the sleek, straight look, but sometimes I just want a big, bouffant do! That's where this hairspray works a treat. Also, my hair is blonde and some sprays seem to dull the colour a little bit but this one doesn't... if you're careful. ~~~ Packaging ~~~ This Silvikrin comes in the trademark bottle green tin. Each different strength comes with a different coloured flash across the front. There are 4 strengths - natural hold, flexible hold, firm hold and maximum hold. This one, the firm hold, has a bright yellow flash on the front. The maximum hold one which is stronger again, comes with a fuschia pink flash on the front. You can get this hairspray in 3 different sizes - 400ml, 250ml and 75ml. I usually get the 400ml version as it work out better value at about £4. ~~~ Using the product ~~~ Silvikrin Firm Hold is a strong hairspray which can be used to achieve a variety of styles. I often spray a small amount into the roots of my hair before blowdrying to give me extra volume. It works really well and does not make my hair sticky or greasy.Nor does it seem to dry my hair out which is good! I have also found this hairspray to be really effective in holding curls in place. I simply curl my hair using the straighteners and then spray on lots of this hairspray. The style then lasts me all evening. Similarly I put my hair up in a big bun (I still maintain I did my hair like this waaay before Adele) and because my hair is so thick, some hairsprays don't hold it well, however this one keeps my bun beautifully in place all day. Basically this hairspray is a great all rounder which can be used for neat, tidy, working hair and also for messy, bouncy, sassy old going out hair. One drawback for this product is the smell, however, no hairspray really smells nice. The smell is quite strong but not unbearable as a little of this goes a long way. A large, 400ml bottle lasts me several months with frequent use. ~~~ Conclusion ~~~ This is definately a good quality, good value hairspray which is versatile enough to be used in a variety of situations. I would say that if you have quite fine hair then I would go for a lighter spray as this one is very firm hold and may make finer hair kind of... crispy? But for those of us with thick hair and loads of it, this stuff is great for taming the mane and also for making a statement!

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

It makes my hair look so natural

I am always looking around for a good hairspray and then I found Wella Silvikrin firm hold hairspray. It was on special offer so I went out and brought it to try. The size was 400ml and it is in a green background with clear white writing of the name Silvikrin so it is easy to find on a shelf in a shop. Further down on the container there is a yellow background with the word hairspray written a little smaller and in green. To use the spray you have to spray the hair by holding the can about 20-30cm away from the hair making sure that it covers the hair evenly. For an extra hair volume and hold you can spray straight into the roots with your head down while you are spraying. It is also provides UV PROCTECTION so ideal in the warmer weather. The smell is ok and pleasant. So I am won over by this product as it is easy to use and it holds my hair and it does look natural at the same time. The cost is around £2.50 400ml size I got mine on a special deal so it is always a good idea to look around to get a good price. Also they are in different sizes as well get the size that suits you.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Not recommended

I've used Wella Silvikrin Natural Hold hairspray for a long time now but recently when trying to replace my empty can of this I couldn't find it in the supermarket so I bought this Firm Hold version instead. I wasn't anticipating there being a huge difference between the two as lots of brands seem to have very little difference between various levels of hold but there really is a huge difference! I don't have an elaborate hairstyle, my hair is long and thick and wavy and behaves very well with the exception of sometimes I get flyaway hair and my long fringe needs a spritz of hairspray to keep it off my eyes. So I don't use much hairspray and actually very rarely use any other hair products. The reason I like Silvikrin is because it doesn't smell really bad so it doesn't set my asthma off, unlike lots of other brands. This 24 Hour Firm Hold spray obviously claims to keep hair in style for 24 hours and it also claims to keep your style flexible, not to dry out hair, no stickiness, UV protection and to brush out easily. I actually think the only claim that's true there is that it will keep hair where you want it for a very lengthy time. I found this really made my hair sticky, it also leaves behind a huge amount of residue even after brushing and as for flexible, if you call having crispy hair flexible then that claim is true. I really don't like hairspray that leaves the hair feeling crispy and if it feels crispy it usually looks it too and this hairspray is guilty of making hair look boardy. Not a great look for any style unless you're aiming for the wet look. The firm hold smells fine and although it does still smell of chemicals it isn't overpowering. It also clears from the area you've sprayed it quickly and completely so that's a plus. The can has all the usual warnings about it being highly flammable, not bursting the pressurised container, not putting it anywhere that exceeds 50 degrees (where would that be other than the oven?), do not spray on a naked flame and don't smoke near the spray. Also to keep out of the reach of children, use in a ventilated area, avoid inhaling the product and try to resist the temptation to spray it into your eyes. Hairspray is a dangerous business apparently! I paid about £2 for my 250ml cannister which would last me ages if I continued to use it but I won't, I'll be switching back to the natural version as soon as I find some. Overall this does last a long time and if your hairstyle is elaborate and you're not bothered about the wet look this will give you this is a product for you. If you don't want sticky, boardy hair that feels full of residue even after brushing I'd recommend avoiding this. Just a 2 star rating from me I'm afraid.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        would not recommend

Im always on the look out for a hair spray that will keep my hair in place, so when i saw Wella silvikrin 24 hour firm hold hairspray 200ml on a 3 for £5 offer i thought it would be worth giving it a try. Wella promises to keep hair in place with a firm hold, non stick formula that lasts for up to 24 hours it also promises to keep your hair soft and flexible so when your done you can brush the hair spray out. On Wellas scale of hold which is between 1 and 4 it comes under number 3 (firm hold) THE HAIRSPRAY: I have curly hair however the curls at my roots are quite small and flat meaning theirs never enough volume on the top of my head, so to add some extra volume i tend to curl the top of my hair with a pair of curlers and then hair spray it to keep it in place however iv noticed alot of hairsprays wear off after a couple hours which leaves me back at square one so i decided to give this hairspray a try as it said 24 hour hold. I curled my roots as normal and then sprayed the hairspray in to my hair holding the can 30 cm from my head ( as it says to do on the can), its quite a thin mist that comes out of the can and has a pleasant smell to it. After i had sprayed my hair i felt it and it felt quite wet/sticky which made some of the curls i done fall out of my hair, after a few minutes of waiting i felt my hair again and it was rock hard and crunchy it also had that very obvious "Hello Im wearing a ton load of hairspray on my hair" look. I then decided the best thing would be to brush it out of my hair and try again (thinking I'd sprayed my hair wrong) it says on the can brushes out easily, it actually really hurt my hair brushing it out as my hair was very sticky. Once i had finally manged to brush it out i decided to give it another shot, once again my hair went rock hard and within a few hours the curls i had done were starting to loosen, so it didn't do a great job at holding them. I never thought i would say this but this hair spray has to much hold!!

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        an excellent buy

Having thin hair has always been a problem for me as I have short hair but like to volumise it, however this has always been difficult. Using "Wella Silvikrin hairspray has made a massive difference. I can leave the house with my hair as big as I want and still return later in the day with the same volume. The best thing about this product is unlike most hairsprays it doesn't leave your hair in a tangled, sticky mess. You can use large amounts of this product and your hair still looks and feels natural. Also for such a good product it is relatively cheap, which is very important for me as I'm a student on a very low budget. It usually prices at around £3.60, however it is very rare it's not on offer. I've been using this product for about little under a year now and whenever I need to buy it, it's usually reduced to £2.00 in Asda. The product is also very efficient. For my required volume, which is a lot for someone who is not a teenager in the eighties, I use very little during my everyday use. Therefore bottles can last me for at least a month no problem. Another advantage of this product over similar ones is it can tackle a wide variety of weather conditions: sunshine, wind and for brief periods of rain and snow. Of course your hair will never be perfect after being out in the rain but volume will still hold to a reasonable level even when the weather is bad, however I would still pack your umbrella just in case. The Final praise I have for this product is it comes in a variety of strengths (1, 2, 3 or 4) to match your required hold. Overall I would highly recommend using this product as I haven't changed hairspray since first choosing "Wella Silvikrin" and I've never had a bad hair day since.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Cant find a fault with it

There are four different strenths of this hairspray and i normally use either number 3 which has a yellow stripe like the picture above or number 4 which has a pink stripe. I personally dont find too much of a difference between them and tend to just pick up which ever one i find in the cheapest shop. The tin i am currently using is 250ml and is a nice slimline size which you could take out in a large handbag as it isnt heavy. It also comes in a larger size, think its about 400ml, a 75ml, and also a tiny version small enough to fit into a tiny clutch bag which is great for taking on a nite out. Boots have the 250ml size for £2.19 which i think is quite a good price but i have seen it a bit cheaper in Bodycare and Semi Chem as they often have good offers on. However i found it was closer to £3 the last time i seen it in Tesco so definately have a look about before you buy. One of the great things about this hairspray is that even after having my hair tied back all day with a good few sprays on it i can still easily brush it out. It doesnt leave any white flaky marks on my hair like some hairsprays do and i can easily brush it out without getting knots in my hair. It also doesnt leave my hair looking solid and really caked or sticky feeling in hairspray even when i have my hair in a style that needs a lot of hold and i have sprayed a lot. The spray comes out easily and gives a good wide spray so you dont need to move the can around too much unlike cheaper brands where the spray can be quite drizzly. Even when i use thing when my hair is down and i have this on, my hair still has a lot of movement in it but still keeps my flyaway hairs tame. Also the smell is quite nice, not to overpowering but i find it to be nice and fresh and not one of those hairspray smells that have you choking and having a horrible taste stuck in your mouth after spraying. I have heard a lot of good things about other brands but i think i will be sticking with this and i really cant find any faults with it.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        A disappointment.

I am usually a fan of Elnett hairspray but I saw this on offer at Boots for £2.00 (price usually £2.83) and as it was a 400ml bigger pack I decided to give it a go. These hairsprays come in four types. This one was firm hold type 3. The first problem I encountered with this product was when I sprayed the spray kept going even after I had let go (but this was probably just a dud can) but I wasn't off to a good start. The smell is quite strong but quite pleasant. However, the spray goes on very wet and takes a good 30 seconds or so to dry properly. It does hold your hair in place but I felt it took the shine off of my hair a little bit and weighed it down. Also hair felt slightly crunchy to the touch once it was dry and it was difficult to run your fingers through it so although it claims to keep your hair flexible I found this not to be the case at all. It was fairly easy to brush out and it does provide UV protection for your hair but I was very disappointed with its performance and would not buy it again. Thanks for reading. x also on ciao under ryanellaxx

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

Give it a go - its brilliant!

I had read that this Wella Silvikrin 24 Hour Firm Hold Hairspray had won an award in 2008 from Prima in the Beauty Awards for the best value product, so when my Tresemme hairspray ran out, I decided to give this one a go. I don't use hairspray very often and so this is only the third brand that I have used. Silvikrin claim to be the UK's No1 Hairspray and can certainly claim that they are my No1 hairspray! I bought my hairspray from Tesco as it was on an offer, although I believe a 400ml is £2.80ish, a 250ml is £2ish and a handbag sized, 75ml is about £1.20. The hairspray is widely available. The hairspray is easy to spot on the shelf. The main colour is green, with a gold strip of colour. There are a few different types of hold that are available. These are: Maximum Hold - for ultimate control for hard to manage or structured styles. Firm Hold - for strong long lasting hold for any style. Natural Hold - for a relaxed finish to any unstructured style. Flexible Hold - for a style that's full of body and natural movement. I have fairly straight, easy to manage hair and so I bought the natural hold hairspray in 400ml. I also bought a 75ml can of firm hold hairspray for times when I need a little more hold. After I have straightened my hair, I like to spray a little hairspray on to my brush and then brush my hair with it. I find that this gives the hair a nice, shiny, frizz free finish. I find that this result lasts all day, with no need for a top up, and if I decide I don't want the hairspray in then there is no need to wash my hair - a simple brush out will get rid very quickly and easily! On nights out, I either put my hair up in to a slight quiff, or I add hairspray to my roots to create a more volumous look. I use the firmer hold hairspray for these styles and find that this holds the style for the whole night, however much dancing I do! Again, as with the more natural hairspray, the spray easily brushes out. I find that the hairspray smells quite bad and I have to get out of the room where I have sprayed it as soon as possible! However, I think this is expected of any hairspray really. The spray doesn't leave hair crispy as some does and this is why I am a fan of it and will be buyig another can when this one has finished. Silvikrin has a range of hairsprays, and I may give one of these a try. There is a hairspray to maintain the luminance of coloured hair which would be ideal for my dyed blonde hair. There are also ones for added shine and style and repair. I am very interested in trying the sensitive hairspray which is designed for sensitive scalps and is fragrance free. The "Hydrospray" also sounds interesting and has won awards. It is designed to replenish moisture that is lost when styling hair with heat - ideal for me as I use my straighteners so much!

Wella Silvikrin 24 Hour Firm hold hairspray: I have never been able to find the right hair spray and I am still looking to be honest. I picked this product up from Tesco the other day and I am not too impressed. It was not cheap but believe me it is not worth the price as I really do not think it does the job that it has been made out to do. In this weather we have at the moment in Britain, as soon as I step out the door in the mornings, my hair seems to go frizzy and I was really looking for a product to stop this. Basically, I have the 75ml version of this and it comes in a deep green themed can. This is firm hold hairspray which is supposed to give reliable and long lasting firm hold and keep style flexible, not dry out your hair, no stickiness, provide UV protection, brush out easily! Can I just say, I can only think of a few of these that it actually does! You spray this 20-30cm away from your hair to prevent it from going too hard and protect your eyes but for extra volume you should spray into your roots with your head upside down! The reason why I was not too impressed with this is because, as soon as I put this on my hair went sticky and although it smelt pleasant this was not what I wanted, my hair was too firm and I followed the instructions and this dried all the roots and ends of my hair out. I paid around £2.00 for this and it really was not worth it. The only thing it really did was firmly hold my hair but way too firm and it smelt really nice! Bad product, I am still on the hunt! Holly x

          Not worth it

This is probably one of the worst hair sprays i have ever tried. I needed a hairspray and didnt know which one to go for and i seen these mini cans for 99p so i thought i would pick one up. This is extremely cheap for hairspray and i think that is the only good thing about it. I dont use hairspray that often so i didnt really know what it was like but when i started using it i realised it was rubbish. When i spray it onto my hair, it is extremely sticky and hard. It is so ovbious to tell that there is hairspray on your hair which is really not what i wanted. Also, i find this hairspray doesnt work at all because i used it too clip back my fringe and hair started coming out of the clip even though it was well in place! I thought this hairspray was supposed to be 'strong' :| 3/4 on the strong factor! well i dont think so...

          Disadvantages

          I'll know better next time!

I use hairspray quite a lot - I even spritz it over my hair when it's down to keep it in place, otherwise it sort of puffs up and takes on a mind of it's own! I usually use John Frieda's brilliant brunette hairspray which is by far the best I have ever used, and also regularly carry mini Toni and Guy hairspray in my handbag, just in case of hair emergencies! A while ago I was going to stay with a friend and realised I'd forgotten to bring my hairspray with me. Shock horror! I knew I wouldn't settle until I'd got some, so headed to the nearest Boots. Unfortunately the nearest Boots was one of those piddly little ones that hardly stocks anything, and so I couldn't get either of my preferred brands in a small size. There were only a couple of options in a handbag size, and I went for Wella Silvikrin because a.) I had heard of it, and b.) it promised 24 hour hold, which is always a good thing. Now the reason I had heard of it was because my grandma uses it. She always used to have a dark green can of it sat by the side of her armchair. To be honest, I don't know if this is a plus point or not! I think though, that what it does say is that the brand has been around for a long time, so if people continue to buy it, my assumption would be that it has to be good? The hairspray still comes in a dark green can with a yellow band round the bottom, and is nothing particularly special, but then again neither is my John Frieda one and that's amazing, so I won't hold it's blandness against it. When I sprayed this, there were two things I noticed. The first was the concentration of the spray. It seemed to come out of the can in quite a heavy mist, which I hadn't been fully expecting, and so it coated a little more of my hair than I would have liked. The second thing was the smell, this has a very strong, chemical scent and is a little nauseating. You may argue that all hairsprays are like that, and yes, I used to think so too, but neither my John Frieda (sorry to keep harping on about it, but it really is good) or my Toni and Guy ones have much of a scent. Saying that, I suppose we have to keep in mind that this one is a fair bit cheaper, so you can't expect it to do everything. Now as for it's performance. The can says that this will give 'ultimate, reliable control and manageability whilst maintaining flexibility.' It also says that it brushes out easily and adds shine. That all sounds good to me, but did it practise what it preached? Well, unfortunately, the worst thing I found about this spray, was that it left my hair very very hard. I could have walked through a building site without wearing a hard hat, safe in the knowledge that my hair would protect me from falling debris! Every time I would touch my hair I would shudder slightly, and if I pressed down on it, it would make a sort of crunchy noise. Yuk! As for the 24 hour hold? Well possibly. I couldn't stand to have it on my hair for a full 24 hours, so I brushed it out, but the time I did have it on my hair, it seemed to hold my hair quite well - possibly because it went so hard it was like a brick. It did seem to add a bit of shine and didn't make my hair look dull which is one thing it has going for it, I suppose. And another thing in it's favour was that when I brushed it out it just seemed to disappear and I didn't get little white flakes as can sometimes happen. I bought my can from Boots, but I can't remember what I paid and it's not on the Boots website. Lloyds pharmacy are charging £1.29 for a small (75ml) can and I believe this also comes in a 250ml and 400ml size. Overall, I was quite disappointed with this .Yes it kept my hair in place, but I hated that rock hard feeling I got with it, and the strong smell so I wouldn't buy it again.

A lasting hold hairspray that is gentle and kind to your hair.

Silvikrin hairspray was voted the best value hairspray in the 2008 Prima magazine beauty awards and to add to that it was used by the hairdressing team of the big stage musical `Hairspray`. Silvikrin is produced by Wella who have have always been a leading name in hair products and they have quite an extensive range too, a Shiny Hold Spray, a Hydrostyle Spray, a Sensitive Spray and a Curls and waves spray. Like most women I blow dry my own hair, it doesn't take too long but I do like it to stay in place once I have done it. If I use Styling Mousse it helps but my hair gets all `glued up`. So I reserve styling mousse for occasional use. For a long time hair with any volume has been considered out of fashion, the long straight sleek look that blows free in the wind was the up to the minute look. If you are a fashion conscious young woman that's the way to go, but I am pleased to see the tide has turned and that adding some volume to your hair is now back in again. Remember those hairstyles of the 80`s? WOW That was volume! Once I have dried my hair using the hairdryer and the roll brush I often heat my curling brush up to finish it off properly, there are always a few sections that haven't quite curled as I would like. Once I have my hair in the style that I want I give it a good spray, I have to admit i`m a bit of a manic sprayer! Silvikrin always stands out well on the supermarket shelves, the deep green and gold aerosol can stands out in the line up. It isn't the cheapest of the bunch by any means, there are a lot of money saving options to choose from. As the purse strings tightened I tried using an own brand hairspray but it was dire, for a start you have to hide the can away in your drawer because it has been designed to advertise the supermarket. Silvikrin have made a real effort to make their aerosol can pleasing to look at as well as use. Spraying Silvikrin is a pleasure, the spray is pleasantly perfumed and as you depress the nozzle a fine dry spray coats and holds your hair in place. You need to leave a few inches between the spray can and your hair to get the most from the spray. The cheaper sprays shoot from the nozzle like a wet jet spray, practically no fragrance just wet hair that dries looking like it has been `glued` together! Silvikrin`s fine mist spray leaves your hair looking just as it was, no `wet look` or `glued together` look either. Another good test for any hairspray is the way in which it brushes out from your hair, Silvikrin can be brushed right out, it leaves no residue or stickiness, the hair is back to normal. Just compare this to a supermarket own brand spray and you will immediately notice the difference, I ended up with a flaky scalp and a greasy looking mop! The Silvikrin 24 hour range caters for all hair types, a maximum hold, a firm hold, a natural hold, a flexible hold, a conditioned hold and a specially formulated spray to care for and protect coloured hair. Wellas Silvikrin Hairspray is around £1.89 for a 250ml can and is avalable from leading chemists and supermarkets.
