Advantages: Great hold, huge range of products, good price
Disadvantages: The smell - as with any hairspray!
I had read that this Wella Silvikrin 24 Hour Firm Hold Hairspray had won an award in 2008 from Prima in the Beauty Awards for the best value product, so when my Tresemme hairspray ran out, I decided to give this one a go.
I don't use hairspray very often and so this is only the third brand that I have used. Silvikrin claim to be the UK's No1 Hairspray and can certainly claim that they are my No1 hairspray!
I bought my hairspray from Tesco as it was on an offer, although I believe a 400ml is £2.80ish, a 250ml is £2ish and a handbag sized, 75ml is about £1.20. The hairspray is widely available.
The hairspray is easy to spot on the shelf. The main colour is green, with a gold strip of colour.
There are a few different types of hold that are available. These are:
Maximum Hold - for ultimate control for hard to manage or structured styles.
Firm Hold - for strong long lasting hold for any style.
Natural Hold - for a relaxed finish to any unstructured style.
Flexible Hold - for a style that's full of body and natural movement.
I have fairly straight, easy to manage hair and so I bought the natural hold hairspray in 400ml. I also bought a 75ml can of firm hold hairspray for times when I need a little more hold.
After I have straightened my hair, I like to spray a little hairspray on to my brush and then brush my hair with it. I find that this gives the hair a nice, shiny, frizz free finish.
I find that this result lasts all day, with no need for a top up, and if I decide I don't want the hairspray in then there is no need to wash my hair - a simple brush out will get rid very quickly and easily!
On nights out, I either put my hair up in to a slight quiff, or I add hairspray to my roots to create a more volumous look.
I use the firmer hold hairspray for these styles and find that this holds the style for the whole night, however much dancing I do! Again, as with the more natural hairspray, the spray easily brushes out.
I find that the hairspray smells quite bad and I have to get out of the room where I have sprayed it as soon as possible! However, I think this is expected of any hairspray really.
The spray doesn't leave hair crispy as some does and this is why I am a fan of it and will be buyig another can when this one has finished.
Silvikrin has a range of hairsprays, and I may give one of these a try.
There is a hairspray to maintain the luminance of coloured hair which would be ideal for my dyed blonde hair.
There are also ones for added shine and style and repair.
I am very interested in trying the sensitive hairspray which is designed for sensitive scalps and is fragrance free.
The "Hydrospray" also sounds interesting and has won awards. It is designed to replenish moisture that is lost when styling hair with heat - ideal for me as I use my straighteners so much!
Summary: Give it a go - its brilliant!
