Advantages: Lasts well, provides adequate hold

Disadvantages: Strong smell

Being a girlie that likes to faff around with her hair, I find that hairspray plays a big role in my day to day beauty routine.

I've tried many hairsprays over the years, and although I'm yet to find one that I'm 100% happy with, I tend to keep returning to Silvikrin.

THE PRODUCT:

As I get through a lot of hairspray, I buy the largest possible size (in this case the 400ml can). The price of this product does vary, I tend to pick it up whilst on promotion (usually for around £1.50 a can), but you can pick it up from most shops, with the Boots website currently selling it for £2.73 per can.

The can is (in my opinion) a rather boring dark green, with a large 'Silvikrin' logo on the front. It also has a pink flash running around it, in which it tells you the products 'hold' rating - in this case 4 (the maximum).

The product (made by Wella), claims that it "Gives reliable, long-lasting, maximum hold and keeps your style flexible".
It also claims that it won't dry out your hair, isn't sticky, helps provide UV protection, and brushes out easily.

USAGE:

I buy maximum hold, as I have rather long hair that struggles to keep volume. I also tend to back-comb it quite a lot, and need a hairspray that will keep this style in place.

The spray comes out in a fine mist, which I find gives me good all over, and fairly even coverage. It also dries quite quickly, which allows you to apply the product in gradual layers (helping to avoid damping your style and flattening it straight away).

I have to admit that I do not find the smell at all appealing, it is a very chemical based smell. Luckily, this does tend to fade away fairly quickly, but this product should definitely not be sprayed in too much of an enclosed space!

RESULTS:

Due to the light feel of the product, I don't feel like I've replaced my barnett with a haystack, however, I also feel that the hold can vary depending how much you spray. I find that I tend to use quite a lot to get the desired effect.

I would agree with the claims that the product isn't particularly sticky, but I do find the occasional sections of hair that have managed to glue themselves into some sort of bizzare arrangement!
As for the UV protection, I don't really have any way of justifying this claim either way - I suppose you just have to take their word for it.

Throughout the course of the day/night, I don't tend to find that I really need to re-apply any extra. The only times I've felt it's needed it has been when the good old British weather decideds to grace us with some lovely rain!

The product does brush out with relative ease, but due to my hair being quite fine, I can find that the ends become a bit of a tangle after brushing it out.
On the plus side, I have never experienced any problem with the product flaking or leaving residue on my hair (and trust me, I really do spray a LOT!).

CONCLUSION:

Although it is not the best hairspray in the world, I have tried other more expensive products, and find them to be innapropriate for my needs.

As I tend to pick it up whilst on a promotion, I find its value for money satisfactory. A can does last me a few weeks. Obviously this will differ depending on someones individual needs.
I will keep up the search for my perfect hairspray, but in the meantime this definitely suits me.

Summary: Not the greatest, but the best I've found so far

Thanks :-) I'm glad I've found an outlet for (according to my friends) my "boring" opinions on hairspray! & hey, if it impacts on peoples purchasing decisions, I'm extra happy! x
