System Professional Shine Define shampoo
I was given this shampoo and a special intensive conditioner when I bought a Groupon hair deal some time back. The deal included a style cut and intense condition as well as three products which were all full sized and the deal was under £20 so I was well chuffed.
This shampoo sells on Amazon for around £10 so it was a pretty good 'freebie'. They gave me this one as I had said that I had trouble getting my hair to look shiny. I couldn't wait to try it and now use it at least once a week in between other shampoos I have as i enjoy ringing the changes.
This comes in a plastic 'bottle' with a red lid. The lid is the sort that you push one side down and that reveals the hole that the product comes out of on the other side. I tend to store mine on the side of the bath upside down as it is easier to get the stuff out when it is that way up. The bottle is recyclable through your usual plastic recycling scheme.
You use this in the usual way, massage through damp hair and then rinse and condition as you need for your hair. The actual shampoo is clear, like water only thicker and smells fresh and very slightly lemony I think. It is a nice clean scent and makes my hair smell good as it stays on my hair if I don't use a stronger smelling conditioner afterwards.
I find a little goes a really long way as I get loads of soft light lather by using only a little shampoo but my hair is quite short at the moment so those with longer hair may need a bit more. I NEVER use two washes with shampoo as I wash my hair quite often and it doesn't really get greasy. I find i wash my hair more because I have lain on it at night and it is just as easy to wash it to get it back in the right place than fight it with products and equipment when it is dry and sitting strangely.
WHAT IS IN THIS?
Well as far as I can see it is full of chemicals and sodium laureth sulphate apart from hydrolyized pearl which presumably is the magic ingredient that makes the hair shine more. It really is full of strange sounding names and nothing is familiar apart from the previous ingredient and also castor oil everything else is a complicated chemical name so i suggest if you have a problem with allergies that you check this list on line first.
I am not sure that I would buy this again because of the fact that there seems to be nothing really obviously naturally good for the hair and i prefer to have more natural ingredients in my shampoos.
IS IT ANIMAL FRIENDLY?
I am struggling to find the truth about Wella. They did say that they did not test their products on animals but now that Procter & Gamble own Wella and so many other brands it is hard to say as they do test some of their products on animals I know as my sister works for them in Canada. Whether this actual product and its ingredients have been tested on animals is difficult to say so for me this is another reason for me not to buy it again.
IS MY HAIR CLEAN AND SHINY AFTER USING?
Well yes I have to admit whatever chemical concoction they have created inside this bottle does clean my hair and leave it feeling light and soft and even better it does have a nice shine to it too.
THE GOOD -
Cleans my hair
Makes my hair fell soft and light
My hair looks shiny
Only a small amount needed to create a nice creamy soft lather.
Bottle is recyclable through plastic schemes
I don't always need conditioner after using this
Not sure what really is in the product as most are chemical names
Not sure on the animal testing ethics
Few if any natural ingredients
Would I buy this again? No probably not as it is expensive for a product full of chemical rather than natural ingredients. I am not convinced that this is not harmful to the eco system as I don't really know what half the ingredients are.
I try to avoid buying products that have questionable animal testing ethics and also questionable ingredients that may be harmful to the earth's eco system and i am just not certain enough about this one.
It leaves my hair soft and shiny and does not appear to aggravate my eczema at the base of my hair line at the back which does flair up from time to time. That said I do avoid using some shampoos when the eczema is evident as I try to keep it controlled without having to resort to steroids which is the only fix when it gets really bad.
I have given this three stars because of the negatives but for those less bothered by these it may be their favourite product as it does do a good job.
