Advantages: Lovely, clean bouncy hair.
Disadvantages: Not a lot!
~ ~ I’ve always had a problem with my hair, ever since I was a young fella. I’d want it to do one thing, and it would want to do another. Problem is, it’s just too fine. No matter how much I combed it, along would come even the slightest zephyr or puff of wind, and it would immediately resort to its uncombed state, leaving me looking like I’d been dragged through a hedge backwards. As well as that, it’s fairly greasy, so needs washing on a daily basis, otherwise I look like an escapee from a brylcreem advert. ~ ~ It wasn’t too bad when I was a teenager (1960’s) and in my twenties, as the style then was for the long and unkempt look, and I wore it long for years, and VERY unkempt. And the notion that what sort of shampoo I used could actually make a difference never even entered my head. (or got on it, for that matter!) For more years than I care to remember my shampoo of choice was whatever washing up liquid was currently gracing the kitchen sink. It was cheap, and lasted for ages, and in any case, no matter what I used my hair still looked like I was an extra in a Boris Karloff horror movie. In other words, I’d accepted that my hair had a mind of its own, and no matter what I did, I’d never get it to look even halfway respectable. I now wear it fairly short most of the time, and that helps, as it simply isn’t long enough to look TOO untidy, no matter how much it still wants to. I’m now got slightly less of it in any case, as it eventually got fed up with the years of abuse, and began falling out of the top of my head. And to be honest, I was never terribly vain about my appearance in the first place. ~ ~ But since I got married, and more specifically since my wee lass reached the age where she has begun to take more than a healthy interest in the beauty products in the local supermarket and chemists, I’ve begun to find all sorts of fan
cy bottles of shampoo and conditioner on the shelf beside the shower. I’ve now got to check the supermarket trolley before I get to the checkout to ensure that she hasn’t slipped in so many extra shampoos, conditioners, body washes, deodorants and so on, that the old credit card would bounce higher than a football filled with helium! Anyhoo, that’s how I found myself trying out this particular shampoo, ‘Wella Vivality Volume and Care’. (for fine hair) I spotted the yellow bottle when taking my morning shower recently. Or rather, I should say ‘bottles’ (plural) as it had another bottle of conditioner taped to the back. Never being one to be accused of being unadventurous, or unwilling to try out something new, I immediately began to read the back of the bottle. (I’m such an incurable reader, I even have to read in the shower, you see!!) Here’s the blurb. “The Wella Vivality haircare range has been specifically formulated to meet the individual needs of different hair types. This Volumising Protein Formula strengthens and protects the natural structure of your hair. Hair is cleansed, giving it more volume.” ~ ~ OK. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. On it went to the old greying locks. Just a dab in the palm of my hand is enough, I discovered, after using WAY too much the first time I tried it, which resulted in a virtual deluge of suds. Feeling particularly adventurous that morning, I decided to be a real daredevil, and even applied the conditioner as well. (After I’d rinsed out the shampoo, naturally!) Now I haven’t got an earthly notion what a “Volumising Protein Formula” actually is, or even what the “natural structure of your hair” is supposed to be! But what I DO know is this. The damned stuff actually WORKS! Never before has my old mop felt so good, and if the “Volumising” bit in their blurb means that you
r hair feels fuller and with more body and volume, then they certainly aren’t exaggerating. The better half even asked me recently if my hair had began to regenerate itself on the top of my old bonce, as it seems to make the most of what little is still left there, and makes it appear like there is more hair there than is actually the case. And it seems to make a good job of cleaning it as well, to the extent that I don’t even look like the ‘bad hair monster’ with a big blob of grease on top of his head when I look in the shaving mirror in the morning. In plainer, less flowery language, my hair doesn’t seem to be as greasy as it was before. ~ ~ It’s not that expensive either, at only €3.80 (approx. £2.40 Sterling) for the 250ml bottle of shampoo in my local supermarket, with a 200ml bottle of conditioner thrown in for good measure. They do a range of different types of shampoos as well, depending on what particular hair type you have. I know that I’ve now stocked up with a half a dozen bottles while they still have the free conditioner offer on the go. And the Fairy Liquid is now well and truly back in the cupboard under the sink where it belongs! ~ ~ It’s made by Wella AG, who are based in Darmstadt in Germany, and believe it or not, as well as a freephone number you can ring for advice in both the UK and here in Ireland, they also have a website you can visit. “www.wella.co.uk/chat” Highly recommended by the ‘mad cabbie’. ~~~~~~~~~~~~

I'm always on the lookout for better shampoo/conditioners, so might give this a go even though I dislike the bottle (a bit bright aren't they?!) |
