Advantages: Relieves an itchy scalp; eradicates dandruff; good value for money

Disadvantages: None

[Unfortunately, I cannot submit this review under the category for Vosene, as the 'write a review' option does not appear!]

For the last few months, I have been suffering from an itchy scalp. I have tried several shampoos to relieve the itching, but none of them seemed to do the trick.....That was until I tried Vosene. My hairdresser recommended it, because it is supposed to be milder and more natural that some other medicated shampoos. So off I went and bought a bottle. A 250ml bottle cost me £1.92 from Morrisons, which is quite cheap for a medicated shampoo.

Vosene Shampoo is made by Wella. There are several varieties on the market, but I chose the 'Original' variety, which is designed to protect against dandruff when used regularly and help maintain healthy looking hair and scalp. It comes in a pale green bottle, with a dark green lid and looks quite basic in appearance. Don't let this put you off, though! The colour green is only used to denote the shampoo's natural, unadulterated quality.

The shampoo itself may not look particularly inviting at first, with its brown, runny texture and strong, medicated smell, but this is only to be expected. After all, Vosene is a medicated shampoo! I have tried other medicated shampoos in the past, like Neutragena T-Gel, and found them to be exactly the same in terms of how they smell and look.

So how would I describe the smell of Vosene? Well it is a cross between tea tree oil and a pine-smelling disinfectant. It is a fresh smell, and even if you don't like it, it soon fades once your hair is dry, so no worries there.

Vosene is very easy to use. Simply squirt a small amount of the shampoo onto your hand and apply to damp hair. Then massage into your hair to form a lather. Leave it for a few minutes and then rinse thoroughly with warm water. You may find it necessary to repeat this procedure, but I found doing it the once was sufficient. Like with any shampoo, contact with the eyes should be avoided. If, however, this should happen, you are advised to rinse your eyes with clean water. There is also a warning on the bottle that the shampoo should be kept out of reach of children.

After washing, your hair is left feeling pleasantly soft and silky. However, it is the longer-lasting effects which are most important and this is where Vosene scores full marks. Regular use meant that my scalp felt a lot less itchy and less prone to dandruff. Although I have never really suffered severely from dandruff, I have still noticed an improvement in the way my hair feels and a reduction in the amount of dandruff. Dandruff is actually caused when your scalp loses its natural protection, but because Vosene contains deep cleansing ingredients which help eradicate dandruff and maintain the natural protection of your scalp, the anti-dandruff effects are felt for much longer than with some other shampoos. And less dandruff also means less itching!

Overall then, Vosene Original shampoo definitely gets the thumbs up from me, and I can't really fault it in any way. It has worked better than any other medicated shampoo I have tried in the past and is not expensive to buy either. So if you suffer from an itchy scalp and/or dandruff, it might be worth trying Vosene.
