Argos Compact Dryer
Advantages: Price. Compact. 2 heat settings. Easy to use.
Disadvantages: Outside gets hot. Slower to dry.
I bought this hair dryer after I went on holiday and forgot my usual hair dryer - and I didn't want to spend a fortune on one that I was only planning to use for a week when I was down in Devon. The Argos Compact Dryer cost me just £3.97 from Argos (www.argos.co.uk) - which I thought was a pretty good price, although I have to admit that I wasn't really expecting very much from a hair dryer that was just so cheap. As long as it lasted me a week that was all I really cared about.
The hair dryer is grey and black and is pretty unexciting to look at. It is purely functional and it is clear that no money has really been on developing this hairdryer to look anything special - and it doesn't. It is made entirely of plastic and it feels quite cheap when you pick it up, partly because it is so lightweight and it gave me the impression that it wouldn't take a lot for this hairdryer to fall apart! It might be unfair of me to say that because it hasn't ever fallen apart! It is quite small and so in this respect it reminds me of a travel hairdryer and I will probably use it for this purpose.
The settings for the hair dryer are quite basic in as much as there are just two speed settings and two heat settings. It's funny that while the two heat settings work well (hot and cool), I really don't feel any difference between the speed settings - except for the noise of the motor. While in the higher speed the motor sounds noisier, the blow doesn't feel any different. The motor is quite loud, but this wasn't really something I worried about.
In terms of using it, the hairdryer has a directional nozzle which allows the blow to be directed where you want it. It's not possible to add different nozzle attachments to the hairdryer and so if you need a diffuser or anything like that then this won't do. The dryer does dry my hair but it is slower than my usual hair dryer, but then my usual hair dryer cost about 15 times as much!
The outside of the hairdryer does get hot and so I wouldn't touch it if you've used it for more than a few minutes. However, importantly, the handle stays cool and the motor doesn't cut out even when the outside feels very hot.
Overall, I think this is okay for an occasional / travel hairdryer, but I don't think I could recommend it for long term or regular use.
Summary: Ok for travel / occasional use.
