Advantages: Lightweight, good balanced shape, long cable.

Disadvantages: Loud motor, hot setting very hot

I have thick wavy long hair which has a tendency to become frizzy when I blow dry it, so I like to use a hair dryer with a diffuser attachment as this works to minimize the frizzieness. When the motor in my long term hair dryer finally gave up I searched on the internet for a replacement hairdryer with diffuser. I chose the Whal Professional 2000 watt ionic dryer from Amazon after reading many positive reviews on the site.

When it arrived I was pleased firstly with how lightweight it was, a real advantage for when drying long hair, with my original hair dryer I often found my wrists ached after drying my hair for a long time. Secondly, I liked the shape and design, it felt immediately comfortable to hold and balanced in weight. The hair dryer has a shiny chrome finish barrel which is quite short in length and a matt black non slip handle. There is a strong rubber loop on the end of the handle so it can be hung on a hook and as the hair dryer is so lightweight this may be handy for when for travelling.
The cable is a very good length at 2.8m and there are two attachments, a standard concentrator nozzle (I haven't used) and the diffuser which is a good size, not too big and fits securely in place.

I plugged in the hair dryer and started it up to test the heat settings. My first disappointment was how noisy the motor sounded as I had expected this hair dryer to be quieter than my old previous model but in fact it was louder. The set of rocker switches for settings felt at once certain and easy to use, there are 2 speed options, 3 heat settings and a cool blast.

Using the hairdryer over the following months I was disappointed by how long it took to dry my hair, even with the high speed setting. I have never actually timed how long I usually take to dry my hair but all I can say is this took way too long. I don't think I would have managed if it hadn't been such a lightweight hair dryer and as it was I would call it a day at 'almost dry'.

Other disappointments were the hot setting which was only usable for a very short time as I found it became uncomfortably hot and the cold blast that was in fact more like a 'cooler warm'. This was my first hair dryer with 'ionic' drying, a function which reduces static electricity, my hair felt silkier as a result and I did really like this.

So due to this hair dryer not seeming powerful enough to dry my hair in a sensible time scale, the noisy motor and the almost unusable hot setting I decided to pack it away in a drawer. I may use it for travelling as I do think it being lightweight and having a long cable useful but I'm afraid for me this isn't a regular use hair dryer.

Currently available from Amazon priced at £18.50.
