I went away in November last year and didn't want to spend the whole of my holiday shaving my legs so decided to look for an alternative option. I thought about having them waxed but the more I thought about it the more I put myself off, so I went for the next best thing hair removal cream. I have used hair removal creams before and haven't found them very effective but when I saw that the Avon skin so soft soft and smooth hair removal cream was on offer I thought I would try it out. When I got it all of the skin so soft products were on offer at 3 for £5 so that's what I got.
When it came it was in a box along with a spatula, the box was a fairly simple design. The product itself was in a white, squeezy plastic bottle with the lid on the bottom which made it easy to get out and use every last bit. The lid was quite stiff to open which I find with a lot of Avon products, but it meant that the product didn't leak out. The bottle had the sss logo on the front and what the product was but that was about it, which was fine it did the job. I read through the instructions which were clear and simple and contained all of the relevant information.
The product itself smelt quite nice which surprised me as other brands I have used have smelt awful. It had a soft slightly sweet smell. I squeezed the thick, white cream onto the spatula and started to apply to my legs. The spatula made it very quick and easy to apply with no mess. I left the cream on for the maximum time and when I have done this with other creams I have had a tingling, slightly burning sensation, but with this one I hardly even noticed I had it on. I scraped it off using the spatula and noticed straight away that my legs had absolutely no hair on. Once it was all removed I could see that all the hair was completely gone and my legs felt smooth and soft.
I can honestly say I found nothing wrong with this product, it did exactly as it was supposed to do. It left my legs feeling smooth and soft and most importantly completely hairless. I would definitely use this product again.
Why I purchased this product
It was actually a male member of the family who regularly attends the gym and the pool who requested this so I purchased it for them. Not willing to use wax stripes and due to the amount of hair on their back shaving really wasn't an option. So I ended up acting as beauty therapist and applied this cream on their back for them since it's quite an awkward place to reach so I have first-hand experience applying and removing the product.
The cream is in a blue and white box with the instantly identifiable skin so soft or S.S.S logo on the front of the packaging. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the box hadn't been bashed or damaged in transit. The box also contains a warning to keep away from your eyes and that it contains thioglycolate and alkali which I found useful in case you may be allergic. The box also states that the product is from the soft and smooth range and contains a complex moisturiser which insures that it is good for dry skin users.
The cream comes with a little paper leaflet and a plastic tool to swiftly apply and remove the cream which works very smoothly.
The cream itself
I was quite pleasantly surprised to find that the cream itself smells very pleasant almost like a very mild sweet cherry perfume. This was new to me as the last hair removal cream I used was Veet about six years ago and it smelled vile like burning hair, so I definitely appreciated this. The cream wasn't too thick or thin; it wasn't lumpy, white in colour and very easy applied to my male family members back. Overall the application process was easy and pleasant enough experience.
Due to the hair being about three times as thick and long as female body hair I left the cream on for just after ten minutes. After which almost all the hair came off smoothly with very little or absolutely no irritation to speak of. Any redness was from the use of the plastic tool accompanying the cream and the only reason this occurred was because this member of the family had a lot more hair than me and it took a good going at it to just physically rub all the hair away.
This was a very effective product that did everything it promised on the box, my male family member whom I will not name in case they find out and get told off was not put off by the smell being too feminine and they told me there was no burning or tingling sensation. They also said it lasted a good two weeks before they noticed a large amount of hair regrowth too. So overall this is a great product.
However me personally I will stick with professional waxing, but for those who can't stand the pain this is a definite reliable second fall back plan which is cheaper too at £3-£6 per box so I would highly recommend.
I have never thought Avon's products were anything special except for this one product. I was actually keen to buy this and try it after using their shaving foam that came in a completely different bottle many many years ago, but unfortunately they no longer do it. When they stopped selling the product I found it on eBay and so bought it from there, but now it can't be found anywhere, only their alternatives which is this and the gel.
As I loved the foam so much and the results it left me with, I was very keen to try this Soft & Smooth hair removal cream, especially when all of the Skin so Soft products from Avon were half price!
It comes in a box with a spatula for you to apply the product with. I actually hate using spatula's to apply things, as I get these with make-up products etc sometimes and always end up binning them and using my hands/fingers. Therefore I cannot comment on how handy the spatula was to apply the cream as I have never used it.
As I had used the previous shaving foam by Avon, and have used other shaving creams etc, I did not do a test on my skin first before using this, and instead just applied it to my legs straight away that night when I was in the bath. I don't like to use shaving creams under my arms, only for my legs.
The product itself was quite think and creamy, I had to rub it in for a while and for it to spread out evenly over my legs. You do not need too much when applying, I often use too much when squeezing it out of the bottle as I often think I would not have enough. It states to leave the product on you for at least 5 minutes, and no longer than 10. I leave the product on for 5 minutes. I wipe away the product with my razor, I know this is not necessary and you only need to wipe the product off, but I find the results are better when wiping it off with my razor, and it doesn't irritate my skin at all.
I love the results of this cream. My legs are left feeling silky smooth for a few days and I do not need to shave my legs for a few days either, whereas if I don't use the cream and just shave my legs normally with just a razor and shower gel, I have to shave them everyday and they are not left feeling completely smooth or soft.
As it takes some time to apply the cream and then you have to wait at least 5 minutes, I can't always be bothered to apply this, and often only use it if I am having a night out or going anywhere special. I can't be bothered to use this every time that I have a bath or a shower so see it as a luxury treat for when I have time to pamper myself.
The only disadvantage to this product is the smell, it isn't as nasty as other products I have tried but you can still smell the strong chemicals that are used in shaving creams.
It is priced in the Avon brochure and on Avon's shop online at £5.50, but you always find this in some sort of promotional offer, or for even cheaper on eBay. At the moment the products from the Skin so soft range are priced at any 3 for £5 so now would be a very good time to stock up!
I have used Hair Removal Cream for years. I find it a bit fiddly to use on my leg, but I don't really have much Hair on my legs anyway. Having blonde Hair the Hair seems light and just a small scattering, so I continue to shave there. It's under my arms that I use this Cream. I like be Hairfree underthere and feel nice and fresh when i'm defuzzed.
This is from Avon's Skin So Soft range. It comes in a 150ml tube and the right price is £5. As usual with Avon it is often on offer, and I've picked this up on a buy on get one free, half price offer etc.
The tube is how the Dooyoo picture is. They used to look different but most of the range has had a makeover. I think it looks more expensive this way, but I don't care much about what it looks like outside, it's the inside part.
This comes in a box with a set of instructions and a large plastic spatula to apply this. This keeps opened for 12 months, and I wouldn't use it after the 12 months as it would worry me if it would burn me or that. As usual with hair Removal Cream you are meant to do a test with this to make sure your skin is suitable.
As you can imagine the way to use this is to squirt some onto the flat bit of the Spatula, and apply to the area you want to de-fuzz. The Cream is quite thick and although This is meant to have a light fresh scent to it, you can still smell the horrid chemical smell from this. It would be good if we could get a completely nice smelling Cream, but that probably won't happen with any manufacturer.
Leave on for between 5 minutes and no longer than 10 minutes, and then wipe off to reveal hair free Pitts. I tend to leave on the 10 minutes as due to experience another brand I used needed the 10 minutes to work.
The Hair comes off fine and I use Toilet Roll to wipe it off. Then you wash the area with Warm water and pat dry. After using this you can use Deodorant straight away and it won't sting.
I would recommend this. I've been using it for years and it does the job it's meant to do and It is usually at a good price. I stock up when the offers are on anyway.
Worth a try for fuzz free areas.
I have just got back from the bathroom, where I have just been getting rid of some unwanted hair that I have. So, I thought I would write a review all about the product I used to do this. It is from Avon, of course, and is part of the Skin So Soft range.
I would like to warn people that this is not to be used for facial hair. I will admit that I just used this cream to do this, for the first time, and that right now, ten minutes later, MY FACE IS STINGING LIKE CRAZY!!
So, I have to warn you that although this only took about three minutes, rinsed off with water, and got rid of my facial hair smoothly, you should not really use this for on your face. Because MY GOD IT HURTS! and my face is also bright red and looks very sore too which is definitely not a good look.
So now I'll tell you about this product and what its like after you have properly used it. That is, on body hair such as arms, legs, etc and not on your face. Well this is very simple. Brilliant. Excellent. Amazing!
Before now I have used other hair removal creams, such as Veet. And they always seem to smell really bad and its a strong smell that lasts. Quite often they leave me with a rash as well.
Did I find these side effects with these cream? Er, no I did not.
The way this smells is absolutely wonderful. It isn't too strong and is very subtle, so that really you'd never know it was there unless you were actually looking for it.
This is very gentle and soft and only takes about four minutes to work. The max time the instructions tell you to leave this on for is 10 minutes but I don't think you would need to leave it on this long at all.
This only cost me 99p, believe it or not. It normally costs about £3.50 in the brochure, and its well worth it. I definitely recommend this to all :)
Let's face it hair removal is a must and this product is a must have. i have tried quite a few products on the market but find this is cheaper, less messy and has definately got my loyalty.
The outer box is light blue in colour with the skin so soft logo on it. It's less obvious when on your bathroom shelf than other brands like Veet who practically shout what they are. The tube itself is again light blue with the same logo on. The cap is a flip top which you can stand the product on. This means of course that you can get more of the product out. Add to that the fact that as soon as you squeeze the tube it stays that way so its very good at using as much of the product as you possibly can. Each tube holds 125ml of product which is a decent amount of cream and will last me a month to six weeks. This really depends upon where and how often you use the cream.
The product itself is white in colour and has a fresh clean fragrance to it. I find it goes on like a thick cream ( thicker than Veet ) but when on can be spread very easily with the spatula included in the box. Like all such creams a small test is advisable to check it's suitablility for your skin. I have very sensitive skin and find it's fine but please if your going to use it do a test first. I find usually the cream works within 2-3 minutes and the results are silky smooth legs. I don't find it as messy as similar products I have used and definately like the end result.
Usually this product is £5.40 from your Avon representative but as I have mentioned in my previous reviews they frequently are on special offer - like currently you can buy three for £5. If you do find it's not suitable for you or you just don't like it as long as you hand it to your Avon representative within 90 days you can get a full refund - no matter how much you have used.
To be honest I find this product good for a number of reasons. The packaging does not shout aloud what it is, it's not messy and it's affordable.
firstly ... wow, no burning or rash on the skin .. a first for me
i have sensitive skin, and other hair removing creams have burnt me, or left me with an itchy rash, which is not nice depending where youve use it
so seeing this, and loving other avon products, i gave it a go, and i was suprised. (a) because of the reasonable price (b) my skin loved it
although the subble came back after only a couple of days..
it doesnt smell nice, just like other hair removing creams, but it did leave my skin silky smooth, even when i went over the recommended maximum time for treatment area.. i still didnt have a mark on my skin
i was so impressed, this is now a regular item on my order, and a weekly must for my beauty routine
if you like things that are kinder ont he skin.. this is one of them :-)
thank you AVON
I have decided that this hair removal lark us women have to go through can be a right pain in the......well you know! I generally use a razor which usually does a good job + its a pretty quick fix. I have opted for waxing before but only from the knee down theres no way I would let any hot wax touch me anywhere else let alone a waxing strip *shudder*. So a couple of weeks ago I came to the conclusion that although a razor works well enough on my legs it wasn't particularly doing a stella job in other places. In other words the razor was a bit harsh in the more sensitive areas.
This is where Skin So Soft & Smooth Hair Removal comes in. I was browsing through the Avon catalogue and came across the Skin So Soft products which were all on offer. I ordered the Hair Removal cream which was £1.50. My thoughts were 'if it doesn't work I haven't lost much'.
The tube is white with the blue SSS logo on the front. It holds 125ml and is manufactured by Avon. The tube comes in a box which also holds a small pale blue spatula that is used to apply & remove the cream. There is also an instruction leaflet that gives general directions in a number of languages.
Instructions: Test before use, you should apply a small amount to an area of your skin where hair is that you wish to remove. Wait for 24 hours to make sure there is no reaction to the product.
How to use: Using the back of the spatula apply a thick layer of cream over hair to be removed. After 2.5 minutes, test a small area. If hair does not wipe off easily, leave for a few minutes longer, do not exceed 10 minutes.
To remove hair: Wipe cream off using the spatula and rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water and a damp washcloth. Do not rub or use soap. Pat dry.
For thicker, coarser hair: rinse with warm water for several minutes before application.
I personally did not test the product before using it as I dont tend to suffer from allergic reactions. I just jumped right in at the deep end.
I used the cream under my arms and on my bikini line. I did feel a bit of a wally standing around just covered in cream not being able to do much, especially with the cream being under my arms. I had to make sure I didnt move around to much and wipe the cream off prematurely, so I found myself standing with my arms above my head....nice!
So does it work?
After 2 to 3 minutes I set to work on removing the cream and the unwanted hair came off nicely. I had obviously left it on for long enough as there was no problem areas once I was finished. The only thing I found about the cream is the smell of it. It really doesn't smell that great at all. And because you cant initially use soap to wash it off the smell lingers and follows you around. Needless to say after a few minutes I was back in the bathroom with the soap. I had no reaction to the cream whatsover. It left my skin feeling really smooth, much better than a razor which usually leaves a slightly rough surface.
I have had my first tube now for about 3 weeks and theres still plenty left. I dont actually use it on my legs which is why its probably lasting much longer. The Skin So Soft Hair Removal Cream is usually £5.00 in the Avon catalogue but is frequently on offer. The first time I bought it t was £1.50 and the second time it was £2.50. The current Avon catalogue has an offer of any 2 Skin So Soft products for £4.00.
Warning: Contains Alkali and Thioglycolate. If the product comes in to contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice. Do not use on face, in nose or ears, on nipples, moles, warts, sensitive membrane areas or on any broken/irritated skin.
And always wait at least 24 hours between application.
