      A quality razor from Braun

      Braun Contour 5886

I was given this razor as a birthday present by my girlfriend's parents some five years ago and it's still going strong now. It is a rechargeable type with a power cord so that it can also be used while plugged into the mains.

It is a sturdy razor that can easily be held in your hand. It has twin shaving heads, and the top as a whole moves from side to side for a better shave.

I have dark hair and have to shave every day. It takes about five minutes for me to do a complete shave, and I'm pretty happy with the smoothness of the cut. It isn't as close as a wet shave but its better for my skin.

The razor is rechargeable. The recharging cord is very durable and recharging takes perhaps an hour. A light will flash while its recharging - when it stops flashing the razor is fully charged.

I probably get about a week's use out of each recharge. There is a light display on the front of the razor which shows you roughly how much charge is left. Of course, you can use the razor while its plugged in - obviously it works a lot faster. For me, though, the battery is convenient because I tend to be running late in the mornings and need to carry it around with me while I do other stuff.

It also has a beard trimmer which slides out. I don't have a beard so rarely use it, but it's useful for cutting sideburns.

The razor comes in a little black plastic case which clips shut (the clip bit has actually broke on mine now). Inside the case is a little brush which can be used to clean the shaver heads.

I don't know if these razors are still in circulation or whether the world has moved on to newer designs - I don't check because I have no problems with it - but it's a fine product and has served me well. It's obviously a little grubby now but having served me for five years without a hitch says a lot about the quality of Braun products as a whole and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Braun razor (should I ever need one) in the future.
