Advantages: The razor is great
Disadvantages: The addition of a battery is in my opinion un called for
I have a collection of different razors which are designed to be re-used by buying new blades for them. The reason for this rather large collection is because the price of the blades is in my opinion extrotionate so I end up buying the razors when they are on offer as even with buying one every few weeks it still works out cheaper for me.
Disposible razors are obviously cheaper but I have yet to find any that are actually decent enough to use without leaving me with nicks and clumps of random patches of hair left over.
Probably the razor that I end up buying the most is the Gillette fusion as this is the one that seems to be always on offer. I find this to be the best of the mid range razors at giving a close shave and leaving my skin nick free.
Alongside the normal fusion razor Gillette have also come out with a power version which although it looks the same at frist glance it has one big difference and that is that it uses a battery to supposedly give a better shave.
First of all as a nomal razor the fusion is great. It has 5 blades which really do give a close shave without the need to have to go over your skin multiple times which bviously helps with the irritation shaving can cause. There is also a precision blade on the back of the razor for getting those awkward little patches under the nose etc.
There is also a little lubrastrip which is supposed to release aleo vera and vitamin E to the skin as you are shaving. This is released when the strip gets wet.
Although the lubrasrip is a good idea in theory in practise I find it prety much useless as it dries up after the first use.
As I try not to shave everyday I find that I can get one head on he razor to last me a few weeks before I have to change it and it stays sharp for ages unlike disposible razors where I am lucky if I can shave my whole face before they are blunt.
Now for the power part. The power is activated by putting an AAA battery in it and then all you have to do is press the button. The part where the battery goes is completely watertight so you don't need to worry about running the razor under the tap.
When you turn the power on it starts to vibrate which is supposed to give you an even closer more comfortable shave. In my experience though I find it more difficult to shave properly when the vibration is activated and I actually ended up nicking myself a few times because of it. The area over the adams apple is especially difficult to shave when the vibration is turned on.
As for giving a smoother shave that's another thing I'm not sure of as I find that the razor gives a close enough shave already so I don't really see the point of the vibration action.
I also found that with the vibration on it caused me to have even more problems with shaving rash than when I shaved normally.
To be honest I truely believe the power action is unneeded and just an expensive gimmick and you would be better buying the cheaper original fusion razor.
The fusion power razor is priced at around £10.99 but it is always on offer in one shop or another and this is usually 1/3 off but if it were me I would put it back on the shelf and but the cheaper manual version instead.
5 stars for the razor but only 3 for this power version.
Summary: A good razor but I don't like the addition of a battery
