I am 40 something year old man and have tried to vary how and when I shave as the novelty of it soon wears off ! This sensitive gel from Gillette suits my skin and as I currently do bother to shave every day is economical for day to day use.
This Gillette sensitive gel is one I have tried for probably the last couple of times I have needed to buy gel / foam. I tend to go for the sensitive version of whatever product I am buying ( as you will see from my other reviews) my skin can react to things like soap which I cannot use at all.
This Gel comes out green and foams up pretty good when you use hot water, otherwise of course you end up with a mess of gel and cold water everywhere. The gel I find sometimes gunges up in the nozzle, which has to be cleaned. I Prefer Gillette foam these days and have bought this gel when it has been on sale if I remember correctly. The foam gives me a less sticky messy feeling than having the gel which has to be done right or it goes gungy.
The Gillette sensitive gel is normally just under £2 from Tesco but they sometimes do a two for one offer which is when I probably got mine. Tesco own brand is pretty good also but I stick with Gillette for shaving products normally unless trying out new ones or gifts , as they last so long.
In summary If you like gel and shave often this will suit you and is designed for sensitive skin so will not be overpowering or have a big impact.
A while ago I had placed an order with Asda grocery delivery, and one thing that I had on the list was a ladies sensitive shave gel, however, when the order arrived the item had been substituted for this Gillette Sensitive Shave Gel, which to be honest I wasn't quite sure about, as I automatically associated it with a male product that would ultimately smell like a masculine product, however, rather than wasting the product, I gave it a go.
A canister of this sensitive shave gel costs anything form £2 to £4. I like the fact that this is a shave gel instead of a shave foam, as I find it easier to shave my legs etc that way as you can see better what you are doing and where you are shaving!
The colours etc of this canister are, in my opinion, male colours in that they are dark, whereas most ladies shave gels are brightly coloured. This product claims to be lightly scented and contains aloe vera, which is obviously beneficial to skin. THis product is meant to contain 3 different lubricants to help the razor glide over your skin and ultimately generate a smooth finish, or in my case, smooth legs. It should also protect against nicks and redness with its anti friction formula.
I have been using this shave gel for a couple of months now, and firstly, I have been impressed with how long it has lasted me, as it still shows no sign of coming to an end, and that is with me using it every other day. Despite claims to be lightly scented, I wouldn't say that I notice any scent at all, which doesn't really bother me either way. Yes, most of the ladies gels smell lovely and fruity, but as long as this doesn't leave my skin smelling like a man I don't mind, and it doesn't so I am happy with that. Since I have been using this product, I have had no nicks or redness which I think is down to the product, as with other products there can be nicks at times. It also does live up to its claims of gliding smoothly over the surface of the skin, which I think does help. In regards to keeping my skin in good condition, I do feel that my skin is soft and smooth on the legs and underarms where I mostly shave, and presume that is mostly down to the aloe vera in the product.
All in all, although I still think this is product aimed at the male market, it did do the job well. I liked the way it left my skin, I like how it helped the razor glide over the skin. However, I still would probably buy the more feminine shave gel, just because I like girly things, however, I would buy this it is was on a good offer.
I used to have sensitive skin but as I have got old and weather beaten, sensitive skin is the least of my concerns. I have however always had a fondness for Gillette products and unusually perhaps, I keep this for my weekend shaves which are a little longer and more thorough than Monday to Friday ones.
I have had the current 200ml can for months and months although it did disappear to my wife's bathroom cupboard for a couple of months before I spotted and retrieved it a couple of weeks ago - not before she had bought me a foam shave product which I didn't much appreciate.
I much prefer gels to foams and feel they give you a closer and better shave. I like the fact that this Gillette Gel gives good coverage and smooths nicely onto your face, leaving a nice bluey white beard to shave through. I always feel as if the gel itself provides a degree of protection to the face and helps to avoid cuts and nicks.
I have had the odd nick using this, especially if I have also started a new blade which I tend to do at the weekend, but this is mostly due to my own carelessness. You do have to be a bit careful if you have any spotterooneys, because this covers your face thoroughly and unless you remember the location of the spots and take extra care, it's easy to chop the tops off.
The gel has a nice fresh smell and leaves my skin feeling suitably soft and moisturised; I don't use any after shave products as a rule and don't feel I need to using this Gillette product.
It comes in a 200ml can with the standard pump dispenser. I find you need very little gel to give you a nice smooth coverage on your face and this one can, even if I were to use it daily, would last a good three months.
It's good stuff and good value for money. 5 stars from me.
I think I am putting this review in the right place the product that I am rating and reviewing is the Gillette series sensitive skin gel. There is no longer according to the Gillette website a Gillette sensitive gel so I think the product must of morphed into this one.
This is a product I buy for my husband but most weeks I also use it when shaving my bikini line legs and under arms too so this review will look at both the women's point of view and the mans.
What is it?
This shaving gel is infused with Aloe for protection and skin soothing effects. The gel also contains various lubricants including Glycerin and Silica, hydrate to enhance razor glide and deliver a smooth comfortable. The gel comes in a metal canister with Gillette branding across it in blue and silver. The gel is dispensed by a nozzle and pressing this neither my husband or I have had any problems with the gel being dispensed in all the cans of the gel we have used. The gel is a light blue color and is then foamed in to a creamy foamy texture for shaving.
The female perspective.
I have used the gel the majority of the time for shaving my legs underarms and bikini during the time I have being using this product I have generally found it to lather up well. I tend to need only a small 5 pence piece size to cover the whole of one of my lower legs. I generally dispense the gel straight on to my legs and massage it into my skin to produce nice white foam. When I am doing my underarms and bikini line I ten to put a small amount of the gel on my finger tips and then massage this there to produce the foam which I then rub on to the area needed. The smell of this is a bit chemically and masculine I find but this only lasts I find the length of time it is on my body once I have rinsed it off there is no lingering odour. Though I say it is chemically it is not unpleasant and merely reminds me a bit of hospitals with their chemical smell.
I find that once it is on my skin and lathered up gliding the razor over my skin is easy to do and there is never any friction between the razor and my skin. Once I have shaved I noticed in no areas of my body any redness and this I find to be a great endorsement of the product as other foams and gels have often produced some redness on my skin in the bikini line especially so I think the sensitive skin claims live up to their claims well. I personally would definitely recommend this shaving gel to other women
The male perspective.
As my husband is not a member of dooyoo I devised him a short questionnaire to test out his thoughts and experiences I haven't done this with a review before so fingers crossed you like it! He uses the gel to shave both his face and his head as he has so little hair no he just shaves it all off
1 why did you choose this gel rather than foam in the same series?
I prefer gel as it is softer and gentler on my sensitive skin
2 How does it feel on your skin?
It feels soft and cool on my skin
3 Does it lather up well?
It lathers up better than foam which I find just seems to fall of my face and razor
4 How well does your razor glide over the gel when on your face and head?
The razor cuts through the gel smoothly and doesn't seem to clog up the razor you dunk it in the water after each swoop with the razor
5 How does it smell on you face?
It smells fresh light and invigorating
6 Does it reduce nicks and cuts when shaving?
Not the way I shave but I suppose so and it should if I shaved better
7 Does it reduce shaving rash?
Yes I never get any redness using the gel
8 Would you recommend it to others?
I would recommend it to people if they have sensitive skin
9 Anything else men need to be aware about this gel?
It's more expensive than foam
In the jillycat household this product gets a thumbs up and a recommendation from both my husband and I we both find that it is easy to use smells ok and reduces nasty redness on sensitive skin and sensitive skin areas. At around £3 a can it not an expensive buy either.
I have been using this shaving gel for a while now and I can't see myself changing any time soon. The reason I first started using this gel was because I thought I had sensitive skin. It turned out that the previous gel that I was using was just irritating my skin. Even though I do not have sensitive skin , I still use this gel as it leaves my skin feeling soothed and fresh!
To use you simply pop the lid of and break the seal on the button. This is easy and does not require much effort. After that , the button just needs a push to start dispensing gel. The gel comes out very quickly. Quite often , more than you need comes out! I don't know if this is a accident or if Gillette did it on purpose so that you use more gel up with every shave so you will have to buy another quicker?
The gel is a blue color just like how it is shown on the bottom of the can. It does start to turn to a more of a white color when rubbed on but this does not affect its performance. It has a nice fragrance that isn't overpowering which is a problem with some other gels and foams that I have tried.
It works the same as any other shaving gel. I find that it works best when your face is wet under the foam. It gives a smoother glide. You only have to use a small amount. The same size as a conker usually covers your neck and face.
Mine cost me £1.90 for a 200ml can. I think that this is a reasonable price as the can lasts a good few shaves and it is from a well know brand which I can trust. The can is black with Gillette up the side. There is also some facts on the can which you can see in the picture.
Overall , A great gel which sooths and smells good.
This is the kind of product that my husband uses. I often nick some of his if I run out of mine, and I often run out of mine as I don't much care if I have stock of mine. Any old thing will do in a way as they all do the same thing, but some just smell nicer than others.
I think that this costs around £1.40 for the 200ml tin. Average priced and the same price as all the brand names. A supermarket brand will work out a bit cheaper so it's perhaps worth trying a cheaper brand if you want.
The tin looks the same as the Dooyoo picture - as usual. I think that this looks qutie a masculine tin, which I can assume it is more for the male market anyway. Other ones in the range are blue and green coloured but this is black. Not my kind of colour scheme but it's what's inside the tin that counts.
This is a thick Gel. Just shake the tin and squirt a bit of this out. It squirts out pretty quick so watch and press the button on this quite gently. The Gel comes straight out and although it is a Gel there is a bit of a Foam that it is on top of the Gel when it comes out. You can rub this in easy enough and this is pretty thick when rubbed onto the area. Turns into a thick foam and you just Razor this off just as usual.
The scent of this is alright. There isn't much scent here and it just smells a clean and fresh scent. There seems to be a hint of a kind of Aloe scent, but not much. I'm guessing that there isn't much scent in here since it is a Sensitive Gel, but I don't care if there is a lot of scent in this kind of product anyway.
This is a good product from a good brand and suitable for Sensitive Skin.
I like both a shaving gel and foam when it comes to buying my shaving products, I do not have a favourite and tend to buy which one is on offer usually at the time or one that I have tried before and of which suits my skin and there are so many to choose from in supermarkets it can be quite a task to buy one if you do not have a favourite and so I just buy one that I think catches my eye most of the time. I use a lot of shaving foam and gel products because I sometimes often shave twice a day at times.
I bought this one from my local shop for only a £1 for 200ml, the can is quite nice looking, although I do not care what it looks like so much as what the product does for my skin etc. This one is a good amount for the price and it is a very well known brand that has been on the market for quite some time.
It has a nice nozzle that releases the gel and it has a plastic top to keep it clean etc after use. The gel is a nice texture and smells very nice indeed. The texture is nice and soft to the touch and when it is rubbed gently onto my face it feels very cooling. It does not irritate my skin at all and I find it soothes my skin if I have a previous rash. I find it is easy to apply by using the end of my fingers.
The gel sits nicely on the skin and it gives a very nice close shave, the razor glides across the gel and does not tug or pull my skin while shaving. It is very easy to rinse from the face when I have finished my shave and it also leaves the skin feeling nice and soft. I apply my aftershave when my skin is dry and it has always been fine for my liking.
This one is worth the usual price of around £1.75 and most supermarkets stock this one as it is a popular one and well known. I think that it is a very good quality gel indeed for the low price. It has a nice fragrance too and it is not too overpowering for my liking for a shaving gel. It is just the right amount of smell that suits me.
The nozzle is easy to press to release the gel and it is not at all runny, it is a nice gentle gel and is not harsh on the skin. I do not have such a sensitive skin and I have bought this one many times before as I just like the quality and the feel of it on my skin. The colour is a nice shade of turquoise and only a small amount is needed to foam on the skin, it foams really quickly too and it spreads quite evenly. The consistency is very good too for the price and I think it is extremely good value for money indeed.
It is a nice refreshing smelling gel and feels good on the skin and I think it is good for any kind of skin but especially for sensitive skin as it is very gentle. It moisturises the skin too and as it does contain Vitamins. This one is a gel I will continue to buy especially when on special offer as it does suit my skin very well and I love the product and I highly do recommend it for others to buy as I think it is a super gel indeed.
I rate it 5 stars.
I have used this shaving gel for a long time and have no intent of changing. I am not so sure I have sensitive skin, although I am liable to slight redness on my cheeks so I guess I could be! Nevertheless, this shaving gel seems to help soothe my skin and prevents it from getting damaged when I shave.
It comes in a 200ml can and is available from most supermarkets for around £1.80. A large white Gillette logo goes up the front with a 'Gel' title in blue along with an animation of it. The gel itself is actually blue but once you foam it up, it turns whiter, which is interesting!
The can has a translucent dark lid, which easily just pops off. Underneath is a button with a nozzle on the end. It has good grip on it too. Pressing this down for the first time, you must break the seal on the button. However, after that it's very sensitive to pressure and a little push will release quite a fair amount of the gel.
You genuinely only need a hazelnut size portion of the gel and it'll easily cover your whole face and neck where you may have facial hair. I apply it to my face wet as it seems to make the shaving process easier and the gel foams in nicely too. You should apply it with your fingers rubbing them in little circles. There should be a good layer on but not too much as you won't get the closest shave. You need enough though for it to soothe your face!
After using this, I feel quite refreshed and my face doesn't pain too much. It smells very nice and masculine too, which is a plus, although I always tend to use aftershave anyway. The gel foams up very well and becomes soft to touch. It comes away nicely as you shave and certainly masks the fact you are cutting away all that hair.
I'm not sure if it's worth getting a cheaper make as I have never tried one. This isn't the most expensive on the market either and the can being just 200ml will last you ages. If you shave every couple of days, it'll last about 2 months I'd say, which is good going. I'd certainly recommend it along with other Gillette shaving products such as their razors.
Thanks for reading!
Gillette gel for the sensitive skin is the only gel which i reach for when i go to the shops. So let me tell you why.
A number of factors make this gel head and shoulders above the other gels. First of all the gel lasts a real long time. I think that it goes further than any other gel on the market. The bottle which i have at the moment has lasted me around 2 months or so and is still going stong. This means that it is cost effective, so while it may be more expensive than other gels it last a long time.
The other thing that cant be questioned is that it does its job. I have sensitive skin and i have never experienced any form of irritation after shaving when using this gel. I have however experienced irritation when i have used other competitor gels.
On gripe i have with this is it is annoying to take anywhere, it does not quite fit in the wash bag to take traveling. I wish gillette would invent a more travel friendly can as this would make a big difference as i travel alot.
Overall this is a very good shaving gel and it cannot be beaten by any other gel on the market in my opinion.
I dont usualy use shaving gel, prefering to use shower gel. My partner however uses it on a regular basis. He uses gillette shaving gel - sensitive. This morning i decided to pinch some of his shaving gel to shave my legs.
The Gel comes in a 200ml can, with the usual clear pop lid and gillette graphics on the front of the tin. It also states that it is for sensitive skin.
On the back it has a caution in english and some other languages, stating that it is a pressurised container and should be kept out of direct sunlight and away from children. There are also picture directions son how to use the product. I think that these are far to small and even with my good eye sight need to hold the can close to make them out.
The Gel itself is light green in colour and when rubed makes a white foam that really fluffs up. be careful not to use to much as it can be quit deseaving.
I found that it gave me a closer shave and a smoother finish. Making me feel very sexy indeed. There is no evidence of a shaving rash and my legs feel the smoothest i have felt them in ages. I think i will continue to use his shaving gel until he realises and makes me buy my own.
Why would a woman be reviewing a mans shaving gel I here you ask? Well I use shaving gel and last week I run out unexpectedly! I have to use it cos I'm heavy handed with my razor and am forever cutting myself and my bits and bobs badly needed lobbing off (though not my skin only my hair lol!).
So I raided my Step-Dads goody drawer and there lying in wait for me to pinch was this product! Ordinarily I wouldn't touch something designed for the male population but needs must and all that so I whipped it and used it!
Black, grey and sea green can with a greyish see-through lid to the top of it which conceals a push button black dispenser. On the front of the can I'm told it is indeed Gillette Gel (picture of the gel is shown), and that it is for sensitive skin and has a comfort glide formula. On the back of the can I'm told it is a lightly fragranced product, cautions are listed as are the ingredients, contact details for Procter & Gamble are given (the manufacturer of Gillette products), size and the recycle symbol are shown and finally there is bar-code on there. Nice man friendly can this is!
Well the gel itself is a very light green colour and dispensing like a gel for a couple of seconds before then mostly going white and looking creamy over the base of the gel. It's very soft and slightly (very slightly) sticky and has a gorgeous masculine scent of a nice but light aftershave which to me has a hint of citrus to it and musk. Whatever it is it's really lovely anyway and as promised light!
Spreading it on the skin I noticed a little of this glides on with ease so you don't need very much at all. Skin is left feeling comfortable with this on and then you simply shave away. The razor glides with incredibly ease over this stuff bringing it away of course as you go. Skin isn't feeling irritating or tingly it simply makes shaving easy!
Then when your done you rinse the residue off and your left with a delicate fragrance on the skin for a good couple of hours (till it fades off) and your also left with incredibly smooth, soft and cared for skin after using this as you really can get a safe close shave with it.
Not for me, I'm a girl and this scent wise is not meant for me lol. However it is lovely for the men and I am impressed with how easy it made to shave myself and that my skin was left feeling rather rejuvenated and fresh as well as incredibly smooth after using this. I'd recommend it for a man if you don't want skin irritation!
A good buy and my Step-Dad usually purchases this for about £2.63 a can in a supermarket but I do know that you can get this in many places!
I cannot find anything pleasurable in shaving. It is one of the jobs me have to really do. I always shave first thing in the morning and it wakes me up that for sure. Yet as a young child I couldn't wait to be able to do it, I would watch my father and think I would one day be able to do that.
In the past 20 or so years I have tried different ways of removing my chin hair and also lots of contrasting products. One of the choices was an electric shaver, but for me this didn't work as I found the shave wasn't close enough and left my chin region irritable. Since then I have tended to prefer the traditional shaving foam method also with varying success but never with very much enjoyment.
The Gillette Company were founded back in 1901 as a safety razor manufacturer; by 1916 they had developed their first razor for women. Their success has been enhanced by a very successful and prolonged television advertising campaign. In 2005 Procter & Gamble acquired this Boston based company.
Gillette has been making grooming products for decades. Even when I was little their name was synonymous with razors. In those days they made razors that you simply took the blade out and replaced it every so often. Since then they are also successfully marketed disposable razors in 1946. But their product range is far larger than that they make deodorants, moisturisers, scrub and shaving gels.
Even there range of shaving gels is quite expansive, they make a variety of both foams and gels that cater for all types of skin from dry, regular, oily and sensitive. With products either supplied in 200ml or 250ml containers.
Price has always been my downfall in the past, as I tended not to have any brand or product loyalty. I simply bought the product that was on offer on that particular week. As a result I tried many varying products with equally contrasting results.
Currently at my local supermarket this product is on sale for £1.79 for the 200 ml can. Which is probably a medium price for products in this field. The cheapest is the Tesco's own label foam at just £0.34 and goes up to Nivea gel that costs £4.15.
Gillette gel for sensitive skin is stored in an effective green, sliver and black airtight aluminium container. It has the famous Gillette logo clearly on the front and is a very clear and easy to read writing on the front. The product has a clear cap, which simply pulls easily off and the product can be easily administered by pressing the button on the top of it and the gel comes out of the plastic nozzle. I am surprised it is not some sort of safety design to prevent young children opening and playing with this, but the gel comes out slowly and I don't believe could be accidentally be sprayed in the eyes.
On the back of the tine is one of my pet hates details of the product in a variety of different languages. It does not specifically tell you how to administer the product, but has a safety warning and tells you not to store in direct sunlight or in temperatures above 50 degrees C. At the bottom there is also a list of ingredients used to make this.
Aqua, Palmitic Acid, Triethanolamine, Isopentane, Glyceryl Oleate, Stearic Acid, Sorbitol, Parfum, Isobutane, Hydroxyethylcellulose, PEG-90M, Propylene, Glycol, Aloe Barbadensis, Leaf Juice, Benzyl, Salicylate, Limonene, Linalool, CI 42090.
When I tried this product I found the bright greeny-blue gel was easy to get out of the tin. It is neither runny nor is it a solid substance. It had a fresh clear and minty smell that I found fresh and very pleasant.
I put a small amount of the gel on my hand then onto my already wet face. Where with a gentle rub it turns into a white foam. It easily covers your face and does not run at all, leaving a coating of foam that consistently covers the beard area. It was cooling and soothing on my skin when it came into contact with it and felt strangely satisfying.
I found the gel helped me produce a high quality shave, because of the white gel covering all my chin region I also discovered all my stubble was taken off quickly and very effectively and I was left with a clear and smooth surface, that also felt clean and fresh and made me feel confident.
The residue of the cream easily came off simply with water, leaving me feeling good and confident, plus I smelt pleasant. The result is a very high quality shave that also makes me invigorated and keen and enthusiastic for the day ahead, knowing I have given myself a positive and good start.
Experience has taught we this product does not leak like some of the foams that I have tried around the nozzle area and any gel can be easily washed away if pressed by accident. I also find and it could be psychological but I do not cut myself so much with this gel. This could be because of its even administration on my skin or that I just take more care but it certainly is a bonus.
Having tried many shaving foams and gels. I find this product is best for me because it produces a good shave and it makes my skin feel nice without irritating it in the slightest.
For me there are no negative features about this product, just a consistent good product that helps to make my life a little easier.

I really recommend this as a fantastically effective grooming product. It is kind to your skin and feels good on application to the sensitive skin. It helps to produce a good quality shave that leaves me feeling fresh and ready to take on the world, knowing my face is as clean and clear as it can be. It certainly makes me feel refreshed and confident to take on the world again.
And yes sadly for me it is the best a man can get!!
Thanks for reading my review.
