Gillette Mach3 Razor
Advantages: Durable, economical, great quality
I have tried lots of razors on the market when there are special offers in the supermarket, however I always come back to the mach 3 after discovering how bad a shave I can get with other razors.
The Gillette mach 3 is a simpy designed razor. It may not look as fancy as others on the marrket, but in it's fairly minimal style it achieves it's purpose far better than other brands.
The razor consists of metal handle with rubber strips to provide a better grip. This handle has a mechanism for slotting and locking the replaceable blade into place.
The replaceable blade has 3 blades and a lubricating strip which fades as the blades wear out from green to white letting you know a new blade is needed.
The 3 blade design means that compared with a single blade less pressure is applied to the skin in a particular area. This means that skin irritation and razor burn (shaving rash) are less of a problem. The blades cut closely and move around your facial features well. When my girlfriend steals it for her legs I am also informed that the razor performs well there too.
I have very thick stubble and have found that using other razors, such as wilkinson models with wire guards, they block quickly and cannot be cleaned out. As blades are expensive this is an important factor to me and I find the mach 3 blade can last several weeks of daily shaving compared with generally just a few days with other brands.
The head of the razor tilts to help position the blades close to the skin and I find that a close shave is very easy to achieve using this razor.
The Mach 3 is very well made. I have never had one wear out quicker than I loose it or leave it in a hotel room.
The price of the Mach 3 can vary dramatically. Usually you buy a starter pack for around £6 which include 2 blades and then refill packs of blades which are in the region of £8 for 4 or £14 for 8. This is towards the expensive side of razors, but I have found due to how long the blades last it is far more economical to me than buying other brands or using disposable razors. It's currently £3.99 on amazon, and offers can often be found for the razor (although you will find the blades are very rarely reduced in any way)
The razor is good value if you have heavy chin growth and extremely well made. Highly recommended.
