Advantages: Easy to use, fairly close shave, quite gentle
Disadvantages: Doesn't give as close a shave as the original Venus
I've been mainly using hair removal creams recently and disposable razors when I don't have the time, but I decided to go back to shaving and invest in a decent razor, so I picked this one up in Morrisons for £7.15.
It comes in a plastic pack which is very easy to open as it has a perforated section on the back that just pulls off. In the pack you get the razor, a razor case and a blade. The shower pod sticks to a bathroom surface with 2 suction cups and has space inside to store 2 blades, and the razor clips into the outside. This is handy for storing the razor and blades but as with most things that use suction cups I find it comes unstuck after a while, so I don't stick it to the wall or it falls off into the bath and breaks into pieces.
The blades come in little plastic cases with peel-off lids and you just stick the razor handle into it until it clips in place then pull it out. The razor itself looks really nice, it's white with blue and purple bits on the handle. It has a button at the top of the handle that releases the blade when you need to replace it.
The blades are much larger than any razor I've used previously, not just because they have 5 blades, but because they have a 'protective ribbon of moisture' round the edge, which looks like blue plastic or rubber until it gets wet and the colour starts to fade.
The razor is really easy to use, the handle is comfortable to hold and easy to grip, and the blades glide over the skin smoothly, even over contours and difficult areas such as the knees and ankles. I'm pretty clumsy with razors but I've never managed to cut myself with this one yet. It is also gentle on my skin and doesn't leave me with as many razor bumps as others I've used.
I use this with the Gillette Satin Care Sensitive Shave Gel, which is the same one I've used for years, and whilst it does leave my legs feeling pretty smooth I seem to miss more hairs with this than other razors, and bizzarely it doesn't seem to give as close a shave as the original 3 blade Venus that I used years ago.
Overall it is a decent razor, but I've been a little disappointed that it didn't give a closer shave.
Summary: Decent but not the best
