Gillette Venus ProSkin MoistureRich Razor
Advantages: Smooth shaving, easy to use.
Disadvantages: Packaging a little misleading in regards to contents. Gel bars don't last as long as blades.
Since then, Gillette have introduced a few more razors to their Venus range and I have been quite happy with all of these, my last purchase being a Venus Embrace. I buy the replacement cartridges for these razors but now and then there will be a promotion for a new razor with a couple of cartridges included and it was one of these promotions which led to me buying my latest Venus razor: Venus ProSkin MoistureRich Razor.
Venus ProSkin MoistureRich Razor is designed with MoistureRich shave gel bars, which are enhanced with a triple blend of body butters for a comfortable shave. There is no need to use a separate shaving gel when using these razors, you just simply add water for a light lather on the gel bars and then shave as normal.
I purchased my razor recently in my local Morrisons supermarket where it was priced at £6 instead of £10. I liked the sound of the gel bars with body butter and was keen to try it out. Also not having to buy separate shaving gel saves money too.
The razor came with a shower hook which you can stick on to your tiles in your bathroom or in the shower. The front of the packaging stated " 3 blades and shave gel bars" in bold writing and this was where I made a mistake in thinking that this meant three replacement blade cartridges were actually included.
On opening the packaging, which is something I actually don't like about these razors (as it is impossible to open the packaging without hacking at the plastic with a pair of scissors I find) I found there were only two replacement cartridges inside. I picked up the razor, wondering if one was maybe already attached to the head, but there wasn't.
I was about to fire off an email to Proctor & Gamble who manufacture Gillette and complain, when on examining the packaging further I discovered in the bottom corner that the actual contents are 1 razor, 2 cartridges and a shower hook, but this was not in the same bold writing which was on the front in the middle of the packaging and certainly not the first thing you would notice on the packaging. Therefore I personally think the packaging is somewhat misleading, as you notice immediately the "3 blades and shave gel bars" wording and may not think that this is actually referring to the number of blades on the razor cartridge!
After looking at comments online on the Gillette website, it is plain to see I am not the only one who has fell for this misleading information and thought they were getting three blade cartridges when purchasing this razor and therefore I have written to the manufacturer in regards to this and suggested they maybe change their packaging information and design.
With that niggle out of the way, I found using the actual razor to be a good experience after my disappointment about the number of blade cartridges included.
Attaching a blade cartridge is easy, the cartridge simply clicks into place on this razor whilst still in its packaging, so you don't actually have to handle it at all. Once it is securely on the head of the razor you remove it from the packaging holding the handle of the razor. Changing the blade cartridge is simple too, it simply pulls off and then you repeat the process above, clicking the new one into place.
It felt strange not having to use a shaving gel, but as soon as I ran the gel bars under the shower and began using the razor on my legs I noticed it lathered up quite well and felt very soft and moisturising on my skin. It also made for an easier and faster shaving experience not having to mess around with shaving gel and the blades glide easily, providing a close, smooth shave just like I have came to expect when using a Venus razor. Indeed hair removal is quick, easy and smooth, unlike some razors I have used.
My legs feel silky smooth and shaving delicate areas such as under arms and bikini line pose no problems. There is no dragging or pulling on the hairs as this razor glides easily and smoothly over my skin. I was concerned that the gel bars may get in the way when trying to angle the razor, but I didn't experience any problems at all. The soft grip handle makes it easy and comfortable to hold too.
I usually find a blade cartridge lasts around a month for me personally and the only difference I found here was that although the actual blades still lasted a month, the gel bars did not, but instead of replacing the blade cartridge when the gel bars ran out, I carried on using my razor with shaving gel until the actual blades needed changing. The gel bars lasted me approx two weeks and I would have been happier if they had lasted longer, but overall I still got the same amount of use from the blades. There have been reports from some consumers about the gel bars falling off the razor but this has never happened to me.
I do like the addition of the gel bars as it does feel as if you have used a moituriser on your skin when you shave with these and my skin does feel wonderfully smooth, it is just as pity they do not last as long as the blades.
The 'MoistureRich' claim certainly does the trick and I am happy to continue using this razor. Gillette have came up with yet another quality razor, it is just a shame the packaging was a little misleading.
