Gillette Venus Vibrance Razor
Advantages: Pink, Easy to hold with wet hands, Lasts forever, takes Mach 3 Blades.
One of the unfortunate necessities of being a woman is the need/desire to have smooth underarms, legs and other areas. This can be achieved a number of ways via hair removal cream, waxing, epilating and shaving. My chosen method in the pursuit of smoothness is shaving. I choose this method as I am too wimpy for waxing and epilating and the chemical smell from hair removal creams is terrible. For many years I just nabbed my Husbands razor while in the shower/bath and set about the offending areas. Then one year a Gillette Venus Vibrance appeared in my birthday goody bag, I think my long suffering Husband had had enough of my blunting his blades.
The Venus Vibrance comes packaged in one of those annoying heat sealed plastic packages that can only be opened with the aid of sharp scissors, once into the packaging you are faced with a nice girly pink razor. I think the contrasting pinks would be described as Fuchsia and Baby Pink. The razor is rubberised in certain areas making it very easy to grip with wet soapy hands, the razor comes with a blade ready attached but when the blade does go blunt you can pop it off very easily and replace it with a new one, the replacement blades are sold at an extortionate price but I have found that mach 3 blades fit just as well, much to my poor Husbands dismay.
The Vibrance part of this razor comes into action when the little silver button is pressed at the end of the razor, this triggers a vibrating action through the razor, in theory this vibrating motion gently exfoliates the skin. Happily for me Gillette saw fit to provide an AAA Duracell battery with the razor, the battery is easy to fit, the end of the razor just twist off to reveal the battery slot. Pop the battery in the correct way around, fasten the razor back up and you're ready to vibrate. This is a feature I can honestly say I was not sold on, I did not enjoy the vibrating motion of the razor in my hand and it seemed to make no difference to the condition of my skin, the razor is very quiet when vibrating but at the time my children were of a inquisitive age and I was concerned that they might overhear mummy vibrating away in the bathroom. The Vibrance feature was not one I used much and I soon removed the battery and continued to use the razor as a standard razor.
The Venus Vibrance is a great shape for angling around awkward areas such as ankles and knees and I very rarely cut myself while shaving. The blades that go with this razor have moisture glide strips that provide a close, smooth shave. I have to admit that I use my Husbands Mach 3 blades on this razor now; they fit just as well as the Venus Vibrance ones. I don't store my razor on the storage thing that was included in the pack as I found it a bit pointless and it went in the bin ages ago.
I have had my Venus Vibrance for a very long time, it must be very nearly 10 years, during that time I have had the same handle but numerous replaceable blades (nearly got the Trigger broom joke in). The razor handle is still in fantastic condition, it has not deteriorated in any way and in all honesty I can not see any reason why it will not last me at least another ten years. I think the Vibrance feature is a bit pointless and the razor functions perfectly well without the battery. If for some reason the razor broke I would happily repurchase another. I give it 4 out of 5 stars, removing one for the completely useless vibrating part.
The Venus Vibrance is currently available on amazon.co.uk around £12, and due to its longevity I would say that it is well worth the price.
Thank you for reading.
Summary: An excellent razor that will probably outlive me.
