Advantages: Thick, lathers easily, skin friendly, good barrier against cuts, good value
Disadvantages: Dispenses a little too freely, packaging could be jazzed up a bit
I came across this shave gel a couple of weeks ago as it was on offer for £1 at Morrison's. I snapped it up as Nivea is such a trusted brand. Needless to say I was not disappointed.
Packaging
********
The blue and silver packaging is quite attractive and the dispensing button on the nozzle is nice and wide. However, and this is symptomatic of many shaving canisters, it is difficult to control the amount that dispenses, often resulting in unnecessary wastage.
Manufacturer's claims
******************
*Effective razor glide
*Close and extra gentle shave
*Helps protect against cuts and irritations
Performance
**********
I feel that all of Nivea's above claims are vindicated after using this product. The gel is nice and thick, yet it still lathers very easily. The firm barrier provided by the product certainly makes for effortless razoer glide and gave me more confidence in going for a closer shave. I have sometimes suffered from razor rash with other brands, but this was not so with this gel. In fact I was able to repeat the shave without any red blotches appearing. It felt as though my razor had been given extra lubrication as it skimmed with friction-free ease over my skin.
The product also has a pleasant and unobtrusive fragrance.
Nivea says it incorporates 'Ultraglide Technology' which, it claims, helps to improve the razor glide, and prevent the cuts and irritation. It is also dermatologically approved. I can vouch for all the above as any recent nicks and cuts have usually been down to me rushing the shave with a dodgy razor! The normal retail price for a 200ml can is a shade under £3 and, providing you can control the free-flowing dispenser, represents good value as it lasts a long time.
