For years I've been looking for the perfect hair removal method and recently I've been reading a lot about the benefits of sugaring, supposedly it gives better results than waxing with less pain to boot. So I decided to give it a go and bought the Sugar StripEase Kit for £12.99 off Amazon, but I've since found that it's also available in Boots.
It comes in a neatly sized little box which is just big enough to hold the pot, wax strips, spatulas and direction leaflet wihtout loads of extra space. The pot is made of a thick, sturdy plastic and the design is lovely. It comes with 15 strips, 2 large spatulas and one smaller one for small areas.
To use it you just need to heat it up in the microwave on low or medium setting for 60 seconds, and unlike waxes I've used in the past I find it does actually heat up to the right temperature in the specified time which is great. Always test a bit before using it to make sure it is the right temperature, you don't want to burn yourself, it should always be warm not hot. It smells really nice, as you would expect of warm sugar.
The method for applying the sugar solution is basically the same as using wax, smooth on a layer with the spatula then apply a wax strip, smooth down to make sure it's attached properly before ripping it off in the opposite direction to the hair growth. Well I found the sugar very easy to apply, much easier than wax, so I thought it was going to be quite quick and easy to do but I was very wrong! It is ver yeasy to use, but I needed to go over the same area loads of times as it didn't pick up all the hairs so I wasn't left with a smooth result, and this made it very time consuming indeed. It also meant that I used a lot of the sugar, I actually used half the pot just doing one half-leg, which means it works out a bit too expensive for my liking.
The good things about it are that it washes off very easily just with water and the strips are also washable and reusable so you don't need to keep re-buying strips. I also did find that it was less painful than waxing, in fact I didn't notice any pain at all, and I didn't get the usual lumps and red bumps afterwards like with waxing. I found the results did last well, although no longer than waxing, and the hairs grew back finer.
All in all I don't think I'd recommend this product because I don't think the results are really worth the time it takes to achieve them.
