Advantages: Longer lasting hair removal.
Disadvantages: Time and cost.
As with many of the other reviewers on here I am a BzzAgent and was recently asked if I wanted to take part in a trail for Veet, this was to trial their new Easywax product. Now I am a big chicken when it comes to pain of any kind and have not really given waxing a chance due to the notorious association with the pain of removing the strip and ripping the hair away. I do however adore a trial and seeing if products live up to their claims, so this was a double draw for me, I would get to see if waxing was as painful as it is portrayed and also the chance to trial and review the new product, I was on board!
Now I have previously tried to use a home wax solution at home when I was younger which sadly have left some ingrained memories, the first being the fact that my hair needed to be a grown to a good length prior to waxing, which meant a minimum of a few weeks growth! Now I do mind a little stubble but growing my legs until I feel that I should be popping a comb through them to keep the hair neat and tidy is a little to much for myself.
The second was simply the mess, I do not remember the brand but I had bought home wax strips as a teen and all I remember is following the instructions and when I pulled the the strip the hair remained where it was along with a lot of honey coloured wax, not exactly the desired outcome.
The last was simply pain, I remember pain trying to pull the strips off and then pain trying to scrub off the residue, as such I had not really given waxing much thought over shaving ever since.
WAXING VERSES SHAVING ....
So now I had agreed to take on the easy wax challenge I did give some thoughts to the benefits of waxing over shaving.
Pros - Waxing lasts a lot longer than shaving and the skin is smoother
Cons - Pain, waxing is messy, time consuming and I did read that because you pull the hair out of the follicle you are leaving yourself open to the possibility of infection.
A shared issue is the possibility of redness from the waxing or shaving burn from shaving.
MY KIT ....
I was very excited when my EasyWax arrived, the box was a really appealing pink and purple mix with the Veet logo in a very prominent location on the top left and on the right there was a graphic image of what the EasyWax applicator looks like on the bottom ½ of the box, which cuts off to reveal the actual applicator inside, which is really clever. Inside the box everything was packed in a plastic insert. The box contained :-
* The applicator
* Wax strips
* 4 wax remover wipes
* 1 EasyWax wax cartridge
* Stand for the applicator
BzzAgent also sent me a separate cartridge for underarm and bikini area.
The applicator looks like a large stick of deodorant to me, it is white with a pink lid and pink stripes down both side. The strips on the side appear to be made of a rubber so might be heat protected or anti slip, not 100% sure. There is also an inverted circle cut into both sides of the applicator embossed with the veet logo.
THE INSTRUCTIONS ....
The instructions to use the EasyWax say to :-
1 Insert the correct cartridge into the applicator
2 Plug the charger into the mains and into the side of the applicator
3 Place the applicator into the stand and allow to heat up for 20 minutes
4 After 20 minutes remove the applicator from the stand, remove the mains lead and lid of the applicator
5 Roll the top of the cartridge wheel forward, if it moved freely and wax appears then the wax is
heated enough to use, if not replace the lid, mains lead and reheat for a further 5-10 minutes until the
wheel moves freely.
6 Roll the applicator down the area you are waxing in the direction of the hair growth
7 Remove a wax strip and flatten down onto the waxed area in the direction of the hair growth, leaving
around 1cm free at the bottom of the strip
8 Hold the skin taught with one hand, with the other pull the strip away from the skin in the opposite
direction of the hair growth.
9 Repeat as required
10 Use one of the wipes provided to remove any wax remaining on your skin.
MY TRIAL ....
After waiting around 2 weeks for my fur ... sorry hair to grow out on my legs I was having very mixed feelings about how my trial was going to go, as I perused other BzzAgent reviews there were a few reviews that left me feeling a little apprehensive, I read some say the hair was not removed, some that claimed to have been bruised and one lady even claiming it removed skin .... eeeekk. Either way I had agreed to trial this product and quite frankly if I left the hair much longer I would have needed a trip to the hairdressers to get through it let alone a razor so I bit the bullet and got on with my trial.
Following the instructions I plugged the device in and waited for it to heat up, after 25 minutes I tried the wheel, however it was a little stiff so I left it for 35-40 minutes in the end till it was ready. The wax was not to hot and rolled onto my skin very easily, I followed the above instructions and applying the strip to the wax held my breath and pulled! It worked just fine! The hair removed very easily. I repeated the steps until I had completed my legs. There was a little pain but barely anything, I did need to leave the device plugged in or it kept loosing it's temp but that was fine, it did not appear to over heat the wax. There was a little bit of wax left on my legs but the wipes took this off no problem.
THE AFTER EFFECTS ....
Immediately after my legs were a little pink and tingly but not bad, I did get a couple of patches that were a little purple but they were ok within 48 hours. I did manage to miss a little section on the back of my legs but it was my first try.
Whilst this worked perfectly for me, it was quite slow to heat up and took ages to do wax both legs. I also really disliked waiting for my hair to grow so long and whilst I will continue to use this but I think mainly when I am going away and want my legs at their best. The only problems I did find with the kit was the lack of wax strips and wipes provided. I also think the kit is a little expensive for general use. Overall this has my thumbs up and I would happily give it 4 out of 4.
Summary: Fairly decent and it was easy to use.
