Advantages: Silky smooth.
Disadvantages: Only comes with one blade
I recently bought this razor due to a combination of being fed up of using disposable razors, having the Quattro recommended to me, and the fact that it has recently been on offer in a number of stores. The combination of those three factors meant that I picked up the razor for just under a fiver from my local Superdrugs about a month ago.
~~So what is it?~~
Well, simply, it's a razor with 4 blades and 2 conditioning strips. On the other end there is a bikini trimmer. A genius idea that helps save time in the shower. From what I could see in the shops there is a choice of two colours, green and purple. I own a lot of purple stuff, so naturally this is the one I picked up. In the packet I also got a battery and a little case thing. I've read other reviews that have stated that they got a thingy to attach it to the wall of the shower. I didn't have that, I had the little travel case instead. This could possibly be as it's leading up to holiday season???
~~So how does it work?~~
To use the razor, it is simply used as any other razor would be. The razor is pretty chunky and has ridges on the side for a good grip. Despite the conditioning strips I choose to also use shaving gel for sensitive skin. The combination of the strips, gel and the fact that I always moisturise after shaving means that my skin feels silky smooth after shaving. The blades give a really close finish that I was impressed with. :-D To give some sort of idea to how long this feeling lasts, I last shaved my legs a little over 24 hours ago and am just beginning to get a little stubbly feeling, but can't see any regrowth visibly.
So, the trimmer. The trimmer needs the AAA battery to work. The packaging claims that the razor is totally waterproof and can be used in the shower/bath despite the battery. Good news. In order to switch the trimmer on you simply press the button on the handle of the razor. When you're done, press the button again and it switches off. Simple. There is a protective cover over the trimmer which you can easily set to one of three settings depending on how close a trim you are after. A fourth option is to remove the cover and use the trimmer without it for an even closer finish. I personally think that setting two is about right, and that having the cover off completely for the 'close finish' just leaves things feeling a bit stubbly and not comfortable.
~~My Opinion~~
I have given the razor 4 stars. The only thing that really stops me giving it a 5/5 is the fact that it is really easy to accidently hit the button for the trimmer when shaving which makes the razor vibrate. Hasn't resulted in any accidents, but is a little annoying. The other thing that is mildly annoying is that the cover for the razor blade when not in use doesn't protect the top conditioning strip and I have found that this top strip wears away faster than the bottom one.
Overall though, a close smooth shave. Could probably be used without shaving foam/gel, but I choose to not do this. Once I discovered my ideal setting for the trimmer, I am pleased with how it works.
A good buy, especially as I bought it half price. Would recommend it to others, but try and catch it on offer. You only get one blade in the packet, and although the blades are long lasting, the fact you only get one is going to mean you are going to need to purchase blades some point soon after purchasing the razor itself.
Summary: Nice close shave leaving my legs silky smooth. Would recommend.
