My daughter has poke straight hair but that doesn't stop her from showing an interest in my GHD's so when I spotted these in the sales just after Christmas, I decided to pick them up for her birthday present.
I picked these up from Superdrug at a price of £2.99 which I thought was excellent, they are available from places such as Argos , Boots but prices can be as much as £20 so I would recommend shopping around before buying.
The straighteners come in a nice little pink presentation box which has a clear panel to the front so you can clearly see the straighteners inside. These are bright pink in colour with a little image if Hello Kitty on each side. On the top of the straighteners there is the on/off slide button and down the side of the straighteners there is a small black dial which operates how hot you would like these. At the side of this dial is a little red light which flashes when the straighteners have reached the desires temperature. When it comes to heating up, they take around two minutes which I think is acceptable however they do get really hot, up to around 200 degrees and its for this reason that they are kept in my room and Lauren isn't allowed to use them unless I am supervising her.
These are Nano straighteners which means that they are really small in comparison to my GHD's they measure just 15cm in length. They are really lightweight too and don't make my arm ache when using.
As an added bonus, these come with a three years guarantee.
The straighteners have ceramic plates which I like, I find these glide over my hair a lot easier than metal plate ones I have used in the past. I am actually really impressed with the quality of these straighteners, I have tried them on my hair (which is naturally curly and frizzy) and they have worked really well. don't get me wrong, they aren't in the league of my GHD's and I do have to section my hair more but I think they are ideal for someone with slightly wavy hair.
My daughter loves it when we play hairdressers and I do her hair for her, even though her hair is straight, it doesn't have much of a shine to it but I have found using these gives her hair a nice sheen. She also loves it when I curl her hair using them, being lightweight and small means I can hold them easily.
I would definitely recommend these and they get 5 out of 5 stars from me.
Thanks for reading.
I have struggled with many hair straightners in the past as I have very short hair, they just didn't straighten it very well or I ended up burning myself struggling to use them. I was recommended these by a friend and I have to say the size impressed me straight away. They aren't big and chunky like other straightners I like the slim design of the tongs.
They heated up really quickly and they were so easy to move about into the right position to catch the short pieces of hair that always seem to be re growing around my face area. For the first time I have completely straight hair and it stayed that way all night too, I have many compliments and I would never go back.
I use these too on my daughter hair to get the wispy bits around her neck and face as I feel more in control that with the other chunky ones I use with the rest of her hair.
I love the funky pink as it's very modern and makes them easier to find in my draw of all my other hair gadgets.
I would recommend these for short hair and as a finishing touch to longer hair, these would also good as a teenagers first pair as they are so easy and simple to use and very lightweight.
This is excellent value for money as I bought mine for just over £10.00 from Play.com with free delivery and this is just as good if not better than some higher priced ones I have bought in the past.
I use GHD's as mine and my partners main hair straighteners, but they are not great at getting to shorter areas of hair such as my fringe because of the size of the ceramic iron. I was after a mini pair of straighteners and bought these BaByliss 2856NAU from Asda for the bargain price of £10.
I have not owned any BaByliss straightener before, but thought that for £10 and the fact they were the exact size I was looking for I couldn't go far wrong. The straighteners come in a cardboard box with a transparent front panel so that you can see the product inside. They look very tiny and cute, almost toy like, Asda only had the hot pink colour (not very butch!) but they are also available in green, blue and deep purple. The colours are all metallic giving them a fun and funky feel. The size of the entire straightener is a mere 15 cm in length and up to a maximum of 2 cm width. The ceramic plate is where these are quite unique, the width is 1.4 cm and the length 6 cm, which is a lot slimmer than the standard 2.5 - 3 cm plates. This is one of the unique selling points for these mini straighteners, enabling you to style more tricky and shorter areas of hair as well as being aimed at the travel market.
The straighteners have two ceramic plates as you get with normal straighteners, which you grip together. There are two handy thumb grips on top and below the handles that make holding and controlling the straighteners very easy. These have a standard multi voltage for worldwide use that is plugged into the mains, this is about 1.5m in length a good size for a travel straightener. There is a simple slide on / off switch on the side of the straighteners, that feels a bit flaky. The straighteners can reach up to a maximum temperature of 200 °C, which is salon quality and they heat up pretty quickly, though not as fast as my GHD's but I wouldn't expect them to. After switching on I tend to wait about 25 seconds and then put them to use.
Neither myself or my partner use these instead of our larger straighteners, I would be there all day otherwise! They are really good on short bits of hair and I use them mainly on my fringe, they are exactly the right size to get right to the root of my hair. They glide smoothly over the hair and the plates fit very well together, you have to have a good grip to get them touching and tight for the best straight effect, but I find this with most straighteners. They leave a lovely smooth gloss over my hair and a nice finish.
There are no added special features with these such as a noise alerting you to when they are at the optimum temperature, nor do they have a safety cut off timer like some straighteners which I always have a bit of a panic about, but those are my only gripes with these!
3 year guarantee included from BaByliss.
A great value for money, useful and handy sized hair straighteners, for £10 these are a steal and I would recommend them for people with shorter hair and for stylists on the go! Available online at shops such as Amazon and on the high street at Boots, Asda etc. for about the ten pound mark.
I am a man and I usually shave my hair but I have been on occasion been known to let it grow out. As my hair is frizzy and curly and as embarrassing as it is to admit I do straighten it so that I am able to spike it up and have a modern funky style as opposed to greasing it to my head to keep it in place. I have some large straighteners which are fine and good but when your hair is short it can be difficult to get the straighteners through your hair without actually burning your scalp. When I saw these Babyliss nano straighteners in boots they looked absolutely ideal for my short hair.
These straighteners are absolutely tiny and actually look a bit toy like when you first see them due to not only their small size but also because of their bright metallic colours.
Luckily when you get them out of the box they are much more solid and hard wearing than they first appear and are great for shoving in weekend bags, suitcases etc. and can take a lot of abuse without breaking.
I have them in a sort of lime green but they can also be bought in blue, pink and purple.
Although they are really small and compact they are surprisingly comfortable to hold and grip together. I have used cheap hair straighteners before and they were difficult to get both sides to join together snugly so that the hair was completely in between the ceramic plates. With these ones I have no trouble getting even the shortest section of my hair straight.
They have ceramic heating plates just like their big brothers and this is because ceramic can get very hot and also because it is less harsh on the hair and doesn't burn it like some other materials. There is no temperature controls on the straighteners and only an on/off switch. The straighteners take no time at all in getting hot and after only about 30 seconds or so they are ready to use. The temperature they reach is 200 degrees Celsius which is just below what some bigger more expensive ones get to and I find that it is more than hot enough to get even my frizziest and curliest sections of hair poker straight and spiky.
They also go through my hair really smoothly and they don't get caught on my hair and pull it like some other straighteners I have used do.
A word of warning with these straighteners is that the whole unit including the handles get really hot so you need to be careful with how you hold them. You can't just wrap your hands around them or else you will get burnt but they do have little rubber pads which stop you from getting burnt and these are positioned really well in a way that makes them comfortable to hold even for long periods of time.
These would only really be practical for short hairstyles due to their small size. I am sure that you would be able to use them to straighten long hair too but it would take absolutely ages. For me they are the perfect size for being able to make sure that I can easily reach even the shortest sections of my hair.
I also think they are ideal for taking away on holidays etc. and take up so little room in a suitcase. In fact the cord and plug take up more room than these little straighteners do. They are also dual voltage so you can take them abroad with you knowing that they will work fine.
I bought these little straighteners from Boots and they cost me £14.99 which I think is a great price for them. They work amazingly well which considering how small they are is a miracle in itself as a lot of miniature products are nowhere near as good as their larger counterparts. With these I can honestly say they not only look good but they work better than most larger straighteners on short hair. Again though I am recommending these on the basis of having short hair as I don't think they would be so effective on longer hair.
