Carmen Slimline 230 Hair Straighteners
Advantages: Do work but it is hard work, low cost
Disadvantages: Not good with largeer sections of hair, need to go over hair a couple of times
If there is one item that I would not like to be without it is my trusted hair straighteners so when my lovely GHD's gave up on me a couple of months ago, panic mode set in! They had been my faithful friend for over 3 years and so I soon set about getting a replacement, that was until I saw that the price had gone up and with a couple of weeks to pay day I was then tasked with finding some more and with an Argos gift card I soon started flicking through the pages and spotted the Carmen Slim Line 230 Hair straighteners.
I opted to get these for a couple of reasons, in the past I had some Carmen heated rollers and they had been really good in my hair. I have also opted for the low price of the product. They cost me £21.99. At this price I knew that they perhaps were not going to be the greatest, after all I was used to the GHD brand which is amazing but needs must and I needed something that would attempt to iron the kinks out of my hair. The hair straighteners can be found in a number of different shops, as I mentioned, I got mine in Argos but places like Boots also sell them as well as online retailers.
The hair straighteners came packaged in a cardboard box and once opened I saw that they had a black electrical lead on them as well as a black body and handle. The straightening irons were made from a brushed chrome metal. I guess I was quite impressed with the look and the design, especially due to the lower cost. There was an instruction book that came with them as well as a one year guarantee. There is the name of the product on the plates, there is also an on / off indicator light and a temperature control button. There are two temperatures that the product can reach. The temperature control was something that I was not really used to as the GHD's do not have this feature.
The top temperature that the straighteners can reach is 230C and this is similar to my old GHD's so I was keen to set it at this highest point and see how I got on. There is 180xm of electrical cord so I plugged them in and was able to stand in front of my mirror and get going! The temperature is reached within about 30 seconds which is great and I could feel the warmth coming from the plates quite quickly. I must point out that I felt safe using these, being careful you should not get any sort of burn or knock yourself on them. My hair sat between the ceramic plates and I was soon straightening!
The hair straighteners were good but I have to say they were not fantastic. The trouble for me was whilst they did work, I needed to run the ceramic plates over the sections of hair at least a couple of times. This for me made it a more timely exercise and not one that I was used to. I also found that due to the slightly curved plates my hair was either flicking one way on the one side of my head and flicker the other way on the other side! Yes, these do work but they are not at the efficiency that I would liked to have seen.
I think the longer you are putting your hair under the heat, the worse it gets and as my hair was being run through more than twice then it was not good. Also the product could only cope with a small section of hair at a time going through it so again, it is a lengthily process.
In summary, whilst these did get my frizzy hair tame and helped me to get it straight, I was not impressed by the time it took and that it was not good having so much heat on my hair.
A generous 3 out of 5 from me on these
Thank you for reading
