Advantages: Smooth, straight and sleek hair... ALL DAY!

Disadvantages: Very expensive for a straightener!

For ages now, I've always thought GHD's to be very overpriced. I used the Babyliss Pro 230'C ones for ages, and they did the job fine.

However I was in a shop one day and I saw a display model of the purple GHD's. My favourite colour is purple, and I was immediately drawn to them. They have a gorgeous slightly silvered swirly pattern on them, and they seemed so light! I immediately put them out of my mind, I'm sure the purple GHD set was about £150 and there was no way I was going to pay that much for a pair of straighteners.

To my delight I recieved the GHD Purple IV Limited Edition Hair Styler for Christmas!

Product Features:
- GHD purple is a beautifully wrapped gift set containing limited edition purple GHD IV styler, GHD travel hairdryer, heat resistant purple GHD roll bag and 2 GHD sectioning clips
- Improved temperature control for even better styling, perfect for creating tight curls, flicks and waves as well as the perfect straight
- New sleep mode safely turns the heaters off of GHD Purple styler if left unattended for 30 minutes
- Limited edition purple GHD IV styler has advanced ceramic heaters for even heat
- GHD travel hairdryer also have folding handle for compact packing and air concentrator nozzle for styling control

My own experience:
It came in a gorgeous purple box, the lid was a purple velvet material, it is rather luxurious. In the box was a purple with a handle. When you opened the bag it rolled out to reveal 2 zipped pouches, a compartment with hair grips in and a thicker part acting as a heat mat. In one of the zipped pouches is the styler, in the other is the travel hair dryer. It's pretty standard issue and doesn't look anything special, but it folds up so will be great to take on holidays, but I wouldn't use it as my main dryer. In the bag were the usual manuals and a DVD. I haven't actually gotten around to watching the DVD yet but I've heard it gives demonstrations on using the styler to curl your hair etc.

Onto the styler itself, I plugged it in, and switched on the little switch and a red light came on and it beeped at me. The switch means you don't have to unplug your straighteners if you don't want to. I waited for it to heat up but less than half a minute later it beeped at me again saying it was ready to use! I didn't believe it so warily touched it.... oh yes, it was hot! I set to work on my hair and I was amazed with the results. The styler glided through my hair without snagging it, and my usually thin, flyaway frizzy hair suddenly began smooth, sleek and straight. At first I thought my hair was TOO straight, but I was used to using my old hair straighteners, you don't need to clamp down on your hair with these!

The thing I love most is it doesn't take long at all to straighten my hair, and they are so light. My old straighteners were rather bulky but these are very light and sleek, and quite importantly, you don't burn your hands off holding them. Because they are so light I find them very easy to manage, especially around the back of your head! With the IV styler I alwys feel more confident that the back of my hair is straight, as it does a great job. The styler has a lovely rounded barrel so with practice you can do curls and waves, a quick search on YouTube brings up videos on how to curl your hair using a rounded barrel straightener!

Usually with other straighteners my hair would start going wavy and frizzy again during the day, or would be extremely static. I used to straighten my hair then tie it in a ponytail for work because my hair would just get on my nerves later in the day. Now however I straighten my hair in record time on those early mornings, and my hair stays smooth, straight and sleek ALL day!

The style has a 30 minute shut off feature, which will be great for those days when you've left the house and suddenly during the day you have that nerving feeling that you have forgotten to turn your straighteners off.

According to GHD the IV hair styler is suitable for all hair types except very thick hair. GHD recommend using the IV Salon styler for very thick hair.

To anyone wanting to buy GHD's please don't buy them from eBay. Most of the ones on eBay are fake. If you go to GHD's official website they can give you websites that sell official GHD's so you're safe in the knowledge you're getting the real thing.
These purple ones are limited edition, but they do bring out other 'limited edition' versions throughout the year, or you can settle for a normal one. The normal GHD IV styler is £107 on Amazon, I would recommend looking around the official sellers for the cheapest deal. I registered my styler on the official website by entering the code beneath the hologram, very easy to do. The styler also comes with a 2 year warranty, which hopefully I won't need to use, and one year one these are still working brilliantly.

If you're using the styler I highly recommend you buy a heat protection spray. Using any styling products on your hair will slowly damage your hair after time, especially when using these hot straighteners.

Now I have these GHD's I'm never going back to another brand, they are just excellent.

Summary: Gorgeous hair... at a price.
