There are tons of hair straighteners on the market these days and GHD are definitely at the top, I wouldn't try any other brand nowadays. They are at the higher priced end of the market at about the £100 mark but they are well worth the money, I have had mine for over five years and they are still going strong. All I have had to do to them over that time is change the fuse once. You kind occasionally buy them on special offer, when I bought mine they came with a free GHD shampoo and conditioner.
The straighteners themselves are black in colour, you can also buy other colours these days, with gold text and plates. They are lightweight and very easy to transport.
The straighteners take seconds to heat up, you know they are ready to use when they beep and the red light starts to flash. They glide easily through the hair and don't tug or pull at any point, like some cheaper brands do. They are perfect for straightening but also produce lovely long lasting girls. There are videos on youtube that show you how to achieve these.
I have used these every day and have never felt like they have caused any damage to my hair. The straighten hair quick and easily, I never spend longer than two to three minutes using them. They always leave it looking shiny and friz free,
You never have to worry about forgetting to switch them off as they have an auto shut off system when they haven't been used for a period of time.
If your a frequent hair straightener user this product is for you, the saying buy cheap buy twice applies in the hair straighter world. I wouldn't recommend any other product.
I have tried many different brands of hair straighteners but nothing beats a ghd. I for me they straighten your hair the fastest they heat to a great temperature. They take out all the frizz and fuzz, leaving your hair silly and smooth. They also make great curls that last and hold their bounce . they're light weight and the travel bags and accessories and heat mats you get with them are brilliant. Definitely worth the price I have had mine for probably over 4 years with no breakages or problems and dread to see the day they give up on me. I Love them and would highly recommend them to anyone that likes straight or curly / wavey hair. All my friends also have them and be they would never choose another hair straightener brand, and my hair salon uses them also, which I think prows just how amazing and trustworthy they are. Go quick and buy them you wot be disappointed!
These straightners are absolutely amazing. I got an old pair from salon services and they lasted me a good while but they fell apart and melted my hair in the end. So my father gave and bought these for me they cost around £120 but they are worth every penny. They give such a smooth finish and they heat up so quickly. What i love the most is that when you accidently leave them on they switch off if they haven't been touched in around 20-30 minutes, i would panic all day if i thought i left them on so this is a bit of security. They really are so professional and you can curl your hair and everything with ease. They are really comfy to use in your hand, and you can't feel the heat in the handle either which is brilliant. They are the best straightners on the market in my opinion and its worth the money spent.
I have been using hair straighteners to tame the mane for many years. I started with cheap pair but once you have tried GHD's it is hard to go back. It takes half the time and results stay until I next wash my hair without having to re-straighten. Although they are an expensive item, if you straighten your hair regularly it is money well spent as the quality is so much better. I use mine all the time and now couldn't live without them. I would struggle to buy another straightener and wouldn't hesitate to recommend a pair of GHDs. they usually come with a two year guarantee and last many years. I have had 2 sets in the last 10 years and the second pair are still going strong! I first bought the largest style to cut time straightening but now have a thinner pair as they are more versatile with other style like curls.
In my opinion I have got to say these GHD hair straighteners are the best I have ever come across and used. I have tried several other branded hair straighteners over the years and nothing comes as good as these. I have got quite long hair and it takes around 10 minutes to do it with thees GHD straightener compared to other brands that took ages and the finished result was never as good! These GHDs take around 30 seconds to heat up so there is no waiting about and it also bleeps to let you know its ready to use. It leaves my hair very straight, soft and shiny all day! Its also got auto shut off so if you are in a rush and forget to switch them off it shuts off after around 30 minutes. Its slim, light weight and small enough to pack and take traveling with you. Fantastic and I love them!
I have been using this straighteners for 3 years now in place of my cheap high street purchased pair and I have to say they have exceeded my high expectations. I was using them every day to straighten out my crazy bed hair, and once straightened they hold all day long which is a lot better than my cheap pair which I often found did not hold and I had to re-straighten my hair part way through the day. Although GHD straighteners are not cheap they are well worth the money and they last. I would not think twice about purchasing another pair of GHD's or recommending them to anyone that is interested in listening. The only thing I can guarantee is that once you have tried these you will not want to return to the straightening iron you were using before. They often come with a warranty usually of 2 years.
I have owned my pair of GHDs for four years now and in that time I have not picked up a single hair styling tool other than my GHDs. They are perfect for not only straightening hair, but also for creating soft curls or beachy waves.
CURL: clamp straighteners at the roots, twist upwards, turning them up and in towards your head, hold for a few seconds and then slowly glide them down the hair and you're left with a nice, bouncy curl.
WAVE: start as though you're going to do a curl but instead of gliding the whole way down the hair, move down in sections, alternating twists up and in towards the head with twists under and in towards the head. Do this three or four times depending on hair length and you've created really pretty waves.
STRAIGHT: If you're going down the conventional route, simply glide the straighteners through the hair an you're left with straight, sleek hair.
To turn on the GHDs, you plug them in and on the inside of the styler, there is a little sliding switch.
When you turn the straighteners on, a light will come on on the inside of the styler, the GHDs will heat up for a few seconds and a beep will sound and the light will begin to flash. This is when the straighteners are ready to be used.
They do get very hot to achieve the best results possible but they also cool down extremely quickly.
They come with a heat mat so that you aren't putting them on a surface which may get damaged by the heat too.
I would recommend using their heat protectant spray with the straighteners also as it helps to keep your hair in the best condition.
After four years with the same pair, they also last for a really long time so it's definitely an investment worth making.
I know I would never be without mine now and give them the big thumbs up.
I purchased these god straighteners thinking they were going to be a hype and no better than any other high street purchased pair, I was so wrong from the first time i tried them I noticed the difference, they heat up instantly and alert you when they are ready for use, they glide through the hair with ease and left my hair straight, shiny and static free. I also have used them to practice curling my hair and this is very easy also. My daughter has just started hairdressing college and I have purchased a second pair for her, she also says they are easy to use and very practical as they replace curlers and she only has to take one item with her. I have found my hair to be in better condition since using these and can justify the higher price tag for the quality of the product.
I got these straighteners for Christmas and I was so pleased as i had always wanted a pair of ghds. They have exceeded my expectations. They make my hair so smooth and sleek. I have very thin hair and these work great with it. Would I recommended? Without a doubt. Great gift! I will most certainly purchase another pair of ghds in the future and maybe buy someone else as a gift. Now they are abit pricey that's the only problem with these. But then again in my eyes they are worth the price for the overall effect you have from them. They look stylish and they defo live up to the ghd name. Best straighteners around by far! I have recommended to all my friends. I like the fact they are not clumpy and wide as my hair is so thin. Not sure how they would work with thick hair. Thanks for reading
Fantastic hair straighteners! I have thick, wavy, frizzy hair and GHDs have so far proven to be the best for making my hair straight and smooth, and in the quickest time. This is probably due to the high temperatures they reach and the smoothness of the plates.
These straighteners are also great for curling hair. As they have rounded plates, and a swivel cord which allows you to move the straighteners around with ease and without getting tangled.
The straighteners heat up extremely quickly, so no need to wait 10 minutes until you can start. And to make sure you know they are hot enough to use they beep when they reach an optimum temperature. Plus, you can have straight hair on holiday, as they have a travel plug fitted inside the mains plug, which can be easily accessed with a screw driver!
They are also fitted with safety features, which I have found useful on many occasions. There is a red light which flashes when the straighteners are on, and the straighteners have a cut off switch inside. So if you have not used them for more than 30minutes they turn off by themselves, and they do not turn on in temperatures less than 5 degrees Celsius (I have never personally seen this feature, as I have never been in a room that cold).
The only problem I have had with these straighteners is I have taken a pair on holiday with me, and even though the wattage and volts were compatible with the mains plug, part of the memory board inside stopped working and one ceramic plate would not heat up. However, when I contacted GHD about this, because it was still within the two year warrantee, they assessed my straighteners, told me it was a fault, and sent a brand new pair out to me. So you even get great customer service if needed!
Before this incident I had a pair of GHD's similar to the IV pair for 7 years, which got used nearly every day! This shows how much I love the GHD straighteners, and how durable they can be!
I absolutely am in love with the GHD hair straightener because not only can you straighten your hair to perfection but because of the smooth rounded edges you can use it as a hair curler as well for them big runway model looking curls, it is a fabulous product and heats up within seconds, i would absolutely recommend this product and anything from the GHD brand. I find that with other hair straighteners they take to long to heat up and not everyone can afford to spend hours getting their hair looking so shiny and full like a professional can make it look, and sometimes your hair can get caught or burn easily, so far i have no problems at all with this amazing hair straightener, my hair seem a lot healthier as well probably because i am not singeing it off with my hair straightener anymore, the GHD always gives me a professional quality look that i see in magazines and on the television.
I have had these for well over a year. They manage to straighten my frizzy, thick, long hair every time. Quick to heat up and very easy to use, they heat up very quickly. I would highly recommend these to anyone looking for hair straighteners. GHDs are very popular and before owning them I could never see why, now I own a pair I am totally converted! GHDs are also very useful for creating flicks and waves in your hair if you turn the straighteners the other way.
I think this product is within the top three hair styles that are out at the moment.
It heats up really well, and you don't have to go over what you already did as the style really stays in. It makes your hair feel smooth, and GHD also provide products such as heat protecting spray to get the best out of the styler.
I first bought a GHD iron ten years ago roughly. They lasted me seven years, and I had to throw them as they blew up. The next iron I bought, which was this one, blew up after a year, apparently a common fault with the batch that mine came from. I can't say it is a bad product because it isn't, and I'm sure they have sorted the fault out, but make sure you get a warranty.
Overall, I would recommend this product to a friend but I would warn them of the blowing up first and warn them to make sure they got a warranty.
The product I will be reviewing this time is the GHD IV Styler. I brought my latest pair around Christmas time last year, and to this date there still going strong. I brought the Scarlet box set which included a set of black and red straighteners, a red clutch bag, doubling as a heat protector and a GHD branded hairdryer. This was around the £150 mark but I believe you can get just the styler for about £90
Lets get down to the technical stuff. To start these straighteners have many practical features- firstly the automatic power off function or sleep mode as its more commonly known, has im sure been a life saver for many people. If your anything like me, when leaving the house or once finished doing my hair the question that goes round my head is 'did I leave my straighteners on?!' these straighteners will automatically turn off if left unattended for 30 minutes. This was luckily the case for me one time, when leaving the house, I came back hours later and randomly kept hearing these beeps every 5 minutes or so. Unaware this was the power off function calling out for me to turn them off. My house is all intact thanks to this! Similar to this feature it also has what is known as the 'shiver mode'. This will turn your straighteners off if the temperature drops less than 8°C, to protect itself from damage.
The styler is attached using a swivel cord, this I think is a perfect design feature. This prevents the cord from becoming twisted and the wires inside becoming entangled. Many hair dryers and other styling products should use this feature!! My wires are forever getting twisted and break because of this. My straighteners also have the universal plug, making it easy to remove the plug casing for traveling. However on the newer stylers I think the plug has changed, so it all depends how recently you've purchased them.
As you can imagine there is a lot of fake GHD stylers around, coming from illegitimate websites. I would say if you were thinking of purchasing these, make sure that the website you are using is registered as a genuine GHD distributer. However if you have made a purchase and are unsure, the stylers contain a hologram-one on the inside of the straightener, and one on the plug. Or you can go on the GHD website and type in your styler code, which is next to the hologram and it will be able to verify for you on there if they are legitimate.
Now for the girly bit- The Styling!!
When I purchased my first pair of GHD's I intended to use them purely for straightening my hair, I was unaware they were able to do anything else! Now im amazed with all the different styles you can create. From curls to waves and flicks, there's so many options. You can have a different look everyday! As I mentioned I didn't have the first idea how to create any of these looks, so I went onto Youtube, and there is thousands of tutorial videos on there, showing you how to create all these styles. However you may not need to do this, as included in some of the newer stylers you receive an instructional dvd, with professionals showing you how to produce each look. If you are buying them simply to straighten then I would say these are the best on the market. I have naturally very wavy hair which tends not to stay in one style for any length of time. Upon using these I was amazed at how quick, and just how straight it was. My hair now stays straight all day with the help of a little dash of hairspray.
Not only will you look good but the GHD team have worked on the ceramic plates meaning your hair will feel good too. The new ceramic heater technology helps keep your hair looking shiny and feeling soft and smooth. The ceramic plates also have a bouncy feel to them, this is too ensure that you get even distribution, reducing any damage caused to your hair. The styler operates at between 175-185°C, so I would always advise using a heat protector spray before using, just to be extra kind to your hair.
If planning on using hair products (which most people do) then every so often you will need to clean your styler. To do this always make sure they are switched off and cool. The get a clean damp cloth and wipe over the plates, this will ensure that all excess product is removed.
Iv probably rambled on about these for abit to long so sorry if iv bored anyone! Just one last thing to know, with everyset of GHD straighteners you receive a 2 year warranty. If the fault was your own as to why the styler broke, they will still fix them for you if they can for a small fee. I found this very reassuring to know.
To round up, I would say this styler is one of the best around. You get a curling iron, a straightener and wand all in one. I would say this product is brilliant value for money at just £90 for the styler you can get years of use out of them if handled and looked after correctly. Also with lots of safety features. You really cant go wrong if you purchase this. I would recommend to anyone that doesn't already have one!
I have used GHD for about 4 years now and, i think they are amazing, they heat up very quickly, i never had a probem with them, but dont wrap the wire around the ghd when not in use this can cause the hair straighterners to stop working as the cable inside gets twisted and this causes a blockage on the cables and they just end up turning them self off so dont ever wrap the wire round the ghd , there are a ot of fake ghd out there , i know real GHD are expsnsive they are sure worth the money and most places its under warrenty for 3 years or so i have the green GHD that are limited edition and they cost me around £120 but i have had them for 3 years now. And still as good as new, you can also curl your hair with GHD and i must admitt it is actually a good curl , but all in all i highly recommend. :) i would be lost with out them
