Disadvantages: Expensive, hard to curl with large size model
- Why I Bought -
I purchased my second pair of GHD straighteners a few months ago. I bought my first when I was 16 and they were like no other brand of straighteners I had tried before. I have long fly away hair and most straighteners make my hair static but not the GHDs. They give you silky smooth, straight hair in minutes and I don't even need to re-straighten my hair the next day. Unfortunately after 9 years together my beloved straighteners were stolen recently. I wasted no time in ordering a new pair of GHD IV Stylers from Amazon.
- The Brand and Product -
GHD stands for Good Hair Day. You can only buy GHD products online or through hair salons rather than in high street shops. You can check if your GHDs are genuine because they will have a hologram label on the straighteners. The GHD IV Stylers come in three different sizes. I purchased the largest size. The cord is 2.8m long and has a swivel feature. The plates are ceramic and take 30 seconds to reach the correct temperature. A red light on the straighteners will flash when the straighteners are ready to use. There is also a sleep mode so if the straighteners are left on without being used for a certain length of time they will turn off automatically. Sometimes GHD straighteners come with accessories but mine didn't so it is worth checking when you purchase.
- Using the GHDs -
I love the way my hair looks and feels after being straightened with GHDs. They don't make my hair static or give me split ends. The large size plates that my straighteners have make straightening even quicker and they work well on thick and/or frizzy hair. The cord is long and the swivel feature means you can walk around a bit while straightening and makes it easy to transfer the straighteners from one hand to the other to straighten different sides. They heat up really fast, something I appreciate even more recently as I now have a baby and therefore little time to make myself look presentable. I have never actually left my straighteners on by mistake as I always switch them off at the wall socket, but I imagine the sleep mode would be useful for some people. The large plate model that I chose has the disadvantage that you can't use the straighteners to curl your hair very easily because the ceramic plates are wide. People are often saying they use their straighteners for this purpose and from what I have seen this gives a really nice gentle curl look.
- Price and Availability -
I paid £80 my GHDs on Amazon which I think is a good price, especially considering they are £99 on the official GHD website. It does sound like a lot of money when you can buy straighteners for as little as £20 but I believe this is a true example of when you need to pay for quality.
- Would I Recommend? -
A pricey hair accessory but to me it is an essential item and well worth the money so I would definitely recommend these and if anything ever happens to mine I will definitely replace them again.
Summary: Fabulous product and well worth the price
