Great pair of straighteners - a tad pricey but definitely worth it.

I've used hair straighteners for about 12 years now. I bought my first pair of GHDs about 8 years ago and I have to say that now, I would never ever buy any other brand. When my first pair of GHDs gave up the ghost earlier this year I was devastated. I toyed with the idea of replacing them with a different, cheaper brand of ceramic straighteners because at over £100 GHDs are pricey. I tried out friends' straighteners and I read review after review, but in the end I purchased a pair of GHD scarlet styler -and thank goodness! They are simply the best and no other ones come close.

I can straighten my long, naturally thick, naturally curly hair in less than ten minutes. And it's poker straight and stays that way!

They are nice and light to work with and they always leave my hair looking silky and smooth.
The narrower ceramic irons mean that you can easily straighten your fringe too (this can sometimes be difficult if you use the fatter irons).

You can use them to curl your hair too, my friend who has naturally straight hair often borrows them before a night out, with great results!

Lastly, they are a really lovely looking set with scarlet ceramic plates, and they came with a really handy heat resistant bag that comes in really useful.

I only hope they last as long as my last set did!

      Good

Until last year I had never owned a pair of GHD straighteners. They are expensive but definately worth the cost. This is a lovely set. The straighteners had red ceramic plates and a red heat protective bag with clips. I have very thick hair and it gets very frizzy after washing. These straighteners work really well with my hair. I find that once I've straightened my hair once I can usually get away with not doing it again until I wash it. I do not have polka straight hair everyday, obviously to get this affect I would need to do it daily. It just keeps my hair from getting big and frizzy.

They heat up within 30 seconds to 230 degrees. They shut off automatically after an hour, so if you are forgetful like me this is a big plus. Stops me worrying when I'm at work. They are very good straighteners and you can get them in different colours. My set also came with a travel hair dryer in a lovely red box. This is of course extra cost but its a good dryer. Not as powerful as normal dryers as its a travel hair dryer. But its handy to have of course.

Really great straighteners, attractive, good quality and easy to use

I have owned these straighteners for around a year now and would not look to purchase any other brand. Although I use them quite frequently they have lasted extremely well and I do not expect to have to purchase new ones for a good while.

They are really lovely to use, they glide across the hair with ease and leave it feeling silky and smooth. When I first started using them they were slightly sticky feeling and didn't straighten as easily as I had expected after previous experience with GHDs, however this wore away and now they straighten very easily.

They come with a heatproof mat which can be attached and detached from the bag which is extremely useful for travelling. They also come with clips to separate hair whilst straightening however these aren't very strong so I use my own instead.

The straighteners and bag are also very attractive and the red colour makes them stand out from other straighteners on the market.

When I first started to use GHD straighteners about ten years ago it seemed like they actually made GHD's to last. I think my first pair lasted me about seven years, and my second pair only lasted three. Having naturally thick and wavy hair, I do need a decent pair of hair straighteners to be able to control it and the ceramic plate allows that I get minimal damage in comparison to some straighteners I have used in the past which literally pull your hair straight (and out!). Anyway to cut a long story short, the plate on my second pair of GHD's somehow came unattached from the body of the straighteners and would dangle down! Not very safe and not very easy to use! I had some money put aside that I hadn't used from Christmas and decided I really needed to buy some new straighteners. I had previously just bought the standard pairs but when I realised I could get a limited edition pair for not that much more (only around £10/£15 I think), I decided to opt for these.

I liked the idea of the Scarlet ones as on the GHD website it sold me a story rather than just a pair of straighteners....... "In Scarlet's world, every day is a party, so turn up the jazz, kick off your heels and get ready to relive the roaring 20s. Get a wiggle on though, Scarlet's a flighty little flapper and she won't be around for long. "Can't repeat the past?... Why of course you can!" Jay Gatsby, The Great Gatsby - F. Scott Fitzgerald". http://www.ghdhair.com/limited-edition-ghds/ghd-scarlet-collection. Although this is an obvious marketing ploy, I quite like the idea they are selling and of course they looked lovely too. At £129 I would get straighteners, a cute little red clutch vanity to case to put the straighteners in (perfect for trips away but I use them too often to be putting them away in a bag all the time), 2 x sectioning clips and a protective plate guard which slips over the top of the straighteners.

The 2 manufacturers guarantee allows piece of mind, although I have always had no problem within this time period to ever use the guarantee. The sleek design of the straighteners allows that they are so easy to hold and work with. Perhaps it is because it is the only brand I use and I use them every day that I find them so easy but they feel right in the hand and the weight of them is perfect.

I only realised a couple of years ago that you can also use straighteners to curl! That's what you get for not reading the manual! I use curling tongs or a wand if I want perfect curls but I often flick my hair around the edge near my face (very Farrah Fawcett!), and the GHD's are perfect for this as the barrel is ever so slightly rounded around the edge. As my hair has got longer, I always expected that I wouldn't be able to continue with the mid-size GHD's and would need to go for the wide paddle but this isn't the case and it suits all length of hair (my husband even straightens his sometimes - he's very girly!).

The use of ceramic in the straighteners gives a shiny and smooth finish and they are famous for the 'snag-free' styling which came as standard with straighteners before ceramic. A handy sleep mode will turn the straighteners off if they are not in use for 30 minutes but the thought that this would ever be needed fills me with horror! With two inquisitive young girls, I always make sure my GHD's are unplugged and put away after each use and so I would never need this function, but it is still handy none the less. A universal voltage means straighteners can be used wherever you travel and this is a massive factor for me! Given the high voltage that some of these stylers use, and give my thick hair, when I travel to hot country's I have to know my straighteners are going to work! Although I haven't travelled with the Scarlet, I did take my previous GHD's to Egypt and the Dominican Republic (both of which use lower voltage and so electrical items such as these don't always work), and they worked!

For anyone looking to buy the Scarlet, the only thing I will say is that this model is literally the classic gold styler with a pretty casing and bag: it doesn't hold any extra features. Looks wise the Scarlet is lovely and the ceramic plate is a bright shiny red, the GHD writing is red rather than gold and it has shiny black dots working its way up the styler over the matt black. If you are looking for a pair of GHDs that look a little different, then these are for you. RRP £129.
