My daughter has some Nicky Clarke hair straighteners which I bought for her and me to use about 15 months ago. Previous to this she did have GHD straighteners. Unfortunately they were 2nd hand...and they broke! I have noticed that she had been using the ones I got us quite alot and would often take them with her when she wasn't with me....meaning I couldn't use them of course.
I hadn't been bothering that much with my hair but knew it desperately needed to be cut and styled. I was fortunate in that my partner treated me to a hair cut and highlights for my birthday a while ago. When it was being blow dried, it turned out well and the stylist straightened it a little bit. It was at this time that I thought to myself I want hair straighteners again!! The problem is, my hair is sort of wavy and thick... I also am useless at blow drying my own hair!! so I get really frustrated when I want it in a certain style and it doesn't turn out that way.
I know that using straighteners on a regular basis certainly isn't good for the hair; even my daughter has cut down on usage lately... they can make your hair brittle, too dry and result in more spilt ends.
I coudn't remember how much the Nicky Clarke hair straightener we already have cost... only that they worked quite well.... I also had no intention of paying a fortune for GHD straighteners, even though i know how great they are.
I decided to go my trusted local Argos and see what they had on offer. There were loads of hair straighteners in their catalogue from the really cheap to the really expensive. To be honest I really didn't know which straightener to buy. I knew I was happy with the Nicky Clarke ones I already had at home so decided to look at what was on offer from his range. I spotted a few different types and then saw this one. They are described as Colour prolong straightener. Personally I had never heard of this type of straightener and it interested me considering I had just had my hair highlighted. The straightener has 'Tourmaline and ceramic technology'. You can see a picture of the straightener on the front of the box. They are mostly black in colour and the hot straightener part is blue. It also says on the box that these are 'salon tried and tested'.
There is also a message on the box from Nicky Clarke saying the following;
" My colour prolong straightened combines Tourmaline and ceramic technology which helps to prevent colour fade, while making hair softer and easier to style"
*****Does it work?..................Yes it does!!*****
I first plugged the straightener in and decided to turn them onto the high heat. I would estimate it only took about one minute to heat up. I must point out it is essential to ensure your hair is fully dry before using the straightener ; otherwise its just like steaming your hair which won't do it any good at all! You must also be very careful of the hotness of the straightener plate itself. This does get very hot... up to 240 degrees celcius. You will burn yourself if your skin touches the plate.
I had already brushed and dried my hair fully. I basically just took some small strands of hair, held it straight and placed the straightener inbetween my hair straightening it from top to bottom. Its important to ensure all of the strands of hair are straightened right the way to the bottom. You need to ensure you hold your hair straight to avoid any ripples occurring in your hair.
Now I know some people may spend quite a bit of time, taking small strands of hair to get it very straight... but I didn't find this was really necessary. I am very mindful of damaging my hair these days and it isn't in a great condition as it is. I also found the straightener to be very effective. Basically, they work!! And my hair was straightened to how I wanted it. It only took me about 10 minutes... that's all. My hair didn't feel brittle or dry afterwards and it was smooth. It still has a thickish appearance being that my hair is thick. If I would have carried on or taken smaller strands of hair, then I have no doubt, the appearance would have been thinner. My intention of straightners is purely that... to straighten... not to have hair which looks too thin or sort of limp and lifeless. I was really pleased with the results!
With regard to the straightener helping to prolong the colour of your hair and preventing the hair colour from fading; all I can say at this point is that my new highlights have not faded and they remain as they were, although I have only using the product for about 6 weeks.
I couldn't believe the cost of this product. It was only £19.99!! At Argos. At first i was a bit dubious, thinking well, why are they so cheap and knowing that there are far more expensive products available. However, I am really pleased I got these now and no more sharing with my daughter!

Places the selected hair between the plate of the straightened and close plates, ensuring you do not touch the plates as they will be extremely hot
Hold straightened in place whilst holding hair taut sliding the plates 'along the section of hair in one smooth movement all the way down to the ends.
For shorter or finer hair lower the heat setting
For longer or thicker hair use a higher heat setting
*****Be aware that the straightener will remain hot for a while after unplugging it.. So never leave it anywhere where children can reach it.****
I usually use the straightener about twice per week. I don't recommend using it any more than this due to the damage it could cause to your hair.
I also recommend you use a heat protection product on your hair prior to using the straighteners.
This is a really good price for a good quality product.... for this reason i am awarding it the full five Dooyoo stars.
