When I first started straightening my hair, I was in middle school, and all I had was this pink 'teen hair straightener' which really didn't work. If anything, all it did was make my hair even frizzier, and get these weird kinks in it.
Therefore, for me, when I got my first proper hair straightener, it was really important to me that it would work well. I bought this as I had been recommended the brand by a friend, and I have to say I was not disappointed in the least.
It has a lot of easy and practical features, and the best part is that you can change the temperature of the straighteners. That way, if you have slightly thicker hair (like me) you can easily change the settings until it becomes easier to manage your particular hair type. Or, if you wanted to get a few wispy bits at the front you can lower the temperature to makes sure you aren't doing any damage to your hair.
This works perfectly for me, as I lot of the time, I tend to leave my hair till last before going out, so leave it until the last minute. When i'm in a rush, it's easy for me to just increase the temperature slightly, and then I can get my hair done within a matter of minutes! In fact, it only takes 15 seconds for the straighteners to heat up in the first place, so there's no useless waiting around to get going, you can jump in straight away.
I love using these straighteners, as I finally have a pair that genuinely works on my hair, is easy and fast to use, and of a clear high quality. If I were to recommend straighteners to anyone, I would recommend that people use Remington straighteners.
I have used GHD's to do hair for years and haven't changed because I have such difficult hair to work with but I was bought the Remington pearl straighteners as a present for my birthday and didn't think they would be any good on my hair as I have naturally curly dramatic hair and GHD's have been the only form of straightener that has worked for my hair.. but once I tried the straighteners I was so pleased with the outcome, surprisingly straightened my hair way better than my old GHD's. There also great because there very light weight compared to most straighteners I have tried in the past, and don't take much time to heat up which is great as I don't like to spend long on my hair as I have so much of it and waiting long would be a nightmare.. I now use the Remington's on a regular basis and no longer use my GHD's because I find my hair goes much better. These straighteners are so effective & at such a good price considering how well they do your hair! I use them almost every day and have never once had a problem with them, they do the job well and leave you with amazingly streight hair. And this is coming from someone who's fussy about electrical hair products. They also do amazing beach waves & curls much better than my GHD's did. I couldn't recommend this item more, it's fabulous and I rate it completely. Can't find any faults on the product.
My hair is curly, thick and long. As you can imagine it is harder for me to straighten my hair. Unfortunately I can not use any straightener. This one straightens may hair perfectly although it takes a bit long. My former straightener was also Remington and it lasted almost 2 years which is a good duration for a hair straightener.
I bought this hair straightener one week ago and i am really pleased with it.It was packed in a really nice way so i was excited from the first moment i got it.The design is awesome and it has a very light weight. You can choose what temperature you want and the maximum is 235 degrees. It take only 10 seconds to get to the temperature you choose.I really like it because you can also use it to make curls, and it's very simple and the result is really nice. And when you straighten your hair,it really lasts.Even the next day it still looks good. The cover you get for her it's really nice also and it's very useful because thanks to the easy lock system you can lock the straightene and put it in the cover and you don't have to worry if it's still hot,the case is heat resistant.I hope i helped you with this info's.I really like it and i recommend it.
I think if I had to choose one beauty appliance that I couldn't live without it would have to be my hair straighteners. But finding a good pair is like finding the holy grail. I received mine formchristmas along with a pair of the Remington pearl pro styler which I will do a separate review on.
Packaging and accessories
They come in a nice big box (but not so big that it's a waste of cardboard). The box is black and white, which is the same colour as the straighteners, with gold and cute flowers on it, again the same patteren that is on the straighteners.
The brand and name of the product is printed near the top of the box on the front with black and gold writing which keeps in with the sleek stylish theme. Then there is a picture of the product, straighteners and heat mat and some key information just underneath.
- 5 year guarantee
- 10 second heat up
- 235 degrees
"Hottest, fastest, smoothest straightener - professional salon results"
When you flip the box over there is a slightly smaller picture of the product and then all the benefits of the product along with a paragraph of information.
"Remingtons exclusive Pearl coating offers more ceramic content than standard coatings making the plates smoother, harder and longer lasting. This combined with the high temperature and constant heat performance creates superior salon results."
The box is made of thick sturdy cardboard so you know the product is well presented.
Inside the box there is a plastic tray containing the straighteners and also a gold heat proof mat which rolls out with a heatproof zip up pouch which is attached to the end by poppers.
The straighteners themselves are very light weight and fit perfectly in your hand. The control buttons are on the left hand side of the straighteners. The on/off switch is closest to the cord and then the + and - buttons that control the heat are closer to the heat plates. The lead is 3m long which comes in so handy and the cord also swivels.
There is a switch at the end of the straighteners which locks them shut which is brilliant for when they are not in use to make storage easier.
When you turn them on an LCD display lights up with the temperature which you can control. The temperature ranges from 150 - 235 degrees celcius and claims to heat up in 10 seconds. Although they do heat up fully in 10 seconds I find this is when you set them to the lowest heat setting but even if there on the highest heat setting they only take 20 seconds at a maximum to heat up.
With the minimal amount of straightening you get amazing results and this is especially important of your like me and constantly applying heat to your hair, you want the heat to be on for as little amount of time as possible.
The style lasts so long and would last (in my opinion 3 days) however due to washing my hair everyday it means I have to straighten every day to (condition hair a lot to keep in good shape). I find that my hair is also very shiny and smooth after straightening.
If you buy them at the RRP you are looking to pay about £84.99 however you can get them on eBay for about £35. I think £85 is a very reasonable price. I know it sounds like a lot for straighteners especially as times are hard but because I use them so much and there is a 5 year guarantee I would pay this twice over. Definitely value for money.
I can only think of 1 fault and that is that using them often can ruin your hair however this is the case for Amy product that applies heat to the hair and not just specifically to Remington, just remember to use a good heat protectant.
Owner of thick curly hair and long too down to middle of my back. I have had GHDs for the past 9 years after giving up on straightners periodically with the old style ones. Even with GHD's my hair is stubborn to straighten. Given my GhDs were slowly giving up I looked in Argos and came across these with excellent reviews. Plus reduced from 89.99 to 34.00 I thought they would be worth a try.
I purchased them and was suitably impressed they come packaged in a box nice and shiny ....premium looking. The straighteners are the same sort have size as the classic GHD's but nicer to look at. They are a shiny black with cream sides and pretty cream flowers on the black. Very stylish looking. They come with a heatproof bag and mat which attach to make a zip up bag which the mat wraps around and clips. The bag looks like a long thin clutch bag in a bronze - gold shiny material.
These unlike my previous ones can be locked into a closed position, a great feature for me having young children as i can lock them up after use and stash them away without wrapping with wire thus avoiding damaging the wire. These have to be switched on everytime as its a 'button' not a 'switch' and you can set the temp. When you turn it on its set to 190'c but can be turned up to 253'c. They will give a beep when ready. They have an automatic shut off after 1minute. They take 10 secs it says to heat up bit longer than some but still quick enough. They have a long cable too. (Do not heat whilst in the locked position is the advise given)
So how do they perform?? I can sum that up in one word FANTASTIC. They make my hair sleeker and smoother owing to the pearl technology or better straighteners? Who knows but i am impressed. At less than a third of the price (on offer) of the replacement to my existing ones and up to the same if not better quality and performance I would highly recommend these. They glide through my hair more easily it feels and it tames the ends and stubborn parts of my hair down much easier.
Im now a remmington convert
I am not a slave to my hair straighteners and dare to say I could live without them for two main reasons. Firstly, the fashionable days of poker straight hair seem to be ending, and secondly, I have fairly fine hair so it doesn't take too much controlling. However, if I ever want to properly 'do' my haior I will always, always use them, and often use them on a morning too if I don't wash my hair, just to give it a more styled appearance as opposed to the 'just got out of bed' look! I bought the Remington straighteners a couple of years ago and I've been delighted with them.
Easy to use
The straighteners are plugged into the mains via a perfectly adequate length lead that can easily stretch to the nearest mirror. When purchased they came with a full and clear instruction manual, a very useful heatproof wrapper (which I also use for curling tongs), several hair clips for straightening layer by layer and a handy little comb. I found them to be a perfect size for me. As I said my hair is fairly fine, quite long (just below shoulder length) and is prone to a wave so I didn't want anything really bulky and wide, but likewise nothing too thin that meant doing my hair would take an age. These were absolutely ideal, and are light enough to easily hold in one hand whilst styling with the other. For cooling breaks in-between they can simply be popped on to the large heatproof mat without fear of burning any surface.
I am really impressed with the functions on these straighteners. I would have been satisfied with it simply turning on, getting hot, then turning off. However, there is a digital temperature adjustment facility built into the handle, which can be set anywhere between 160 and 230 degrees depending on requirement. This can also be altered mid-style, as and when necessary. The temperature is controlled by a '+' button and a '-' button located on the handle. The makers were obviously aware of how easy it could be to accidently press one of the buttons during styling, so they have made it possible to 'lock' the required temperature by holding the '-' button for a few seconds, which is helpful. There is also a button that locks the straighteners in a closed poition when they are cool, so they take up less room for storage.
Safety as standard
In every ways, this appliance is as safe as is possible for an appliance that reaches such a high temperature. First of all there is a cut off point - if the appliance hasn't been used for certain amount of time (can't remember the exact length of time) then they turn off automatically. I always double and triple check in a rather obsessive way that they are unplugged before I lweave them, but this is great for that extra peace of mind! Also the heat proof mat is an ideal and safe place to leave them to cool when styling is finished. The straighteners themselves are black in colour and do look very smart, but the metal heated section doesn't reach right to the very end and sides of the 'jaws' which helps to avoid and accidental burns to ears, scalp or neck!
The Remington results
Depending on the required look, the straighteners may need to be run down the hair a couple of times to achieve a dead straight look, which apparently can increase the chances of hair damage, or once is enough just for a tidy. The results are long-lasting though, and hair is left silky and straight for the remainder of the day, evening and even overnight! I am aware that other hair straighteners can leave the hair with an ironed look with the slightest of touches, and although this is not one of those appliances, it only cost me about £35 on offer, and is absolutely ideal for my needs.
I have never really had to straighten my hair before as i tend to have mostly straight hair alot of the time . However i recently decided to follow the trend and see what all the fuss was about and purchase some. I knew i didnt want to spend alot of money because i didnt think id be using them an awful lot but at the same time i didnt want a cheap pair that could ruin my hair in the long wrong which is why when i came across these it was just the thing i was looking for. £ 45 from amazon.
Upon recieving these straighteners and upon first looks i was happy with the decision i had made. The straightner came in a overly large boxed and was was packaged and stored securely inside so not to break. On the front of the box was a picture of the hair straighteners i had purchased along with the name and model of them. Once i opened the box neatly tucked inside were my hair straighteners. They were tiderly packed in a bronze coloured pouch which suprisingly enough if you unbuttoned became aseparate heat proof mat (HANDY HEY!!).
The hair straighteners themself had a great but simple looking design. They looked very sophisticated with a black and pearl colouring to them. There incredibly light to hold too so i didnt get any arm ache whilst using them. On the front of the hair straightners is an electronic display screen which turns blue when the straightners are on and in use ... which stands out nicely.
The hair straighteners pretty much as soon as you turn them on heat up very quickly which is fab for any of those get up and go people out there. . The hair straightners have many temperature the minimum setting is 150 degrees C and the maximum setting is 235 degrees C . Once used the straightners take about 15 or so mins to cool down . The hair straightners stood out to me because of a handy little feature i noticed which most other hair straightners didnt seem to have, which was a good the plate lock. The plate lock is a catch you can push in to lock the hair straightners plates closer together almost in closed position rather than being open which is always handy. The cord for the straightners is rather long which was a bonus as it means i dont have to sit right next to where there plugged in to beable to use them .
When i first used these straightners i loved just how easy they were to use. They took no time at all to heat up and made my hair very straight in minutes. I was worried having never really used hair straightners before that they would destroy the condition of my hair but they gave my hair a really healthy looking shine after each use and i find myself using them alot more. I am so pleased with these straightners doesnt matter what the weather is like or what im doing once ive straightned my hair it stays straight no matter what i do :).
Before going for a more expensive brand of hair straightners i would definitly recommend trying these .. as i love them :) and think there just as good even if they are a fair bit cheaper dont let that put you off .. cause trust me you wont be disappointed .
I got this hair straightener as a gift from my parents, when i first started using it it was hard to use as i am used to the big thick hair straighteners. This hair straightener is very slim and very easy to use when got used to it. The colours of it makes it look very posh. With this device you can use the straightener up to 235 degrees, it can be turned lower if its too hot so you dont need to worry if you have thin hair. I have very thick curly hair and this item was the best gift i had in ages. It used to take me 1 hr to do my hair before and that wasnt even perfect. But now with this new straightener i have the remmington pearl it take me no longer than 15mins!! It also has a great feature where you can lock it in plus it turns off if not used within an hour!! Pure safety!
After my GHDs i never thought i would get a pair of straightners to match up to them... they broke shock horror so i asked santa for some new ones and then on christmas day i saw these and to be honest at first was shocked that they were not GHD and thought oh great snagged hair and split ends. i will admit i was very wrong!
The first thing that hit me was pretty packaging, including a bag with heat proof mat the bag can be removed from the mat. so i unpacked them and plugged them in and set the temparature to 190 degrees, i expected to be waiting a few minutes so i started to comb my hair, about 20 seconds in i looked down to see that they were hot enough as indicated by the digital display. so i spritzed my hair with protector and ran them down the length, so smooth, so easy and so straight! excellent.
Pretty patterned thin straightners with long slim extremly smooth plates, and a long cord (very useful!) the plates can be locked together. there is an on/off button and they also have a nifty little digital screen and +/- buttons to adjust the temparature. if the + button is held they go straight to 235 degrees. they have a wide temparature range and the fastest heat up time i have experienced!
If the straightners are left on they automatically turn off after one hour so theres no "oh my god did i leave my straightners on and will my house burn down!" whilst 3 hours into a shift!.
once i sectioned my hair i ran the plates over each section just once and my hair looked brilliant, it is mid back length and usually very difficult to straighten but the long plates help with this so it takes less than 10 minutes. for my nightmare fringe which has a big kink in it i pumped the temparature to 210 it took 10 seconds to heat and i ran it over the fringe twice... perfect.
I really love these straightners and imagine the 235 setting would be amazing on very curly hair, mine just doesnt need it and i find that 210 is the maximum required. since i started using these my hair is in better condition then it was with the GHD straightners and i love them. i brilliant gift. just invest in a good heat protection spray.
I am one of those girls who still remember life before GHDs, when the Babyliss Steam Straightener with detachable water canister for hot steam (and burnt head) was all the rage. I'm showing my age now, but I also remember the days when it was in fact, believe it or not, fashionable to wear your hair crimped. Or, to sleep in plaits, or worse, rags the night before school. I also had a perm. Yes, I looked like Steve McManaman before he discovered mousse and I don't mind telling you, I had serious envy over naturally curly crowns.
But, now, in the noughties, frizzy hair is a thing of the past and though curls drop in and out of the fashion press, straightened, glossy locks thanks to GHD I have been able to wear my awful hair relatively straight over the last few years. I've dabbled with non-GHD straighteners, including the Babyliss Pro 230 (a fabulous straightening iron) but always tend to go back to GHD and my latest pair were purple so that speaks for itself as to why they've been my styling tool of choice.
This Christmas, realising my purple ones were seriously due an upgrade, I put straighteners on my Christmas list, but due to the current economic climate (I just love using that phrase!) my partner and I had set a budget for Christmas spending and GHDs would just eat most of that up at £100+ for a pair. So, I Googled 'alternative straighteners to GHD' and the Remington S9500 Pearl Hair Straightener was strewn across the results. I mentioned it to my partner who berated me and said that was the pair she'd told me about weeks ago in Asda, reduced to just £25 (from £85-£99 RRP depending where you buy it). Off she went to see if they still had them and I eagerly awaited Christmas morning!
I know the suspense must be killing you now, but I can reveal that under the tree was a package containing a beautiful new pair of straighteners from Santa Claus. I couldn't wait to try them and after putting on my new Christmas outfit, I opened the box. There was a lot of packaging material (like an Egg Carton), so that was a bit of a downside, but the downsides ended there.
The straighteners are stunning, off white and black with a pretty floral design running across the top display. They are the same width as GHDs and roughly the same weight (I HATE heavy styling tools, they make my arms ache!). They have ceramic plates, which is common now; it replaced metal as the plate material because it allows the plates to glide across the hair rather than dragging and it smoothes the hair cuticles down over to ensure a straight, frizz free finish. But more important than the ceramic plate is the ceramic coating. The more ceramic / higher the grade of the ceramic coating the better the straightener, and these beauties have maximum grade ceramic with crushed pearl. Remington have doubled the ceramic layer, so the S9500s contain 15 times more ceramic than any other straighteners. And let me tell you, this is not just a bit of marketing hype, using the straighteners I could physically feel how easier they glided through my hair, it's hard to explain the feeling, but they just moved smoother than any other straighteners I had used. They are also less susceptible to damage from hair products / scratches and due to the amount of ceramic there are claims that they last 5 times longer than any other straightener on the market, though this will take me a while to prove! The plates float, which allows for even straightening and they meet along the full length, so no need to squeeze the plates together.
They heat up slower than GHDs by a few seconds (maybe 5 or so) but they have a variable temperature control from 150°C right up to 235°C, which is HOT! There is a simple display and a basic plus / minus / on / off selection of buttons. There is an LCD lock too so that you don't accidentally change the temperature when straightening your hair. They are also more rounded than GHDs which means curling your hair with them is much easier. Though they take a little more time than GHDs to heat up, because they are hotter they do retain the heat a lot longer in the 11cm ceramic plates. A plus point if the 3m cord just doesn't give you enough leeway to make it to the mirror. A downside if you've just straightened your hair and need to pack them straight up!
So, that's where the pearly, pewter coloured heatproof mat and case which are included in the box come in. They not only protect your surfaces once you've unplugged your straighteners and leave them to cool; they also allow you to put your straighteners away in a bag / case whilst they are still hot. There are some other really cool features, namely the auto shut off after 60 minutes, so no panicking that you've left your straighteners on the minute you hit the office and the hinge lock so that you can pack them away neatly. And, it comes with a 5 year guarantee as standard.
I've been using the straighteners for almost 2 weeks now, and seriously my hair has never looked shinier, straighter and healthier. The Remington S9500 Pearl Hair Straightener is available for around £35 - £40 on Amazon and if you really shop around you might find them reduced somewhere like we did. Even for their full RRP of £85-£99 they are not an alternative to GHD they are a replacement, seriously, they are far better quality, give a better finish, are hotter and give a smoother experience. I highly recommend them - my experience using them over the last couple of weeks has made me want to get the curling wand and other products in the range!
I bought these straighteners from Boots as a replacement for my (unfortunately fake) 'GHDs'. It took me some time to decide between this product and a few other similar ones however reviews ch as the one that I am writing now eventually swung my vote! I was also persuaded by the fact that the plates are slightly longer than the traditional hair straightener which is useful for me as I have long hair.
The straighteners came presented in a lovely box and came with a silver travel case, I decided to recycle that as I prefer the mat that I got with a different pair of straighteners some time ago. I think my original decision was that the case was a bit of a faff to use, being quite difficult to zip up.
All in all I am extremely pleased with the performance of the product; it heats up to 235 degrees celcius and you can chose how hot you want the plates. The straightener is designed with a curve on the barrel which makes it super easy to curl hair 'GHD' style. This is also helped by the way the cable is designed so it swivels as you style your hair.
My only reservation about the product is that due to me curling my hair regularly the writing on the top has begun to fade.
I bought these as a quick solution after breaking my FHI straightners. my hairs short , thick and has a slight wave so seeing that these plates were super slim really appealed to me. The packageing is querky and interesting and the fact you have a good temperature range also was appealing as my previous straightners were just one high heat which i have to say frazzeled my poor locks. The fact that they are also incredibly femine was incredibly important as my bf (though he wont admit it) was addicted to my straightners and at a bargain price what could go wrong. Unfortunately i feel my expectations where just to high it takes me roughly about three times to go over each section and i have to say the end product is'nt very good. Ive only used these a handfull of times and am really beginning to miss my FHI's. Bargain price and very nice packaging but im afraid thats about it
I got this for my birthday last year. Since my hair is naturally wavy & I strongly dislike it, i straighten my hair everyday. My old straightener completely ruined my hair, & I was actually recommended this by my hairdresser! I have been using these amazing straighteners for about 4 months now & i can already see that my hair is looking healthier. My hairdresser also says it's not as burnt & ruined as it used to be. Not only does this not burn my hair that much, it also works better than my previous ones. Even when it's extra windy my hair still stays straight. For this price, which is very low, I am very happy with this product. Because my hair stays straight for longer, sometimes i don't even have to use the straighteners the next day! This is good because my hair is not getting as burnt & ruined as before.
I bought these straighteners in early January and I have to say they are AMAZING! they keep my hair straight for a long period of time as with my GHDs they don't keep my hair straight for a the amount of time I want it to be. I got these straighteners at Dixons for around £53! and ever since i've been loving them. My friends always compliment me on how straight my hair is and what straighteners I use, I love how they are made out of real pearl extracts, and the amazing design makes it look even better. The settings are not complicated at all, I HIGHLY recommend these straighteners if your looking for something that does what it says in adverts and something not too pricey like GHDs.
