Advantages: Easy to use, Heat up quickly

Disadvantages: None

Babyliss Root Booster was one of those beauty hair products that I had to have as soon as I saw it advertised. I have log hair which I would say is quite medium in thickness I would love to have thick hair but sadly it just was not to be. I also have ears which sometimes stick out of my hair which I hate my usual way of dealing with this is to clip in extensions which thicken up my hair hiding that pesky sticky out ear. Anyway I asked for the Root Booster for Christmas and had it out of the box as soon as it was un wrapped I could not wait.

Taking the root booster out of the box I found my new product it is half the size of my regular straightner in thickness and the same size in length - my regular straightner is a Wet to Dry one which is about basic size for all straighter's I think. Anyway instead of flat plates on the irons I found a mini style crimper 4 little bumps which are there to crimp your hair giving it lift. I do actually still own my original crimpers from the 90s and know that they are great for giving lift to my hair but the crimper on these is much smaller than the one from the good old days.

The left hand side of the crimper has 3 heat settings the hottest being 200 degrees which of course is the one I slide it onto. It also has a power button once the power button is on sliding the heat setting up illuminates 140 170 200 on the top of the boosters the heat setting will flash and then stay lit once the boosters have reached the temperature you want to use it takes around 20-30 seconds to heat up to 200 so they are very quick at being ready for action.

On the box is a demonstration of how to use the root boosters you are supposed to section your hair at the top then crimp near the root. On my first attempt I found that my hair did look a bit lifted but no where near as much as the girls on the box so I tried again. This time I moved the booster a bit away from my root which seemed to lift my hair up alot more effectively so the key to using these is to experiment for yourself and find what is right for you I do a couple of layers with mine to lift my hair more which I find is more effective for me. I use my root booster as I straighten as I section my hair off for this anyway so it's easier to do it all in one go. Once you have boosted your hair it will last all night and until you wash your hair as with old style crimpers once your hair is crimped its like that until you wash it out.

The root booster has a long enough cord to enable you to be able plug it in under a dressing table and use. It is around 2 metres in length which I feel is enough and it does have a 'swivel cord' which allows you to use the root booster around your head with no fuss.

The Root Booster costs around £30 which is quite a bit I think especially if you are only going to use occasionally but as mine was a gift I am not complaining I give it 5 stars.

Summary: Volume that lasts
