Babyliss 2123U Root Boost Micro Crimper
Advantages: The ease of use
Disadvantages: No results
For Christmas I was given a £20 gift card for boots so that I could treat myself to makeup, bath products, perfume-anything I wanted really. The truth was, I didn't really need anything as the things I did need and want I had got as gifts for Christmas! Despite this I couldn't resist nipping to my local Boots store to see if they had anything new in so that I could spend my voucher.
I've backcombed my hair for as long as I can remember as my hair is so flat otherwise! Sometimes its lightly teased other times it's quite volumous and if you have any experience with backcombing you'll know how hard it is to restore your hair to its smooth self afterwards!
I noticed the Babyliss 2123U Root Boost Micro Crimper simply by chance when scouring the electrical goods shelves looking at hair dryers and straighteners. With great curiosity I read the item description and thought of all the times I've fought with my hair the day after I've backcombed it to death and decided to try it out.
The product boasts that if you crimp your underneath layers then place your top layers over the crimped hair then you will achieve the look and volume of backcombed hair without the mess, fuss and painful combing-out process!
The plates are ceramic like GHD hair straighteners and I swear by GHD's and know that ceramic plates have many advantages, the plates are quite thin but they have a big enough surface area to do the roots quickly. It has a swivel cord which allows for easy root boosting action! Alongside this it has 3 heat features reaching 200degrees; I tend to use 200degrees as I have found this has more lasting power than lower heat settings.
To use the root booster really is simple, you need to take the top layer of your hair and clip it up out of the way and then grip the underneath layers at the root and hold it in place for a few seconds, after you have completed the root boosting process around the crown you can unclip the top layer of your hair and you should see a difference... But this is where my qualms come into play.
The effect is minimal on my long, dry hair and perhaps this would work better on short, bobbed hair with thinner layers but it doesn't actually specify this anywhere which is disappointing. It really doesn't compare to the effect that backcombing has, I have tried numerous different ways with the root booster for example, holding the ceramic plates down longer and using bigger and smaller amounts of hair but to no advantageous prevail.
The overall price was £30.49 which would have been reasonable, if it had delivered, but it didn't so I'd say this is vastly overpriced. I had to add £10.49 of my own money and I thought this product would be the answer to my volumous hair dreams but it wasn't to be-on some occasions you could see the crimping effect even when I had placed my top layers over the top especially in the wind it exposes the crimped parts of your hair which looks like you haven't straightened your hair properly.
The ease of this tool to use and the features are good but the concept of this product is beyond their reach; it doesn't produce noticeable results so I'm back to backcombing until I find a better alternative as this product isn't it.
Summary: A rootboosting tool
