      Advantages

      Disadvantages

great product for achieving lots of new hairstyles

My hair is normally a complete nightmare to curl it takes ages and all the curlers I had previously tried did not make the curls stay in long at all infact by the time I had done my hair, got dressed and got to where we are going my hair is ruined.

My hair is really thick which I think causes the problem and this is why the curls just fall out.

My husband bought me these curlers for Christmas and I was really excited by the fact that I might actually be able to have hair that was cool and on trend like everyone else who was able to have loose curls.

I tried it for the first time over the Christmas holidays when we went out for a meal and I was really impressed with the results.

The best thing was that by the end of the night my hair was still curly - hooray that the first time any curler has achieved that!

The curlers are great quality and come packaged in a really nice box. Inside they even have a little pouch to stored them in so they keep in good condition.

The curlers reach 200 degrees so I think this may have something to do with why they work so well. It was a bit tricky to use at first but I gradually am getting better at it the more I use it. The curlers are electric so come with the plug already attached you simply just plug it in. The cord that is attached is great as it is quite long so it easily reaches from my plug to my dressing table.

At first I found it really difficult to curl the back of my hair but I am getting better at it every time I use it.

The curlers come with a glove that you can use which protect your hand from the curlers so you don't burn your fingers which you will definitely do it you don't use

I would definitely recommend this curler to anyone who wants to have that modern curly look for their hair.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

not the best but certainly good for the price!

i have naturally very straight hair that isnt the easiest to curl and have tried and tested quite a few curling wands and eventually tried this one, i found this wand very light compared to others ive used in the past and quite evenly weighted meaning it was very easy for me to use myself without the help of friends or family, i personally love the colour it looks very chic and sophisticated which really appealed to me. i have to say while i felt this product was easy to use i think perhaps it would have been more effective if my hair was a tad longer as it didnt wrap fully around the wand and i burnt my fingers a few times just proving that this product got to a good heat! while it took me a few attempts to get the right kind of curls i like and figure out how long to hold it in place when i got it right it worked wonderfully, while not the best ive had its defiantly a good product!

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

A beautiful curling wand which creates pretty curls quickly and easily

My hair is neither straight not curly but is instead some frizzy messiness in between. This therefore results in me spending ages blow drying and straightening my hair to make it look neat and presentable. Every now and again, I will give it a helping hand in the other directions in a bid to achieve some defined curls. For this reason I bought the Babyliss 2285U Curling Wand.

      Appearance and Price
The product is very eye catching in it's design and it's one of the main reasons that I first considered the product. It is a beautiful ruby read colour which looks expensive and classy, and it has a metallic finish. On the front of the product is a circular button which you push to turn the product on and off again. There is also a panel on the front which says the different temperatures and beneath it is a plus and minus button which moves the temperature up and down. It has a ribbed middle for extra grip and the product looks lovely and streamline.

The product will be available for a range of prices but I got mine for about £29 from Argos. It can be bought from a range of online websites and also from a variety of stores which sell electrical appliances.

      About the product
The curling wand is described as being a salon quality. It promises to give you the freedom and the flexibility to create pretty curls or soft waves. It comes without a clamp which is either a positive or negative depending on your views.

      Features
The product has a Nano Gold Ceramic Barrel which heats up to 200 degrees, although there are 5 heat setting altogether going as low as140 degrees so you can choose which works best for you. The very tip of the wand doesn't heat up so you won't end up burning your fingers as you hold the hair. The cord swivels around so it will move with you as you use the wand. The product comes with a heat protection glove to stop yourself getting burnt.

How do you use the product?
The product must be used on dry hair because if the hair is damp it could get damaged. You can use a heat protection spray on the hair first. You need to take a section of the hair at a time around wrap the hair around the wand, hold it in place for a minute and then release the hair. For a more natural appearance you don't need to curl the hair all the way to the root. For a tight curled appearance, you can curl small sections of the hair at a time or for looser waves, you can curl larger sections. You can then set the style with a spritz of hair spray.

      Using the product
The product is not light but it isn't so heavy that it makes you arm ache and this is a good thing as you will be holding it for a while. It heats up quickly when you turn the product taking around 30 seconds or so which is good when you are in a rush. There is a flashing light on the front panel while it heats which then stops flashing once it has reached the required temperature. The cord to the curling wand isn't as long as it could be and although this isn't a problem for me, it will be for those who don't have a mirror fairly close to a plug socket. The product automatically switches off if you forget to do it which is reassuring to a scatter brain like me!

When using the product, I find the middle temperatures are best for me. I don't tend to use the hottest one because then I feel like I'm being kinder to my hair! I have used wands in the past which have a clamp and which this helps to hold the hair in place, it does make the process more fiddly in my opinion. So the fact this product comes without a clamp is a positive for me. I sometimes wear the glove to stop me from burning my hands because I am very clumsy. When I don't wear it, I have sometimes burnt my hand and it does sting because the wand gets very hot. The fact that the cord can swivel means I don't get it tangled in my hair.

The wand forms the curls quickly although my hair will generally curl very easily. This makes the process a quick and easy one. I prefer to start a quarter of the way down my hair using larger sections so that the curls are loose and natural looking. It does produce natural curls and they are defined well so there isn't any frizziness. It does seem to add a bit of shine to my hair and it does make my hair look in a good condition. The curls drop a bit as time goes on and they are more like waves by the end of a night but I like how this looks too! My hair is long so I think my hair weighs down the curl. Someone with shorter hair may experience longer lasting results.

      Conclusion
All in all, this is a beautiful looking product which is classy and eye catching. It is easy to use, has a range of temperature setting and it forms gorgeous soft curls in the hair. The curls are fairly long lasting although they do drop into waves and I really look how they look natural. I would happily recommend this product.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

I love this wand for special occasions. Not for daily use.

This hair curling technology does not have a clamp to hold hair. That is because you are meant to wrap your hair around the wand and just hold it there and then let it go. The curls the wand acheives are not bouncy curly or wavy but a wavy curl kind of look.

The wand itself is large close to the handle and narrows down the closer to the end you get. It is almost in the shape of a cone. Because of the cone shape I would recommend leaving about an inch or half inch not curled around the wand at the bottom just so the curls are a little less cone shaped if that makes sense.

The heat settings on this wand are:

        310 degrees F
        330 degrees F
        360 degrees F
        400 degrees F

I have tried each of these heat settings and from my test I have discovered that the heat setting of 330 works best for fine/normal hair.

The only down side of this product is that the heat settings are very high. Even the lowest one burns my hair and breaks the ends. So I avoid using this wand all the time. It is definitely more of a special occassion curling iron.

        Disadvantages

        Another great tool from BaByliss.

        ~*~*~ BaByliss 2285U Curling Wand ~*~*~

        ~ What is it? ~

A curling wand has the same principles as a tong where by you wrap your hair around a heated barrel, the difference with this when compared to a regular curling tong is that this has no clamp and the wand is conical shaped.
The BaByliss Curling Wand is pink and silver in colour and looks very girly and pretty.

Of course it is made by BaByliss who are a brand I have come to know and trust over the years as they have a good range of hair appliances available, all of which are decently priced and all perform very well.

        ~ Why did I buy it? ~

Well why not?! I have a massive range of heated hair appliances and I love to add to my collection so when I saw these online the pink colour really grabbed me and I wanted them, I also thought that they may end up being easier to use than conventional tongs.
My hubby bought me these for my birthday this year and they have had a fair bit of use since then.

        ~ The Wand ~

I like the look of these although I admit at first I thought they looked like they were missing something - the clamp!
The conical barrel ranges from a large 25mm at the bottom part and tapers into a neat 13mm barrel at the top point.
The barrel is ceramic coated which helps protect the hair and add shine. This is neither silver nor gold in colour but a slight mix between the two.
The pink 'handle' part is coloured in a very attactive cerise pink which makes it look pretty and girly.
The heat settings can be placed to your desired temperature by the simple use of the plus and minus buttons on the handle. The temperatures available are -

        165°C
        180°C
        195°C
        210°C

The power button is placed just below the temperature control buttons.

It will heat up in 30 - 45 seconds and it is then ready to use, a small light will blink whilst is is warming and once it has reached the desired temperature the light will stay on.

At the very tip of the wand is a black stay cool tip which is very useful! It also comes with a black heat resistant glove that I would recommend using at least until you get the hang of using it.

It has a long 2.5m salon length cord that swivels for ease of use.

It has an automatic safety shut off after 72 minutes.

        ~ Using the wand ~

At first it felt quite strange that there wasn't a clamp to hold my hair in place but I soon got the hang of it, you simply take you hair and wind it around the barrel, hold in place for about 7 - 10 seconds and then release, even on my just below shoulder length hair it produces nice bouncy large curls. It's really easy when you figure out just what to do. I use the highest setting, like I do with all my heated hair tools as I find my hair will stay in place better then, I also use a generous spritz of hairspray to keep the curls in place for longer.

        ~ Overall Opinion ~

I really like this wand, with tongs I find that I get the odd kink at the bottom of my hair but with this I just get fabulous curls, I try to stick to the thinner end of the wand as my hair is shorter but even on the thickest side I find it still adds curls to my hair.

Now that I am used to them, I find them fantastic, they heat up extreamely quickly and leave my hair looking great. I don't feel my hair feels worse for using them on the highest temperature and I feel this helps the curls last longer.

If I do my hair in the morning, it will still be nice in the evening although the curls will have dropped a bit.

I am very impressed with this not only because it leaves my hair looking great and that it is easy to use, but it's a rather attractive hair tool.

        ~ Price and Availabilty ~

Mine were purchased from Argos and cost £24.99 but they can also be found at various other places including Debenhams. Prices range from between £20 - £25.

        Thanks for reading :o) x

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

Good results acheved if you can be bothered!

Typically, it seems that anyone born with curly hair wants it straight, and anyone blessed with straight hair would give anything to have bouncy curls. I was blessed with something in-between that requires heated help to achieve either look! I was a bit fed up of constantly opting for the easy option of straight hair (or the natural 'mess') so decided to invest in a pair of curling tongs to see what a head full of real curls would look like...

          Ease of use

The tongs come with an instruction booklet describing how to use them. The guidelines need to be well adhered to in order to achieve the required results. You need to take a small, combed section of hair, wrap it round the wand and hold for 5 seconds, then release to leave the strand of hair curled. Obviously, to do this to a full head of hair is rather time consuming and quite taxing on the arm to keep it up in the air for so long. The good thing about the tongs is that they are slim and lightweight, so it makes it easier to use them one-handed. The tongs also come with a heat proof glove to help prevent burning when wrapping the hair round the tongs, though I must say I didn't find this effective - after 5 minutes it didn't feel heat resistant! It also meant I wasn't as nimble fingered - personally, Ifound it easier to be gloveless and be careful. It does take a while to get the technique right, as with many things practice makes perfect. Unfortunately, perhaps due to my own clumsiness, I ended up burning my finger, neck and ear!!

          The Results

Provided you have the patience to persevere with curling your hair in 2cm sections, the resulting curls did look fantastic. I set aside a good hour to curl my hair and on completion I was very pleased. The curls are lovely, bouncy and perfectly formed, but it really is a long, arduous job! I guess it depends on an individual's hair type as to how long the curls last. I found they started to drop out after a few hours, and by evening time (after a lunch-time curling session) I was left with a bit of a knotted mess. I have fairly fine hair which is probably the reason why, but with a bit of trial and error of different hair product, this problem could probably be rectified somewhat. In many ways, at least with straightened hair, it generally remains that way until bedtime, and can at least be thoroughly brushed rather than be left rather knotty as mine was.

          Value for money

These curling tongs cost me about £30 from Argos which I thought was quite reasonable. However, after using and realising that I will only use them on the odd occasion due to the length of time it takes, I realised that perhaps they were not a great investment.
All in all, I would recommend this product for the results that they give, which is probably the main factor- just be sure you have enough time

definately recommend it to a friend because it is great for what its made for

I have thick and hard to control hair it is naturally curly but its very frizzy i love having curly hair and i have tried many different curlers some were quite good but didnt last very long. Then i got these curlers for christmas i used them straight away i love how they have a temperature setting so that you can control how hot it is, eventhough i have to put to the highest temperature to get them to have any effect but when i used them my hair looked the best it has ever done and so that i dont burn my hand they give you a black glove that is heat resistant. now everytime i go out i use my curlers and my hair looks great! even my friends and family think that my has looks good. I would definately recommend it to anyone who wants good curly hair.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

The best I have tried so far

Having tried and tested a range of curling products, this I have to say is the first that curls my hair AND the curls stay (with the help of a small amount of mousse and hair spray). Setting the scene, I have thick, uneven waves in my hair and I am an obsessive straightener.

I own a range of curling products, all of which have been pretty useless. I purchased this Babyliss curler based on reviews that I had read (I own another Baybliss curler that does not work on my hair). I was desperate to achieve that loose sleek curl look everyone seems to be sporting at the moment and to have a break from straightened hair.
Although the curls I achieve with this aren't as neat as the curls that everyone else has (and all the pictures show) it does leave me with curls that last (and everyone else comments on as being lovely). The Babyliss Hairstyler does reach up to 200 degrees similar to that of the GHD straighteners. The only draw back to such a high heat is when you burn your fingers. However this is much rarer than with other curlers I have used due to the magic of the glove that comes with it. This is a black glove that you put on the hand that is not holding the curler. Beware heat will still go through it if you hold your hand on it too long. The curlers have two heat settings but I have to admit I have never used the lower one due to having such untameable hair.
The cable is of a reasoanble length so you can maneuver the curlers around with ease. It comes in a lovely sports red, which to be honest has no bearing on the performance but it's nice to have a bit of colour in our lives.
When I first started using these curlers they weren't the easiest to get to grips with. It did take some practise to curl the whole of my hair and get the curls to not start half way down my head. However, now I have mastered it I would definitely recommend this product. The results are even better if I can rope in a friend to curl my hair for me.
Although on my unruly hair the curls are not perfect, definitely the best curler I have used.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          The best curlers out there

Whenever I get a chance to gout somewhere i love to turn my poker straight hair into bouncy curls. I have never found a curler though that can give me curls quickly and also that last without having to put mousse in which leaves my hair crunchy and horrible...that was until I was bought the babyliss want curlers.

The packaging looks sophisticated and has a picture of the wand and a women with the curls I've always wanted.

Inside you get the instructions for the curlers although they are so simple to use you really don't need them, the actual curlers and then a glove!

The curlers themselves look very modern and space like! They have a Burgundy coloured handle with the power button and then up and down buttons to set the curlers to the temperature you would like the curlers to get to. The higher the temperature for thicker hair and the lower temperature for thinner hair. Then the there's the curling wand it's silver and starts thicker at the top thinning out to the bottom, I believe because of this it gives a more natural looking curl. At the top is a black rubber grip to prevent you from burning your fingers.

What I love about the curlers is the glove they give you. It's a black tight fitting glove made from a heat resistant material so that when curling your hair your further protected from burning your fingers. However it states on the box not to hold onto the wand as eventually you will burn your hand!

To curl your hair you simply wrap your hair around the wand starting from the top and hold it there for at least 5 seconds. The longer you hold it the tighter the curl gets. Once you've finished you end up with bouncy curls and best of all i've found they last without mousse or hairspray!

Whats even better is that they are also cheap only £14.99!

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

No good for me, but others may love it!

I have very thick, long hair, which can be very tricky to style, so I have tried pretty much every product and styling appliance under the sun! My hair is naturally curly, but in a horrid frizzy type of way and so I normally style it either straight or in waves / curls using my GDHs.

However, using GHDs to curl my hair can be quite a time consuming process so I'm always on the lookout for something new. A couple of my friends have mentioned they use the Babyliss curling wand and I liked the way their hair looked so I bought one, for £25 from Asda. What I really should have done is tried theirs first, because this appliance just did not work on my hair!

The appliance itself is a pretty basic design, a wand shaped curling tong, with no clamp, which tapers at one end. The entire thing heats up and therefore included is a glove to wear on one hand to avoid burns - not foolproof it has to be said, but it helps. The heat is variable, so you can adjust it in accordance with your hair type, it heats up to 200 degrees but for anyone with fine hair I would certainly suggest a lower heat setting. You basically wrap your hair around the barrel, lock by lock (the thicker the lock of harir the looser the curl) holding each lock for around 5-10 seconds (again depending on your hair type / thickness)until you have done all of your hair.

As my hair is so thick I used the highest heat setting, but I found that I had to hold it for longer than the recommended time, up to about 15 seconds, for it to have any impact. By the time I had done one side of my head and got round to the other side, the curls on the first side were dropping out! Not literally, I should point out! Even trying again and using hairspray as soon as I had done each curl to set it didn't help much. In addition, as my hair is thick it took me ages to do my whole head. Part of this might have been because I am new to it, I expect after a couple of go's you would get quicker.

In any case, I wasn't happy with it and won't use it again. It obviously works for some people, because I know people who have it and like it, but if you have thick, long, heavy hair then steer clear!!

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

I'll be replacing mine when they die :)

I am a hair styling addict and cannot live without straightening the frizzball that is my hair!! So in order to 'dress up' on nights out I usually curl my hair instead. I bought these hair curlers as a treat for myself about a year ago after reading a lot of reviews on the various different types you can buy. The main reason I chose them was because they had a high temperature settings and they did not have a clamp, which I've found in the past leaves a noticeable kink at the end of your hair.

The hair curler is red and black in colour with a silver barrel. The design is quite sleek and the colour makes it different from others on the market! The barrel itself is cone shaped so when you curl your hair the ringlets gradually get smaller. It is not too heavy, so you can afford to keep your arms up whilst your curling your hair!! It has four heat settings ranging from 155 to 200 degrees. You can pick which one via the use of the plus or minus buttons, which take you through the selections. A flashing red light indicates that the hair curler is on, and once it has reached the selected temperature a solid light comes on. Initially, I found this really confusing since my hair straighteners work the other way round! I have quite thick hair and usually use the highest setting and the curls hold well without the use of hair spray but obviously results will depend on your hair type.

I found the curler quite difficult to get used to, because I'd been so used to having a clamp!! Initially my hair just slid off the end of the barrel when I was not paying attention!! The curlers come with a heat resistant glove, which helps you hold the hair on the barrel without burning yourself! The end of the curler is also plastic so if you are not using the glove you can hold the hair to this part without causing injury. Having said that, I have burnt myself on numerous occasions because of the sheer heat of this curler and maybe because I lost the glove!!

The lead for the wand is quite long, which is great if, like me, your mirror is nowhere near a plug socket!! It also twists and turns when your curling your hair so you don't knot up the lead. You can create big bouncy curls or smaller tight ones with the use of this wand, depending on how much hair you use. For best results you should try and get the hair flat on the surface of the wand, avoiding twisting it. This is quite tricky and takes a bit of practice!! It is also advisable to not curl up to the root, leaving about an inch or two from the top. I usually curl my hair for around eight to ten seconds on the barrel. The curls are easy to 'remove' from the wand because the barrel is silky smooth and there is no clamp to get the hair caught in. This was a major selling point for me!! It takes me slightly longer to curl my hair in comparison to straightening (around half an hour). I have medium length hair and quite a lot of it!! When the curler is not in use it can free stand on a flat surface without the wand burning into anything! I would advise getting a heat mat just in case mind you!

The curler comes in a handy sized box (I've kept mine to store them in when they're not in use!) and stores away nicely. The curlers are SO CHEAP. On Amazon at the moment they are £17.50 (£6.99 delivery) which is a fraction of other brands. I actually bought mine in Robert Dyas for about £29, but that was a while ago now!

In my opinion they're worth every penny, and I won't hesitate in buying the same model if they break one day! I would say they are a bit difficult to get used to, but people who have never curled their hair before shouldn't be put off. They take a bit of practice, which is why they lose a star, but produce good results. Remember your heat protector!!

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

A good product, if you dont mind a few scolds

Now don't get me wrong, I usually use my GHDs for curls, but I was bought these for Christmas last year and I was surprised by how easy and effective they are. The curls are so easily constructable, and you can chose whether you want them loose or tight, bouncy or short etc.

The tongs plug straight into the wall and have a gradual heat meter, and you can chose whether you want it cool, warm or hot- ( most recommended for better curls, but use heat protection)
You simply section off a piece of your hair, brush it, wrap it around the tong ( but be careful not to burn yourself, I've been there) and let it loose for an easy curl- then finish with product and your good to go be glam. The thing that I found with these was that I burnt myself a lot with the heat of the tongs, as there is no clip for the hair you have to just hold it there for a while, which, even if you are wearing the little black gloves they provide you with it still hurtss dudde!

They cost my mum £19.99 in Argos last year and I really appreciate them and use them quite often. Thanks for reading...Pinky x

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

A great product, but not easy enough to use for me.

I had never had much luck with trying to curl my hair. I always found it too difficult to do, or, the few times I had achieved what I wanted, the curls would drop out straight away.
I was quite excited when I heard so many good things about the Babyliss Curling Wand, and it didn't take me long to go out and buy one! I was incredibly excited at the thought of being able to easily curl my hair.

I loved the design of the wand, it was unlike any curling tools I'd ever seen before, simply unique. It came in a box that also contained a heat proof glove to wear while using the wand, so that there are no mishaps and finger burning! I found though, that the glove didn't really stop the wand from burning my fingers. It simply took longer for the heat to reach my fingers. Perhaps I was doing it wrong? Who knows!

I found it very, very difficult to use the wand upon first use. I sat in front of a mirror with my glove on one hand, wrapping my hair around the wand. I only got half way around my head before giving up though, as every section of hair I did seemed to have different kind of curl!

I tried again a few times after this, but found that it was just too fiddly, and that even with the glove I would burn my fingers whilst wrapping around the hair and holding it in place. Perhaps this says more about me being clumsy than the actual product, but I simply found them impossible to use! If you're looking for something easy to curl your hair, I would suggest some tongs with a clamp to hold your hair in place while it curls!

                Advantages

                Disadvantages

                definitely something worth purchasing!

I have been experimenting with different curling products for years and have never been completely satisfied with with the results achieved. A friend recomended the Babyliss Curling want to me and after comparing prices, I found the cheapest to be in Argos. I bought the curling wand and was pleased with the design. Its sleek and stylish, with a stand and a cool tip. I have previously used a different curling want that come with a heat glove to stop you burning your hand, however after using the Babyliss wand I have found that the cool tip does the same job!
Easy to turn on and temperature controls with a digital display, It seems to be suited to all hair types. I found it easy to create different types and tightness in my curls and was happy with the achieved results. It was a little awkward at first finding the right angle to hold the wand at and trying not to burn myself on the wand, however with a few attempts I found the right way for me.
I was pleased that there was no clamp. When I have used tongs before I feel that the clamp leaves a kink in the hair, taking away from the naturalness.
This product is definitely one of my 'night out essentials' and I would recommend that everyone tries it. It left my with sleek, natural looking curls without the 'crispyness' I have experienced with other curlers.
I have found that teaming this with curl defining shampoo and a finishing hairspray helps the curls last much longer. I woke up the following morning ready to go with the curls still in tact.
