Advantages: Heats up well, quality ceramic coating, cord swivels, easy to use, come with heatproof glove
Disadvantages: Heatproof glove isn't fully heatproof, time consuming, needs some skill
I was bought this curling wand as a present, and immediately got to work on curling my hair! The wand feels very good quality and is nice to use - it gets very hot which leads to effective curling and the ceramic surface is very smooth and good quality (unlike some straighteners I've owned where the edges "catch" your hair).
I have mid-length, fine hair (and not loads of it, either) and it took me, a complete amateur, half an hour to curl my whole head. I could have done with an extra 15 minutes really, as I rushed the end. If you are curling your whole head of hair, the best way is to spearate it into sections with big clips like hairdressers use - otherwise it is impossible to isolate the hair your are curling from the rest of your hair. I started from the bottom and worked my way up, finishing at the front parting.
The wand is easy to manouvre, as it swivels on the cord. It gets very hot, so they supply one "heatproof" glove to wear on the hand that will be holding the hair in place. Even with this glove (which feels satiny and fits quite snugly) the heat penetrates and you can't hold the wand directly. The glove doesn't go far up the arm, but stops at the wrist, so I have occasionally burned the bottom of my arms... and my ear...
The curls are very nice and natural looking - the wand goes thinner towards the tip, so you can vary the size of the curls depending on which bit you wrap hair around. Unless you are professional or very skilled, they will probably end up random, but this is OK. The curls last a few hours in my hair, and after this they turn into looser "waves".
Overall, I am pleased with the product. I have used it on my daughter's long fine hair too, and it works well but drops out quicker because of the weight of her longer hair. I would worry about how long it would take to curl longer / thicker hair than mine, or indeed whether it will hold curls at all. Perhaps if very small sections are taken for each curl, but obviously this is time-consuming.
I like this product as I can achieve a salon-curled look at home, and it is a bit of fun. The product is good quality, and in the right hands you could probably achieve a more professional finish than mine.
Summary: A good quality wand that produces natural looking curls and is easy to use, but skill would help too
