After trying my friend Laura's Enrapture Encode Totem Hair Styler, I knew I had to had one. I have had so many problems in the past with not being able to curl my hair or the curls dropping out quickly as my hair is so fine and thin but this is the only thing that I have found that works so far. However, this hair styler has a RRP of about £75. Now, I was extremely happy that this thing curled my hair but I wasn't going to pay that price. Luckily, the price of this goes up and down on Amazon and I managed to get it for only £30, which is a really good price for it I think. Having looked again today (26/3) it has already gone back up to £40.
This product comes in a lovely black and purple box. Well, the box is metallic purple while the sleeve over it is black. Although the packaging is quite plain, with a picture of the product and its name, it is still really nice. It looks expensive, which it should do considering what the RRP is. Inside the box you get the hair styler, a heat resistant pad/ carrying case as well as a small 'how to style' booklet. Although the booklet isn't too in depth, it tells you everything you need to know to get started.
What is different about this hair styler is the way it works. In the middle of the styler, just above the handle is a set of dials. There are three different dials you can turn, each of which go from number 1 to 3. Depending on what combination you have these numbers in; it will affect what kind of curls you get in your hair. Each dial heats up differently depending on the settings you are using. I initially really loved the idea of being able to create numerous looks with just one piece of equipment because who really wants so many hair stylers lying around just for curls?
Just underneath the dials is where you turn the hair styler on. There is only a little on/ off switch and it doesn't tell you when it is completely heated up which is really my only negative about this product. However, this does have a quick heating design so it barely takes 2 minutes to be ready for you to use. Above the dials is where you actually curl your hair, is what they call a 'mini flipper.' To make it easier to curl your hair, you can put the end into this flipper in order to keep it in place and then begin to twist the styler, wrapping your hair around the totem barrels. On the other side is a metal clip, which can be used as a stand for the styler, making sure you don't burn any surfaces with it.
So, to begin what you need to do is decide which way you want your hair to fall when it is curled. I know this sounds a little strange but depending on which way you twist the totem barrels with your hair on, will affect the way it falls. Once you have decided whether or not to twist towards or away from your face, you need to stick to this otherwise you hair will be full of all kinds of crazy curls that don't look the same. Also, try to take sections of hair which are about the same width. If you want really tight looking curls, use the totem on 3-3-3 and have sections of hair about 1 or 2cm wide. If you want curls which aren't too tight nor loose, use 1-1-2, which is what I generally use. 1-1-2 will give you slight waves nearer the top of your hair with a bit of a bigger curl towards the bottom. Using 1-1-1 will give you lovely wavy hair in a bohemian style.
When curling your hair, you only need to keep it wrapped around the totem for roughly 5-10 seconds. There is a video on Youtube of a girl demonstrating how to style your hair (not with this product) and she leaves her hair wrapped up too long and it ends up falling out. Don't let that happen to you! As the totem barrel heats up quickly anyway, there is no need to keep it on for too long or wait between curling each section. It will stay hot enough the whole time while doing your hair. When releasing your hair from the flipper, all you need to do is release it and gently pull the styler downwards. This will release your hair without pulling the curls out at the same time.
For £30, this is a fantastic product but I would never have paid full price for it, even with my hair being a nightmare to curl. I highly recommend this product, especially if you are like me and are no good with styling your hair in the first place. It is easy to use and curling all of my hair only took about 15 minutes which I thought was great considering my hair is really long.
I love trying out new stylers and have gone through a series of curling wands and tongs but this is one of my favorite stylers.
When I first saw this styler I was a bit skeptical. It looked so big and I couldn't understand the concept of the three heat zones on it.But played and experimented with and and have now fallen in love with the really gorgeous stylers. Here is why....
Firstly this stylers comes with three different heating zones. So unlike most curlers where all the want heats up to the same temperature, this styler has 3 separate zones and you can change the heat of each zone to get different kinds of styles.I found that higher the heat it is,the tighter the curl I would get so if I set all three zones to 3-3-3 I would get proper ringlets,or if I some days I want loose waves I use it at 1-1-1.My favourite setting is 2-3-3 which gives me loose from top to tight at the bottom curls.
Secondly the styler is very smooth and gives alot of shine to the hair after it curls. The results are really smmoth and shiny.
Thirdly there are two cool tips. One at the end of the styler and one at the end of the handle of the tong. This helps when I am curling because I am really lazy in using heat protection glove.
There is one disadvantage to the styler though, which is that there is no display to tell you when it heats up!
But all in all its a great styler and can help to create alot of different looks at the same time.
I bought this, when my GHD straighteners, which I used for years to curl my hair started getting old and harder to use - build up of product on the ceramic plates I believe. I have very thick wavy hair, that is quite difficult to manage, and therefore I tend to keep it up, out of my face, but when it's loose, I like to have curls, especially when going out somewhere fancy.
The styler costs £79.99, however I was very lucky, and bought it from argos when it had been reduced to 30 pounds, so if you are thinking of buying it, keep an eye out for deals. When I first opened it up, I was thoroughly intruigued by the heat settings. The curler has 3 separate parts, split into 3 independent heat zones, allowing you to individually heat each section to a different temperature. I often opt for a 1-2-3 system, so i have loose curls (lower heat) at the top, and tighter curls (hotter heat) at the bottom.
The curler itself is very easy to use, you just wrap your hair around it, wait about half a minute and let go. beautiful curls, with no excess effort. If you're feeling lazier, the wand has a clip to hold the hair in place too. I found that my hair doesn't snag, and the curls tend to stay place a lot longer than they did with my GHDS. The fact that it comes with a heat mat is just good common sense from the brand. The best part though, is that you can use to to create SO many different looks just from adusting the heat settings.
Never want to be without this now.
I am by no means an expert when it comes to styling hair. I often just straighten my hair and I am done. However, after getting sick of my usual style I decided to invest my money in the Enrapture totem hair styler and I can confirm it was an excellent choice to do so!
The curlers warm up very quickly, they are ready to use in less than 20 seconds. There are several settings to suit the style of curl you want - each part of the curler warms up to a different temperature. I personally use 3-3-3 which gives the highest heat on each part of the curling wand. However, a 1-2-3 would make the curling wand cooler at the top to bottom which would result in an overall looser curl.
The curlers are very easy to use - simply grab your hair in the curling clamp and twist your hair around as you would any other hair curlers! A curl is usually created within 15 seconds or so. The curls can look very much like ringlets when finished but they drop out to lovely loose curls :)
Please be aware these curlers do heat up to a very high temperature so it is important to be extremely careful when using them. I have burnt my neck and my hand on the odd occasion due to being a bit careless whilst doing my hair!
I've never been someone who is particularly good at doing their hair, some of my friends are able to create beautiful curls by doing some tricks with their straighteners but that's never been me!
A few months ago I decided that I would really love to be able to wear my hair curly, but I'd never owned a curling wand/tool and didn't really know where to start. I stumbled across a review on the Enrapture Totem Styler and thought the idea of having different sections which could be heated to different temperatures was really novel. I was worried about the price and whether it would work for me but decided to risk it and I'm so glad I did!
Considering I've never used a curling wand before it's so easy to use, you can either use the flipper to clamp the hair or use it without but the flipper makes it a lot easier for me. You just have to make sure you don't turn the hair back on itself after its clamped otherwise it ends up with an unattractive looking kink in it!
I like to set the sections to 2-3-2, because my hair is reasonably short at the moment but have also used to on 2-1-1 for a light curl. It doesn't let you know when it's heated up (which is the only thing I could point as a negative) but it heats up very quickly.
There's a little stand which you can fold up meaning that when you're finished you don't have to put the hot wand directly on a surface, and I believe the case it comes with is heat proof too.
If you're trying to decide whether to get the Enrapture Styler I would say go for it! It's so easy to use and has fantastic results.
