GHD Gold Classic Hair Styler
Advantages: LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THEM.
Disadvantages: Cost, but 100% worth it.
I got bought these about 5/6 years ago now as a birthday present. Before GHD's I was using Babyliss £30 ones and my mum spent over an hour every morning going over and over my hair with them to try and get it straight (my hair is wavy/frizzy, not even nearly curly). These little bad boys were an absolute dream of mine so when I got them I was over the moon, rather than spending an hour in the mornings to get straight/wavyish hair that would kink as soon as I walked outside, I only spent 10-15 minutes on my hair and ended up with perfect, long lasting shiny smooth straight hair.
Now when I got bought these they were about £130.00, however I believe you can now get this model for approx. £95.00 and although it seems a lot to pay out in one go for a hair styler, these are the best of the best and will LAST! Mine are still going strong (touch wood) 5-6 years on. It is definitely worth paying extra for, for quality.
Ceramic plates - fantastic for a good finish, makes your hair look shiny and silky.
200c heat - all straighteners will damage your hair, though these are maintained at a constant temperature which is proven to be the lowest heat to effectively style hair. Also at such temperatures it means you only need to run the plates over your hair once for a good finish whereas cheaper ones you have to go over your hair many times, causing more damage.
Heat up time - Another reason why paying the extra is worth it. They heat up in 5 seconds from turning them on and have a light AND a sound to make you aware that they are now at the correct temperature.
Safety switch - After they have been on for 30 minutes the red light that turns on to let you know they are hot enough, turns yellow and they beep to let you know that the safety is on and they are turning off. If it takes you longer than half hour you simply turn them off for 5 seconds and then turn them back on again. Some people may find this a nuisance but so many people forget to turn them off and this causes fires so better to be safe than sorry in my eyes.
They straighten quickly and efficiently and the results last all day! Now not only do they straighten but due to their curved edges they can also curl your hair. The outside of the end does heat up but not enough to burn you, only enough to enhance the curling abilities.
It also comes with a booklet with different ways to style your hair and how to go about doing so. (Loose curls, wavy, tight ringlets, straight etc)
One word of warning when using ANY heated styling products is to buy a decent heat protection spray.
Summary: Take the plunge, you won't regret it.
