GHD Hair Straighteners
I've been straightening my hair at least once a week for about 5 years now, and yet it wasn't til recently that I found GHDs. I couldn't see what it could be worth paying so much more money for when I could get basic straighteners for £29.99.
First of all, I have very curly hair, and so it used to take me up to an hour just to get my hair straight, and even when it was, it felt very dry and slightly frizzy. This completely changed when I bought GHDs:
Now, I can do all my hair in less than 15 minutes if I try, and I don't even need to use a mirror. They give your hair a much softer feel afterwards, unlike most straighteners, and it's not even completely necessary to use any heat protection spray, as the GHDs don't seem to give me any breakages or split ends. Even though I can do my hair so much faster now, theres no compromise on quality - my hair will always by completely straight, and look really smooth and knot-free.
The wide-plates are really useful, especially if your hairs big like mine, as it means you can get through your hair much faster.
These are SO easy to use, all you have to do is plug them in and turn them on, and they only take about 1 minute to heat up.
Even though these were pretty costly at £110 from John Lewis, they are a really great buy, and have saved me so much time, as well as making my hair look great everyday.
After four years loyal service my previous ghds broke and I didn't hesitate to replace them. The quality of the product is evident from the packaging but when you use them they never disappoint.
I have thick, wavy, frizzy hair which is hard to tame! GHDs mean I can rough blow dry my hair (not pretty!) and then have it poker straight within 20 minutes by segmenting sections and using my straighteners.
I have tried other brands at friends' houses, and for fine straight-ish hair they might work ok. But the difference you can see with GHDs is so impressive I think it makes them good value for money.
When you think about the number of times you wash and straighten your hair in a year, these straighteners are so worth it.
I know the price tag does put some people off initially, but as I always say - buy well, and buy once. If you buy cheap you'll buy twice and it will cost you more in the long run.
I bought the GHD Gold Max Styler straighteners for my daughter for Christmas knowing they would be a good investment as her previous set with the smaller blades are still going strong after 2 years and I get keeping them for myself.
The reason for purchasing the Max Styler straighteners, was that She has long, thick, high lighted blond hair, which She leaves to dry naturally before straightening, reducing the amount of heat to the air to avoid split ends, so needs a reliable, strong set of straighteners to achieve a well groomed look.
GHD straighteners accomplish this and the advantage of the GHD Gold Max Stylers is having the wider plates, they do this in half the time it would normally have taken, transforming her hair from a thick frizz to stunning, long, shiny and smooth locks.
We are both delighted with the purchase and would thoroughly recommend purchasing GHD Gold Max Stylers.
I definitly think its worth the money. Other straightners I have used do not even begin to compare with the GHD.this is the best hair straightner I have ever used. Other straightners left my hair feeling dry damaged and frizzy not to mention the split ends and hair breakage. The GHD hair straightner leaves my hair feeling soft smooth and sleek. It doesn't dry out my hair at all but actually makes my hair feel soft and moisturised. It has adjustable heat seatings and it heats up pretty fast so I don't have to sit around waiting for it to get hot. It takes me about 15 minutes to straighten my very bushy and frizzy hair. It doesn't brake my hair like other hair straightners that I have used. I have even used it on wet hair, it actually works very well on wet hair and it doesn't damage my hair. I love my GHD hair straightner.
I got these GHD's years ago after being fed up with straighteners wrecking my hair through damage and frizz. I tried them in a salon and was amazed with the results - my hair was the smoothest and shiniest it had ever been! And the style lasted for days. So I grabbed a pair.
I had very long hair at the time but because the blades are extra wide I could style my hair in 15 minutes - compared to the 30+ minutes it took with other straighteners I had used. Plus they did not damage my hair as other straighteners had. There secret is the blades are ceramic coated - other straighteners say their blades are ceramic coated but the coating is definitely thinner or the ceramic of poorer quality as I have never found any other straighteners blades to be as good as GHD's. Also, other straighteners take minutes to heat up where as these take seconds. It even beeps to let you know it is ready! Plus they are safer than other straighteners. They contain a sensor that can detect if the straighteners are moving or not. After they have been still for 30 minutes they go into sleep mode and cool down, where as other straighteners will continually get hotter and hotter.
Give yourself in to Good Hair Days everyday! Ignore the price and go for them! They are really worth it. And you will save tonnes of money on intensive conditioners and treatments trying to repair the damage of cheaper straighteners.
I go through ghd hair straighteners ridiculously fast. After buying my last pair in April, I recently managed to suck the wire end up the hoover which stripped off the black protective coat on the wiring. Oh dear! Needing a new pair fast for my holiday, I decided to settle upon the ghd Gold Max Styler.
What does the product do?
The product has been specifically designed for those with thick or long hair. It has larger plates that the original ghd and it promises to tame the wildest curl and smooth out the longest hair. It promises to give the hair a lovely healthy shine and to leave it perfectly straight. They can also be used to create curls and waves in the hair.
About the product
The edges of the plates have been contoured to leaves behind a glossy finish and to prevent the hair from catching and pulling. The outer body of the straightener has been designed to remain even cooler to the touch and a protective plate guard is included which stops your surfaces, hands or clothes from getting burnt by the straighteners when they are not in use.
They are programmed to switch off after 30 minutes if they haven't been used so you never need to worry about the house burning down. It also adapts to the country you are using by performing at its best at a given voltage. Unlike the standard ghd, it is a three prong plug only and can't be changed into a two prong for travelling abroad.
The product is noticeably wider than the standard ghd. The outer casing it black with some smooth black dots running across it. The plates are gold and are shimmery if you look really close. On the hinge, you can see the ghd logo and there is a gold rim at the bottom. You slide the button up to turn the product on and a ghd sign lights up. The wire is really long so it should reach to any mirror and the cable turns all the way around so it will move with you as you straighten your hair.
The product is quite expensive. I bought mine for £120 from my local hair dressers but they can be found both more expensive and cheaper than that. They can be bought from most good hairdressers, a range of online websites and from some large department stores.
Using the product
The product beeps to let you know that it has been switched on and it beeps three times to let you know that it has reached its optimum temperature. Despite it being bigger than the original, it is actually really light to hold and my arm doesn't ache when I use them. The plates are really smooth and it slides over my hair without pulling, dragging or snagging it. As the plates are so big, you can take bigger sections at a time than will the normal ghds.
In between straightening, the product rests on it's back comfortably so you don't need to worry about it burning your carpet. You also need to go over each section fewer times before you get the desired results. I think that this do get much hotter than the standard ghds and are more like the originals. My hair is too hot to touch immediately after straightening a section and so I use a brush. This can't be good for the hair so I use a heat protection spray first. It leaves my hair so perfectly straight which is fantastic as my hair is usually frizzy and out of control. It also adds a healthy shine to my hair leaving it looking in a very good condition, even when used every day.
It doesn't seem to be damaging my hair or drying it out although I know the heat spray will be helping here. The very best thing about this product is that it cuts the time it takes to straighten my hair by over half. It used to take me about 30 minutes to straighten my hair and now it's closer to ten. It can also be used to create more natural and beachy looking waves than the originals by clasping the hair at the root and turning the straighteners 180 degrees before running it down the length of the hair. It gives really long lasting results and my hair can remain straight for up to 48 hours before I wash it again.
All in all, these straighteners are a massive time saver for those who have long hair. It speeds up the process dramatically leaving my frizzy hair looking sleek, shiny and straight. I would highly recommend these straighteners to anyone who has long hair and I am over the moon with my purchase.
