I brought this product as I wanted to do a messed up bed head look, on my hair and I thought this product would be a good product to use for this look.
As you open it you notice the rather pleasant smell and it looks like a typical hair putty. The fragrance is quite fruity which is a thumbs up to me as I like fruity fragrances in hair products. It has a rather thick pasty texture which is rather greasy and sticky feel in my hands, which kind of worried me as I hate greasy hair. I would only recommend using a pea size amount on mid length to long hair, as it is a rather greasy thick hair product. The fact that you only need such a small amount of the product is really great, as it means that this hair product will last you a really long time, which means great value for money.
I only used a small pea sized amount and rubbed it into my palms and applied it to my hair. I was very pleased with the results. My hair is rather thick it absorbed the product really well and gave my hair that matt dishevelled sexy bed head look. My hair did not feel neither sticky or greasy and felt really soft, which was a surprise as I thought it would actually make my hair feel rather sticky and greasy looking.
I brought this as a complete impulse buy in Boots for £5.49 and it is also available from Amazon for £5.39. It appealed to me purely because of the eye-catching bright pink tub which looked unlike any of the other products on the shelf.
--- What is it? ---
The putty is part of the MeSSED uP range by Lee Stafford which also includes two other products; light spray wax and wonder webb. As the name suggests the range is designed to provide the hold and control to maintain a sexy, messy and slightly unkempt look as if you've just got out of bed. The putty itself is meant to "give that really sexy, unkempt look for a textured, tousled effect that means your style looks effortless and you look damn hot".
It comes in a vividly bright pink 50ml plastic tub with a silver dog above white text. It has a screw lid which I like as it allows you to easily get hold of a generous amount of product and when you get to the end you are able to scrape out every last bit of product. The putty itself is plain white in colour.
--- Usage ---
To use you are meant to massage a small amount between the palms of your hands then apply it to the whole of your hair from the roots to tips and from front to back. This can be done both when the hair is dry or when wet for a more separated look. But here's the catch - this has to be done without looking in a mirror! I admit I usually cheat as it just doesn't feel right to apply a hair product without knowing what on earth I look like.
--- Does it work? ---
The thick, creamy consistency of the putty spread through my hair really nicely and it does a good job at holding hair in place for several hours. I went for quite a subtle messy look and was quite pleased with the style - it separated the hair really well and I liked the extra definition that it gave to my layers. I also liked that it gave you control over how you wanted the style to turn out. Another good point is that it smells amazing and it leaves a lovely fruity scent in your hair for several hours. However, the product let itself down in that it does make hair pretty greasy and makes the hair feel overly stiff and unclean. I couldn't wait to shampoo my hair the following morning and rinse it all out.
Overall, I like the style and the fragrance that this product gives to hair but I don't think it is worth the greasy feeling you get with it. I was expecting better results from a high-quality brand like Lee Stafford but I don't think I'll be buying this product again.
When I bought this product from Boots I wanted something to style my hair and give it definition, that I had just had cut into short layers on top which blended into longer layers towards the bottom. From the outside the product is very attractive, in a bright pink packaging with the Lee Stafford logo and directions printed on it. When you open the product you are met with a white putty which has a fruity smell which is very pleasant. When I got home i was excited to try the product. The putty had a nice texture to it however, it left my hair sticky and greasy looking. I wasn't expecting my hair to look soft as I wanted my hair to have texture and the "tasseled messed up look" however, I felt this product just made my hair look unclean which wasn't the look I was going for. I have used other products from the range, such as the sea salt spray which I was very happy with so this product did disappoint me and would recommend maybe more of a wax to customers who are looking for a product to give them the "just rolled out of bed" look. I feel this product may work better in a males hair, perhaps the layers in my hair were just a little too long but I wasn't satisfied with the end result and will keep looking around for another product to give me my desired look.
I decided to buy this product when I had my hair cut into a choppy layered style and wanted something that would give it a bit more definition and texture.
The Lee Stafford "Messed Up" range includes a spray wax, wonder webb and this putty. The range is exclusive to Boots and therefore can only be bought in their stores or on their website. I was attracted to this product when browsing in Boots because of it's distinctive, bright pink packaging. The putty comes in a round plastic jar with a screw off lid. Lee Stafford say this product will give you hair a "textured, tousled effect".
When you take the lid off you will see a white waxy putty. I instantly noticed how gorgeous this putty smelt - it is a kind of fruity smell and really is nice. To apply this product to my hair I followed the instructions on the jar and first applied a small amount of this to my hands and rubbed them together to warm it up and loosen it a little. I think worked it through my hair and fixed my hair into place. The effect was that my hair had a slightly "messy" look and my layers were certainly more defined. When using this product I only apply a small amount of it as I want a look that is not too messy or obvious. However I imagine that more or less of this product could be added to give the look you desire. This product seems to have good lasting power as any time I have applied it, my hair has stayed in the desired style all day/night.
When applying this product I was disappointed to find that it felt quite sticky both on my hands and when in my hair. It is difficult to brush out at the end of the day and the sticky feeling stays in my hair until I was it. This does put me off using it every day as I do not want to have to wash my hair daily. This does come out of your hair easily with normal shampooing however. I therefore only really use this product on special occasions.
This product costs £5.49 for a 50ml container from Boots. As it is only available in Boots the option to shop around for a bargain is not there! I think this is a little overpriced due to the fact that it leaves my hair very sticky. For this reason, even though I like how my hair looks after using this, I probably won't buy it again and will try to find a different product that does the same job for less, or without the stickiness. I give this product 3*. Thanks for reading/rating and I hope you found this review useful.
