I originally bought this for my mum because I broke her eight-year-old electric hand mixer... oops! Because she doesn't use them very often (maybe for the odd cake making session) I wanted to replace it with a fairly cheap electric hand mixer. I chose the Haden 10322 6-Speed Hand Mixer because Amazon offered to send it for a mere £9.63... bargain!
I was quite worried about using a Haden appliance, having never heard of the company before or used their products. It is really difficult to find information on them too. I am yet to locate the company's website, which is really bad in my opinion. I guess if you pay so little for a product and it goes wrong you just cut your losses! I relied heavily on other reviews before purchasing the machine.
The product dimensions are as follows: (H x L x W) 270 mm X 190 mm X 80 mm and it weighs 0.87 kg. This is a plain, standard mixer. The mixer is predominately white, with blue buttons and the company logo on the side (also blue). It is not the most attractive of mixers, but not bad for a product you won't display in your nicely designed kitchen. The mixers themselves are chrome plated and the mixer is heavy duty plastic. Both appear really durable but the quality lacks compared to more expensive mixers available. It looks cheap, which I guess you would expect from paying so little. The mixer is quite lightweight, so it is easy to handle and control. Furthermore, it is really comfy to hold and very easy to grip.
I can't fault its performance much to be honest. It does the job it is meant to. It will mix thick, stubborn ingredients such as cake mixture as well as quick mixing jobs such as pancake mixture.
The mixer comes with six different speeds. This is really unnecessary in my opinion because you will either want to mix things fast, slow or in between, therefore they could do with half the amount of speed settings. Furthermore, there is not a huge amount of difference between the three anyway! However, it is really easy to change the settings by using a flick of the switch.
For your information, this is a 125W mixer.
The mixer is dead easy to clean. The plastic material makes it easy to wipe any mess away with a damp cloth. The mixers are easy to take off because they have an 'eject' button. I find the mixers harder to clean because of the awkward shape, but I usually soak them in warm water first then use a small brush to wipe the excess. The white plastic does not stain if you are using bright or dark coloured ingredients.
As I said before, I bought the electric hand mixer (a month ago) from Amazon.co.uk and it cost me £9.63... precisely! You can buy it from other sources but it'll cost you a lot more. Check out Google price comparison for more information.
Good value for money, but you get what you pay for: 4/5
Electric hand mixers are really handy to have around the house in my opinion, it takes the effort out of manual labour. This is a handy mixer to have if you, like me, use them only occasionally. I would not recommend this product if you get a lot of use out of them. I can't seeing it lasting years upon years (they're not built like they used to, as my mum says). The mixer does its job but looks cheap if I'm honest. I give it 3 out of 5.
