I enjoy cooking and especially enjoying making anything sweet. I was pretty useless when I first started but over a couple of years I have become half decent and decided it was time to invest in and replace a few kitchen essentials that I had been handed down by my beloved mother. I of course was reluctant to splash out myself at first because I really was useless!
One of the first purchases I made was the Russell Hobbs Allure Hand Mixer. It wasn't an easy buy - I didn't really know what I was looking for in a hand mixer and there was so many on the market. On a trip to Sainsburys I noticed this specific model and was immediately attracted to it because it had £10 knocked off its RRP of £40 on a promotion and so I bought it. A bit of an impulse buy but I had had the intention if buying one and had become a bit obsessed for a good few weeks!
I was pretty impressed with the design of the hand mixer, and for regular readers of my reviews, you will know that I like my electrical items to look stylish! It has a polished stainless steel body with a blue backlit LCD screen with a digital timer. I quite liked this extra as the hand mixer that I had been given from my mum didn't have any kind of timer on it and so when something in a cookbook told me to blend for 2 minutes I would have to use a stopwatch on my phone!
The one little niggle for me, is the weight of the mixer. The body is quite bulky and as such the weight is also a little heavier than I would like. Over the weeks leading up to buying this I had become pretty obsessive with mixers and often nipped into an electrical store in search of 'THE mixer' so I held quite a few on displays and this was definitely heavier than the majority. I will say that the switches are positioned just right that you can easily use the switches without changing hands, but there have been occasions when i have accidentally changed the speed setting as it is such a sensitive button. There are 6 different speeds which are really handy too.
The removable attachments include hooks for mixing dough which I found really easy to use, and beaters for cake batter. The attachments are dishwasher safe which is a god send! I have had all sorts stuck in the mixers, biscotti, gooey cream, cake mix... Saves me licking it clean anyway!
Storing the mixer is easy too as it is able to stand upright in a cupboard or drawer due to its wide base. Cable length is 127cm so a fair length for what you will use it for.
Comes with a 2 year manufacturer's guarantee. Currently for sale for between £35 and £42.
