Asda Original Antibacterial Handwash
Advantages: Lathers well, and you can smell your hands are clean.
Disadvantages: Not easy to get the kids to remember to wash there hands in the first place!
If you are familiar with any of my previous reviews, you will be aware that my two young children have both suffered at one time or another with threadworms.
One of the vital, and probably the most important pieces of advice that was given to me by the chemist was the simple rule of hand washing, easy to remember you may think, not for a four year old!
I started off by buying the slightly more expensive hand washes, usually geared towards the child themselves, this neither discouraged or encouraged better hand washing practises, so I decided to buy the bog standard type that I would personally use.
The hand wash I will now review is -"Asda original hand wash - anti bacterial"
This particular hand wash comes in an opaque square bottle with a pump action applicator. Through the bottle the bright blue hand wash is visible and it is filled right to the brim, not like some of the more expensive brands that only give you half a bottle to start off with!
This is one of the cheaper branded items available from Asda, so the bottle is bog standard with no frills added!
To use simply moisten hands first (with warm water preferably, not cold like my son thinks!), pump the applicator once for the desired amount, rub your hands together to remove any visible debris from your hands and also those nasty unseen germs, then once satisfied that your hands are clean, rinse well with water (again warm!).
As someone who has worked within a sterile unit at my local hospital I have always been aware that the most important part of hand washing is not technique but the actually drying. More germs are removed with this part than anything else, as if the hands are left at all moist germs will start breeding again automatically, the little buggars like the moist conditions!
The hand wash itself is thick and doesn't slide straight off wet hands when applied, though it won't stay there indefinitely.
The product lathers really well and quickly once you start rubbing your hands together. Once the lather has been rinsed off and your hands dried your hands feel cleansed, clean and quite soft, not bad for a cheapy product!
The smell again is one of the clinchers, the smell is very distinct and fresh smelling, very like the so called "ocean" scented shower gels on the market, very unisex and screams clean to you once used, the scent lingers on the skin for a little while after use, perfect when trying to determine whether or not your child has actually washed their hands in the first place!
The price again was high on the list when buying, the more child orientated products I have previously purchased have cost me around the £2.00 mark, not bad if it encourages them to wash their hands....which it didn't, so for such a good hand wash I was more than surprised to be only paying around the 60p mark, very good value when you consider that this contains 500ml of liquid and can last a good couple of weeks.
