Asda Zingy Lemon Hand Wash
Advantages: Cleans well. Is cheap.
Disadvantages: Not very softening for skin. Lemon scent is too sharp.
This is a hand wash I bought to use in my kitchen as I do quite a lot of gardening work and then come indoors and wash my hands in the kitchen sink. I quite often purchase the cheapest hand washes I can get simply because they can be quite costly and when shopping recently found this Asda's 'Essentials' Zingy Lemon hand wash which I thought would do nicely.
This is a large bottle of hand wash, about double the size of many other hand washes available. It's a 500ml sized bottle and the semi-opaque plastic bottle is fully recyclable. The bottle is designed like most hand washes with a pump action button on the top. The button is rather large and flat so it's easy to press down with either fingertips or your palm. You can also fully unscrew the top and the plastic tube which is attached. I find this particularly useful when you get to the end of the bottle and the liquid isn't coming out as easily - you can just add a little bit of water and get the most out of those soapy remnants.
A label on the back of the bottle provides information including full ingredients and contact information for the Asda brand. The product is marked as being suitable for vegetarians and Asda state they are against animal testing and helps fund research into alternatives. Each Asda product is also always marked with their guarantee that if you aren't "100% happy" then you can claim a refund. Asda state this hand wash is suitable for the whole family and contains "added moisturisers" which will help leave hands "feeling clean and soft".
The liquid is a sunshine yellow colour which is pleasing to the eye. I therefore don't mind having this out on display and keeping it out by the sink. The pump action button doesn't require much effort and it's easy to control how much liquid you pump out by tempering your efforts.
The liquid is a rather watery gel which is not as dense as a shampoo or dish washing agent. It can be quite runny so I suggest applying to hands first rather than wetting hands and then applying as otherwise the gel can slide off your hands.
The gel feels cool and refreshing as I use it and it feels like it gives a good, thorough clean. Whatever I've had on my hands the hand wash has been able to cope with cleaning! The gel has a sharp lemon scent which is fresh and bright but which is slightly reminiscent of household cleaning products. The fragrance needs to be just slightly sweeter and more sugary to overcome this.
When I've dried my hands they feel clean and smell good. The moisturising qualities of the hand wash certainly aren't as good as other hand washes I've used recently, such as the Pears hand wash. I'd say this Asda Essentials Zingy Lemon is about average in leaving hands soft and your skin looking healthy. A more intense skin conditioning quality would improve the product.
Overall this is a decent hand wash if all you need is something quite basic. The only thing that encourages me to buy alternative and more expensive hand washes is the fact that other products can leave my skin softer and smoother than this Asda Essentials product can. This product cleans really well though and it is definitely value for money since you get double the amount for half the price of the average bigger brand named hand wash products (this cost me about 80p). I will almost certainly buy this again but it's probably a product that I'd not purchase during the colder winter months when my skin is a little drier.
Summary: Cleans well
