The Body Shop Satusma Hand Cleanse Gel
Advantages: Smells lovely
I just love The Body Shop and am often visiting their store or website spending too much money on their products. Recently I saw a box set of different Body Shop items at a discounted price and just couldn't resist buying it as it contained a few products I had been wanting to try for ages, one of which was the Satsuma Hand Cleanse Gel, which I am reviewing today.
The product comes in a 60ml clear plastic bottle, the bottle is quite small making it ideal for travel or popping in a handbag. There is a white label around the bottle which shows the brand logo and the name of the product along with a hand and arm print with pictures of juicy satsumas within it. Four pictures at the bottom of the label give examples of when this product would be particularly useful, these include whilst travelling, before eating, after handling animals or just when out and about with the family. The back of the label gives some general information including warnings such as "Avoid contact with eyes" and "Flammable" , it is also advised to keep the bottle away from young children. Directions for use suggest applying a small amount to hands and allowing to dry. Ingredients and the use by date of 12 months are also given. All this information is also given in various different languages. The flip top lid is also clear, it is strong and I have not experienced the product leaking. The gel is dispensed by turning the bottle upside down and giving the plastic a little squeeze. The gel is clear and of a sticky thick consistency. The smell is absolutely divine and I love it, it is a strong fruity smell. Some hand gels have a strong chemical or alcohol smell, but this one actually smells quite natural. The product dries quickly and leaves the hands feeling clean with no sticky after residue. Once dried the strong smell fades a bit and we are left with a nice fresh orangy scent.
The label states that this hand gel does not contain Triclosan, if I am completely honest I had no idea what this was when I bought the product. A quick search online shows that Triclosan is a synthetic chemical used for its anti bacterial qualities. Although Tricosan is used in a wide variety of consumer products many believe it is not altogether safe to use, although this is yet to be proven. So, its no shock that The Body Shop do not add Triclosan to this product. It is worth noting though that nowhere on the bottle does it suggest that the hand gel has any antibacterial qualities, and so I can only assume this is to be used for simply cleansing the hands rather than killing any germs or bacteria.
As with all Body Shop products this has not been tested on animals.
I have been using various hand sanitisers for many years and usually have a bottle in my handbag and in the car. I find them very useful and convenient, especially with having two small children. My usual hand sanitiser costs 19p whilst The Body Shop gel is priced at £2.50, so its fair to say it is expensive. That being said The Body Shop gel is clearly a more luxury quality gel and its fragrance, quality and brand is what gives it its expensive price tag.
After using The Body Shops Satsuma Hand Cleansing Gel not only do my hands smell yummy but they do also feel clean and smooth. My yougest daughter often gets sticky hands and the gel has cleaned her hands well and with no fuss. I have had no adverse reactions whilst using this products, nor do I feel it dries out my skin like some other gels have done in the past.
I really do like this product but I feel its a little expensive to replace my current hand sanitiser. I would probably buy it again, especially if was on offer. I do love the smell and I am interested in trying the other fragrances that are available including Strawberry, Coconut, Lemon, Mango and Pink Grapefruit, as they all sound divine. I would recommend giving this product a try.
The Body Shop Satsuma Hand Cleanse Gel (60ml) is priced at £2.50, it is available in most stores and online. If ordering from their website delivery charges apply from around £2.99 for standard delivery.
Summary: I would recommend giving this product a go.
