Carex Active Fresh Handwash
Advantages: Refreshing and zesty aroma and effective at cleansing the hands
Disadvantages: A little drying to my skin
The appearance of the packaging is far more appealing than it was several years ago due to its curved edges as opposed to the chunky bottle that the brand previously used. We are provided with 250 ml of hand wash, which is contained within a sturdy transparent plastic container enabling the vivid orange coloured contents to be clearly visible. My reason for making this particular purchase was due to the bacteria killing properties where we are informed that 99.9% are eradicated although obviously this is a claim that I am unable to evidence. In addition, it was the claim of "reduces odours in one wash" that was another deciding factor, particularly as I cannot bear the smell of food lingering on my skin following preparation.
It was also the fragrance that tempted me with its inclusion of mandarin and bergamot; both of which I felt were well suited for use in the kitchen. The hand wash is easily dispensed via a push down mechanism with the aperture being of a sufficient size to deliver enough for one use. It offers a good consistency, which I would describe as slightly thicker than some of the other brands I've used and whilst I was aware of the aroma I was well impressed with its authenticity with it being highly refreshing and zesty. I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised at its strength, as my previous experience with Carex products has mainly been positive, but the fragrances are not always up to scratch.
As I would have expected from a product belonging to Cussons, the hand wash created a good lather when being introduced to water and enabled me to quickly remove any grease and grime from my skin. It was easily rinsed away without leaving any stickiness or lingering film on the surface of my skin and I would totally agree with the claim of the reduction of odours, as the pong of the onions that I had been chopping totally vanished. The only downside I experience with the majority of Carex hand washes is that they can be a little drying, so it was necessary to apply hand cream directly after washing my hands. This is a little disappointing, particularly as the reverse of the bottle advises us that the product contains added moisturisers. However, I cannot speak of any adverse affects such as stinging, which can sometimes be the case for me when using zesty skin products.
I favoured the fact that the uplifting aroma of mandarin and bergamot lingered on my skin after using although it was a little pointless in my case, as the scent was soon masked with my hand cream. As with the majority of hand washes that I have used, the dispensing unit does not reach to the bases of the bottle, so the last few drops need to be removed by unscrewing the unit and giving the bottle a good bang on its underside. I can see me making further purchases of this product in the future, particularly as it is so affordable at just 90p per bottle, which is a good price when making a comparison with other brands.
As I suffered slight dryness when using, I feel a four star rating to be appropriate.
I hope you found my review useful and thanks for reading.
Summary: An effective hand wash although a little drying
