Carex Chocolate Orange Hand Wash
Advantages: Smells lovely, convenient
Disadvantages: None that I can think of
I get very excited by a bargain of any kind so was very excited to see, slightly in the distance, a shelf of Carex handwashes at only 90p in my local Tesco's (and was slightly disappointed by the fact that Tesco hadn't yet started stocking the Valentines Day Krispy Kremes so was looking to raise my spirits)
It was only when I was closer that I couldn't quite believe my eyes, the bottle of handwash appeared to say it was Chocolate Orange handwash, I even had this confirmed by my partner bemused as I was to find this in the midst of all the Aloe Vera and Lemon Fresh varieties. And not only Chocolate Orange but Strawberry Laces as well, however that's a review for another time!
I am presuming that this is to try and encourage children to wash their hands but being honest it was only adults that I saw sniffing, grinning and buying this product. I did unscrew the top and have a little sniff before I chucked in the trolley, only because I have sometimes got 'chocolate' smelling stuff home before to find its nothing of the kinds and only smells of nasty chemicals. But this was a bit like a revelatory moment; it did indeed smell just like Terry's Chocolate Orange, but only a small amount of smell.
I should also mention that the liquid inside is also bright orange which may have confused a few people when they got home and were expecting a lovely citrus smell!
Of course I couldn't resist and did indeed end up taking two home, a bargain at 90p whatever the smell!
It duly got plonked on the kitchen windowsill and I do end up washing my hands quite a few times during the day. It's at this point that you really notice the smell, squirt some on to your hands and it's like someone exploded a Terrys Chocolate Orange in front of your nose! Of course there may be those who think it's overly powerful but for the rest of us it's perfect. And there's no chemical after-smell which I've noticed can appear quite unpleasantly with products like this. And because its a pump container it wont end up everywhere.
Add some nice warm water and it thoroughly lathers up, I do like a good lather, not because I believe the more bubbles you have the effective it is but because you can see that you've covered your hands completely, in between all the fingers, etc. Just wash it off and you'll have the loveliest chocolate orange smelling hands which lasts a reasonable length of time. Perhaps I should try that trick whereby if you fancy chocolate you take a sniff of a synthetic chocolate product and its supposed to get rid of the craving, or maybe not because that means eating no more chocolate!
Anyway, Carex claims it kills 99.9% of germs within seconds, I really can't doubt this as I have just no way of knowing! I'll trust them though.
It also says it has added moisturisers in it, now that I'm not too sure of, my hands certainly don't feel that moisturised but that maybe because of lots of plate washing or handling wet laundry. I also only feel the need to use one pump of it instead of two which might not help. It certainly doesn't dry my hands out though, its not like I feel the need to put extra handcream on, I just don't feel they are extra-moisturised.
So I am a fan, I think it does the job and it does the job well but really, with that smell, it's just a novelty!
