Cath Kidston Blossom Hand Cream
Advantages: smells nice, moisturising, pretty tube
Disadvantages: expensive, slow to sink in
I got a tube of this Cath Kidston blossom hand cream in a gift set with some matching products for my birthday. Although I have a few Cath Kidston bits dotted around my house, I had never really had any urge to try the beauty products before. In my opinion Cath Kidston makes pretty homeware and fabrics, but as they don't specialise in beauty products, I felt that I would probably be paying for the name more than anything with this product. Still, I was grateful to be given the opportunity to try it.
The hand cream comes in a silver tube. At first glance it looked metal like my L'Occitane favourite, but it's actually silver coloured plastic. The lid is a powder blue shade and the label is very pretty as you'd expect from a Cath Kidston product, adorned with pretty little clusters of flowers.
The official description of the cream is as follows: 'A moisturising hand cream, rich in shea butter. An ideal size to keep in your handbag or take on holidays and weekends away.' The size, if you are wondering is 75ml.
The cream itself is white in colour and reasonably thick. I tend not to be overly keen on flowery scented products, so I did wonder how much I would like the smell of this, but I actually think it's really nice. I'm not that great at distinguishing one floral scent from another, but I think I can smell rose in this and possibly geranium. The fragrance is soft and quite old fashioned smelling - in a vintage way, rather than a musty way! In fact, the more I think about it, the more I think that this scent epitomises the Kidston brand - vintage, pretty and feminine.
I find that the cream takes a little while to sink in, which is slightly irritating for a hand cream. I've started applying it before bed every night, as it leaves my hands feeling a little bit tacky for up to five minutes after application.
When I wake up in the morning, my hands feel lovely and soft and importantly for me, hydrated. I have dry skin and it gets especially bad on my hands, so the fact the moisturising effects are good enough to last overnight is great for me. Although I received a separate cuticle cream in the same gift set, I often just apply this hand cream to my cuticles rather than use two products. I find that this leaves my cuticles looking neat and hydrated, rather than dry and ragged as they normally are!
The hand cream costs £8 for a 75ml tube, so it is rather pricey. I received mine about two months ago and it seems to be lasting me well so far. It can be bought directly from the Cath Kidston website or Cath Kidston stores and it's also available on Amazon.
On the whole I have been pleasantly surprised by this hand cream. I love the fragrance - and that's speaking as someone who doesn't really like flowery scents - and it's very moisturising and softening. On the downside it is a little pricey and it takes a while to sink in, which isn't ideal, but I would still recommend it.
Summary: pleasantly surprised
